Hotel Iaccarino

We returned on Friday after having a FAB holiday here. The only down sides were being so fair out of Sorrento(but the hotel has a shuttle bus), having to pay for wireless(there's a wireless bar upstairs past the garage) and having to pay for the aircon, which we resorted in doing. We booked late so both rooms were at the back of the hotel but we weren't really that bothered as we aren't spending the day in there!

The staff are lovely, especially Nino in the dining room! They are all really welcoming and can never do enough for you. As the drinks are very expensive at the hotel before and sometimes after dinner we would walk up to orlandos which if you get onto the main road at the top you can't miss. They do cocktails and other bits which are all reasonably priced!

The hotel shuttle bus goes down to Sorrento on set times, we used the public bus once, then used the shuttle bus! We had two really bad experiences at the bus station where all the bus drivers were shouting at people then wouldn't tell anyone which bus they need, so it was nice to get on and off the shuttle bus with no fuss!!

I'm nearly 18 and I really enjoyed lying round the pool and just going for a dip in such a lovely pool!!

This was our last family holiday together, but I know my parents are returning when it is cooler as it was just too hot to go and look at anything, we had a really good holiday.

We had booked two rooms - a double for my wife and I with a sea view and a single for our 15 year old daughter.
The view from the double room was fantastic looking over Sorrento and the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius in the background. Although as we were on the first floor this view was a little obscured on one side by an outbuilding so I would advise going for floors 2 or higher (avoid rooms 1, 2 & 3). The bathroom was large and airy but spoilt by a tiny shower you could hardly turn around in - we saw showers in other rooms that were bigger, so again choose carefully and ask to change if you are not happy.
The single room was very small and the view was toward the back of the hotel with no view but nearby buildings.
What we missed about the rooms however was the lack of air conditioning. Whilst Sant Agata is quite high up and cooler than Sorrento, it was still too hot at night to sleep with the windows closed - thus leading to sleepless nights listening to constant dog barking and early morning cockerels.
The food was reasonably good quality - but the selection was limited to 3 options per night. On two nights at least 2 of our party didn't like the selections so we ate out instead. However the staff did make efforts to cook basic food for children in the hotel who were not taken by the rich food choices (pasta, pizza, etc).
The hotel was generally quite clean and the staff were friendly and helpful, however like much of Italy, the drinks were very expensive and most nights we chose to forgo the view from the terrace to sit in a local bar and pay around half the hotel prices for drinks.

All in all a number of niggles combined with a £200+ bar bill when we left this hotel prevented us enjoying the stunning location as much as we would have liked and the lack of aircon and outside noise meant we left after a week quite tired and looking forward to home comforts.
Not what we were expecting from a 4 star hotel at the price we paid.

Room Tip: Go high with a sea view

We had a wonderful stay at hotel Jiaccarino. There are so many pluses, I will list them:
1. The SITA bus from Amalfi to Sorrento stops right at the hotel if you tell the driver beforehand.
2. The staff, reception, maître d' and waiters were all friendly and helpful, going out of their way in several instances to smooth our stay. 3. The view, the view, the view was inspiring and restful. I booked late, and was put on a waiting list for a room with a view and a balcony. The room was waiting for us when we checked in. The balcony is small, but large enough for a table and two chairs. It overlooks the beautiful pool, but is dominated by the view of Vesuvius across the Bay of Naples.
4. The pool was delicious, and a lovely way to relax after the trip from Amalfi. There were more than enough lounges, umbrellas, and towels at the pool.
5. The rear entrance of the hotel is about 100 m from the pleasant town of S. Agata. The part of the town near the hotel was a typical pleasant Italian village. Further along it became a busy city which we avoided. It had nice restaurants where we had dinner.
6. The buffet breakfast was sumptuous, with everything imaginable in an elegant room with friendly and helpful service. 7. Everything about our stay and the hotel is definitely four-star. We only regretted having to leave. As a final gesture, the receptionist called our transfer service to coordinate our pickup. We said our goodbyes as old friends, with arrivederci in hopes we would get back someday.

It was a nuisance that they charge for Wi-Fi, but there is an inexpensive Internet shop just as you reach the town, walking from the hotel.

Room Tip: After booking contact the hotel to get a good room with a balcony and the view. It is well worth th...

The Jaccarino is a typical Italian Hotel. The floors are tiled and the walls are covered in portraits of the Jaccarino family. The hotel is very comfy, we had a sea view with balcony double room. The views down to Sorrento and the bay were unbeatable.

