“excellent staff made very welcome”
Reviewed July 8, 2008

my partner booked a wekend break in june for his birthday. After booking i noticed it said some rooms had jacussi baths and to enquire when booking. I e-mailed the hotel to quiery if our room had one and i was e-mailed back to say they had upgraded us free of charge to the Bridal Suite as it was the only available room on that weekend with one.
We really couldnt fault this hotel in fact im in the process of trying to get a similar weekend break at his hotel as i write.
The staff are a credit to the hotel , very friendly and i cant wait to go back

We stayed at Castle Arch Hotel for our 1st 2 nights in Ireland, of our 17 day trip.We chose that location as not far from Dublin, and near Newgrange and Hill of Tara, which we were able to visit while there. The hotel was clean, great quiet room, great hot breakfast, included in room price, served to order. Nice pub and resturant for other times. Able to walk to the city center and Trim Castle, very reasonable price found online.helpful, friendly staff.

  • Liked — location, price,great breakfast
  • Disliked — bad view from room, could have been moved but liked the quiet on backside of hotel

We booked a double room ensuite, were promised a bath, instead got a shower complete with spider and hairs of previous occupants. Also the soap dispenser being the only washing item avaliable was empty, I pointed this out and was promised it would be filled, it wasn't. The UHT milk in the room was gone off. We were staying in the gate lodge which was outside the hotel, were woken at 6:30 am by loud repeated knocking, which was a bit frightening turned out to be a wake up call for a completely different room. The breakfast was good, the second morning I had to physically knock on the kitchen door in order to get coffee and toast. Also be advised that the hotel has a nightclub which releases rather noisy drunk people post 2am. Wouldn't stay there again.

  • Liked — The room was warm and the food was good
  • Disliked — The standard of service and lack of consideration.

i completely disagree with the reviews this hotel has got. i stayed there for 3 Night with My Boyfriend and i couldn't of had a better time at this hotel. the staff were extremely nice and i felt really welcome from the moment i stepped inside. we were in the hotel suite for the duration of our stay, and it was devine the room equipped with a State of the art Flatscreen tv and a jaccuzzi in the bathroom. the food was also great served in a Homely bistro style setting. i don't know where the other reviewers stayed but i find it very hard to believe it was here. i would also like to comppliment all the staff in all areas of this hotel as we were always treated with Great Manners and respect. would go back again in a flash

Could't agreed more with previous review. Everything about the hotel was poor from food to room standard and bar service(or lack of it!)
Staff were friendly but didnt seem go out of there way to help anyone. Also nearly overcharged for room and dinner was one of the worst I've ever paid for.
Only good points were the cooked breakfast and the location.

It all went wrong from the word go. First our keys were not coded correctly and it all went down hill from there. We had booked the room for 3 people but when we finally got into the room it only had one double bed. We eventually got another room but it stank of smoke and was cold. When we looked into the bathroom it was obvious it was to cater for disabled people as it did not have a bath ( we had a child with us ) and the shower was too low for us to use. But, it was clean so we decided to keep it, although the lack of towels made it obvious they had not prepared the room even though we had booked it 2 weeks in advance. We were told to have our meal in the bar which looked more like a canteen. We had ordered lasagne and chips but they forgot the chips and by the time we got then we had finished our food and the chips came out roasting hot and raw in the middle. That night I asked for a drink at the bar and was left standing with no explanation for 20minutes while they set up the breakfast tables. One of the managers even watched me standing there and did not do anything to correct the situation. The next night they poured our drinks before telling us they had no ice. and on the final day they got the bill wrong and that had to be sorted out. The whole experience was so bad it was funny, they should have it as a themed hotel and base it on faulty towers. No apology or explanation was given for any of the disasters. We were treated more like an inconvinience than paying guests. The hotel is very nice and renovated very well but lacked managerial control and leadership, as although there were plenty of staff they were not guided to treat the customers with the respect they deserve.
