My husband and I were fortunate enough to return to Grand Hotel Hermitage again this year. It was lovely to see all the familiar faces of the staff who are very professional but a bit of fun also. The hotel is clean, comfortable and well maintained. No need to pack a beach towel as the hotel provide towels for use by the pool. Lunch is served daily by the pool. The views are some of the best in Sorrento over the Bay of Naples. The village of Sant'Agata is about 10 mins walk via a pathway, no traffic safe and pretty. The village has all you need with some lovely restaurants and shops. You get a real since of Italy away from the main tourist spot of Sorrento Town. Having said that, you must visit Sorrento and the hotel provides a bus to/from but you must book it early in the morning to avoid disappointment. We also booked a trip to Capri with the hotel rather than through Sorrento and was excellent value and showed us the other side of the Amalfi Coast. Love everything about Grand Hotel Hermitage.

Room Tip: High floor with view of Bay of Naples

The picture above was what we saw when the door to our room was opened. We were there a week in July and ate almost every night in the hotel. Food is good and the wine is so inexpensive it is almost free! How about 8Euros for a local falanghia??? Great staff, could not do enough for us. Nice rooms air conditioning not needed at night. Breakfast on the terrace every day. Up in the hills over looking the bay. Public bus stop across the street, most tours will pick you up at the hotel.
Get a water view, 4th or 5th floor.
most mellow "guard dog" ever- Rocky.
Great place!!!

Room Tip: Reserve the winter before for the best rates for in season. The owner thinks September is the best time to go.

We went to the Hermitage in 2002 and had a wonderful holiday, when we had the chance to return in June 2013 it was with some trepidation about returning to a place that held some wonderful memories.
We need not have worried at all, while some improvements has been made in that time it still has that wonderful Italian family feel, we again had a fantastic holiday, loverly food wonderful views.
Hotel bus in to sorrento is really useful but needs to be booked early.
Hoping to return next year to this super hotel that will capture your heart.

We made a fantastic choice when we chose to stay at Villa Romita (VR), the hidden gem up the path from the Grand Hotel Hermitage (GHH). The GHH is located approx 5km up the winding road from Sorrento, adjacent the village Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi, which as the name states sits on the ridge of the 'two gulfs" - Sorrento Bay to the North, Amalfi Coast to the South. The Villa Romita is a more private, secluded bedroom, lounge and sun terrace complex, part of the GHH but with the feel of being separate and more part of the village of Sant'Agata.
The GHH has a very welcoming, friendly, family feel about it. Every member of the staff was approachable, attentive and friendly. English speaking was excellent and quirky ! This is not a mainstream holiday destination hotel. It is a quiet and relaxing base from which to venture to see the beauty of the wider area. The pool is small and the sun loungers limited but that feels right as this is not a hotel to sit round the pool all day. There is so much more to the area and the GHH and VR is not your typical mainstream hotel but make you feel part of the local community. There is a complimentary mini-bus to Sorrento and back throughout the day and evening but we found that Sorrento was of limited appeal beyond a few hours on the odd day.

We only ate at the hotel for one evening meal which was of excellent quality, eaten al-fresco by the pool, good choice, very good salad buffet selection and good value (20E). However, we chose to sample the local hospitality and so tried a different restaurant in Sant'Agata each evening. Sant'Agata is a proper working village and during the day you can sample the life with the locals going about their day's business. There is a good selection of eateries, all excellent with local "slow food' and prices to suit all budgets. The village is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Watch out also for the smoking cats !

I would thoroughly recommend Grand Hotel Hermitage for your first stay in the area. We will return to GHH when we return to return to the area.

Room Tip: Choose the Villa Romita. Go to Sant'Agata. Go to David's in Sorrento for the Gelato making experience. Go to the Port and book the Mini Cruise for 27E rather than booking the 40E one that is in the excursions booklet. The ship may be older, the cruise to Amalfi may take longer but the crew are local, off-beat and sing opera over the tannoy. The experience is more Italian than the 'corporate' jet cruise. Swimming off Capri is a must do activity. Vesuvius and Pompeii are a life affirming experience.

We had a very enjoyable weeks stay at this charming hotel. We found the staff to be extremely friendly and attentive with nothing being too much trouble. The hotel was situated 5 minutes walk away from Santa Agata, a quaint and sedate town with good amenities. We found the hotel run shuttle service to Sorrento to be very convenient as Taxi prices are excessive. I would definitely return to both Sorrento and this hotel.