The room was clean and tidy and bigger than expected. Complete with plenty of wardrobe space, a large chest of drawers, dressing table and SKY TV. The En-suite had plenty of space, a good powerful shower and amenities replenished every day.

There are plenty of sun loungers around the pool and sun umbrellas to go with them. The bar service (you can only eat or drink hotel bought goods around the pool) is very reasonably priced and very high quality. The bar / terrace is well presented and offers an extensive range of drinks. Try the Mojitos, one of the best I have ever had!

Dinner in the restaurant was always fun. Neno, the head waiter, is exactly what you want in a restaurant. He is very friendly, well mannered and rather funny too. Definitely the star employee at the hotel. His team of Marko, Ciro, Luigi and co speak perfect English and go out of their way to make you comfortable. The menu changed on a daily basis and there was a real variation in the food, all of which was very well prepared and very tasty.

Saint Agata, which is through the back gate and up the alleyway ( min walk max), is a lovely wee town. It has a couple of bars, restaurants and small supermarkets so ideal for a drink after dinner or supplies.

Sorrento is about 7km away so not ideally placed to walk in and back. However the hotel provides a free bus transfer at various points during the day which only takes 10-15 mins. Plus the local transport is excellent.

All in all a really really nice hotel in a really really nice part of the world. We will definitely be back there.

Room Tip: Room 3. Uninterupted views over Sorrento and the bay. On the first floor so only one flight of stair...

We stayed here for our first time in Italy and as far as the location of the hotel is concerned we were not disappointed. The views from our Balcony were just stunning - we paid extra for this view - second floor with our own balcony and glad we did. Some of the rooms here are tucked away and have views of back alley ways. If you want a great view and a balcony to sit out on, the second floor is a must, Our room (number 56) had a very spacious bathroom with a full size bath, shower and hand held shower, loo and bidet. It looked like it had been recently refurbished - we can recommend this one. The area is just out of this world - the local bus that stops outside your hotel is €7.60 for a 24 hour ticket that you can use anywhere on the Sita buses and will get you to Amalfi, Positano and beyond. You need to get the ticket from the Tabac which is in the little village of S Agata. They run every half hour and a timetable is given to you by the Receptionist when you arrive. If you want to go on the red open top sightseeing buses to Ravello you can get a ticket from the Tourist Office at Amalfi port as you can tickets to Capri. Ravello is worth a visit, very picturesque square. We stayed half board at this hotel and wished we had not. The dinner food quality was just poor and certainly not a four star standard. there was Pork on the menu every night which got to be a joke with the guests when we were there. The service was hit and miss - some days was quick - too quick and some days we waited for over half hour for our starter which was only a bowl of soup - not great. The breakfast is no more than adequate - tinned fruit is served which I find bazaar as we are surrounded with an abundance of fresh fruit in July! In short the food was a let down and smacks of being a cheap offering. We ate out every lunchtime in various local towns which was just great - local restaurant Mimi's which is five mins walk from the hotel by the lane is recommended - their local food is just fab. The Hotel staff don't like you eating or drinking your own stuff here - even a sip out of a bottle of water is frowned upon. One morning they left quite a rude note on everyone's sun loungers to tell them of this. As for the sun loungers - the pool is quite small and there is not enough space for everyone around the pool - whilst we were there were four sun beds that were - towelled - by 7.40 each morning - by British guests, even though there are notices around the pool to state that this is not allowed. We can recommend this hotel is you want to use it as a base. - book B&B only and it is not for those who want a quiet sit round the pool all day.

Room Tip: Number 56 is great - there are quite a lot of steps too so if you have difficulty in walking then as...

We stayed at this hotel because we were part of a wedding. When we first got there the views from the terrace takes your breath away but when we saw our room, that's another story.
You could kill yourself trying to get out of the shower. You have to maneuver between the toilet and the sink. The shower leaked onto the bathroom floor which made it quite slippery. My mom's room overlooked the alley and had no air conditioning. Not a good idea for the summer months.
The dining room staff were very attentive and cheery.

It only makes sense with the balcony seaview room. Actually, not. It's a very good hotel indeed: decent breakfast, large rooms and living area. Superb bar and terrace view of Vesuvius and Naples.
And don't feel bad about not being in touristy Sorrento centre...you have a much more familiar experience 100m on the hotel's backyard (St Agatha city centre). Try the ristoranti 4 Venti, they have a pizza class on Mondays and Thrusdays mornings. And don't forget a glass of vino rosso on the sunset: unforgettable.

Room Tip: Definetly go for the seaview balcony...and don't need to thank me!!!
