Our family of four (2 adults and 2 children under age of 10) had a wonderful holiday in August in Trim. The Trim Castle Hotel was a perfect location for us to explore the Trim area. The hotel itself was lovely. Quiet at night with a fabulous view of Trim Castle on the roof top! The bedroom accommodated four of us perfectly, but could do with some bathroom updates (and a little more attention to cleaning detail). We had a very early morning flight out of Dublin so we asked the front desk the day before if we could have breakfast and they provided an outstanding one for us! We came down to a quiet lobby were in the corner was the most beautiful continental breakfast set for the four of us - 5 star! More than we could eat! Pat the night manager was top notch. He brought us coffee and we had a lovely chat with him. A great send off from a well run hotel. Thank you for making our stay in Trim enjoyable.

Room Tip: Inform the reservation person that you have a family and would like 2 queen/king beds.

Trim's a good centre for exploring County Meath, the Royal County, and the Trim Castle is a comfortable stop along the way. Facing Trim Castle, the setting for Braveheart some years ago, the hotel provides good service, comfortable rooms and a hospitable dining area at the front of the hotel. Trim is a quiet town, with enjoyable walks along the river and past the castle, these easily accessed from the hotel.

We were at a wedding here on Friday and we really had a good time. The staff were all lovely and the food was lovely both dinner and breakfast. We would recommend this hotel and we would definitely stay again.

Lovely rooms, nice view of the castle, good location, very friendly and welcoming staff.
I got held up visiting family and missed the restaurant hours so I could only get room service, after 10pm they only offer sandwiches so I asked about nearby places to eat as I wanted got food, they said there is a Chinese nearby if you want to order that and have it in your room? I was delighted I did not fancy going back out again, the Chinese got sent to reception I went down and got it, and asked if I could borrow a fork from the hotel, they brought up plates knives forks big jug of iced water and two glasses and some more tea code and sugar! I felt like a proper VIP, Marian Carey style, whatever I wanted they went over and above their duty to make it easy and a 'no bother' attitude, that's all I heard them say.... :)
Not to mention they had everything you need not just an iron, kettle and a hair dryer but a mini seeing kit a mini shoe shine kit a shower cap, just had thought of everything. Tea coffee sugar then also hot chocolate & biscuits as well. Thy offer a great service and the restaurant was lovely too, can't recommend highly enough, made me late for the plane as I really didn't want to leave this place.

The location of this hotel is fantastic its right across the street from trim castle which is quite breathtaking, the hotel itself however leaves a little to be desired. The room we had, although newer seemed cheaply made, the carpet wasn't vacuumed and we had what I hope was chocolate smeared on the base of the bed. the staff is somewhat hit or miss, the front desk on arrival was pleasant but on departure was a little rough around the edges. at the restaurant the host was excellent and extremely attentive while our waiter seemed rather aloof and tired of his job. I would say that this is probably one of the better places to stay in trim but of the five hotels / B&B's we stayed at this place was in the bottom two but also the cheapest.

Nice modern hotel, with lots of parking. Modern, wide-open lobby, very pleasant staff, and large comfortable rooms. Wi Fi available in rooms. Some rooms come with a nice view of the castle itself, but it's just a few steps away so not a big deal if you don't get that view. We ate dinner at the pub, which was good, and had breakfast included with the room, which was wonderful!

It was a very fine and comfortable stay and the hotel is highly recommended for anyone staying in Trim.

After an amazing afternoon exploring the Round Tower and High Crosses of Kells, whose St. Columba monastery originally housed the illuminated Book of Kells (ca. 800 AD) now displayed at Trinity College in Dublin, we pointed our bicycles in the direction of the designated Heritage Town of Trim. Pedaling feverishly we planned to secure a place in the last Trim Castle keep tour of the day before we checked in at the four-star rated Trim Castle Hotel.

The Cooley Mountain's Slieve Foy leprechauns must have stowed away in our bikes' pannier packs as their mischievous handiwork materialized in a "punctured tyre" (the Irish spelling is important here as we were riding bicycles from a UC Dublin bike shop), creating a delayed arrival in Trim, and a proclamation by the Trim Castle tour office that the 5 p.m. tour group had already reached its capacity. The leprechauns were probably rolling in laughter!

Luck would be on our side though (we were in Ireland, after all) when one of our bicycling companions ran down the castle's steep staircase entrance to beckon us to join the tour group which had already assembled in the 75 foot high stone keep. It appeared he had slipped the tour guide 10 Euros to allow us to be able to visit Hugh de Lacy's largely intact 12th century Norman fort. Imagine! We went along with the game, scampered up the stairs, marveled at the views which looked out over the magnificent Boyne Valley, and tried to be as respectful as we could to our very hot and tired tour guide who kept reminding us that the group was too large.

After we explored the catwalks of the keep and admired the "set" which brought "Braveheart's" story to the screen, we made our way down Castle Street to the Trim Castle Hotel. The lobby's elegant and welcoming decor--warm golden tiles, inviting fireplace, and rust-toned carpeting, furniture and accents--were so appreciated after an afternoon exploring country roads upon the saddle of a bike. We were delighted to find private shower/bath combinations in our two rooms with complimentary toiletries (in tiny gift-worthy rust-colored boxes with the Trim Castle Hotel logo inscribed in gold on top) and a hair dryer to ensure we were properly coiffed for the evening's events. Our furnishings were fresh and modern but the room's most spectacular attribute was its view of Trim Castle--it was lovely during the day to be so close to the largest castle of its type in Western Europe, but absolutely exquisite at night to behold the spectrum of colors splashed upon the walls. We will never forget our summer evening's walk with flowers in full bloom providing a colorful frame against the ethereal beauty of Trim's weathered stone ruins.

The rooms were equipped with complimentary wireless internet access, direct dial phones, televisions, and an invitation to use a nearby fitness center (for a discounted rate). Room service was available or we could dine at an on site coffee shop/cafe or at the hotel's restaurant.

That evening our bicycling group chose to assemble at an excellent contemporary Italian restaurant --La Scala's on Finnegan's Way--for dinner but thoroughly enjoyed the lavish breakfast buffet provided by the hotel the following morning. The second floor breakfast room offered hot Irish dishes, cereals, Danish pastries, scones, fruits, yogurts, and attentive servers making sure we had enough coffee, tea, and Irish hospitality.

The only drawback I could find with this hotel was the difficulty we had sleeping. Obviously enjoying the evening’s magical castle illuminations, skateboarders could be heard at 10:30 p.m. outside our bedroom window perfecting their ollies, boardslides, and 360 flips while we were trying to get a good night's sleep in anticipation of our 40 mile bike ride into Dublin in the morning. When I alerted the front desk to this problem, they immediately went outside to disperse the group. Our daughter also recalled church bells ringing throughout the night--but, all-in-all, we were cozy and grateful to have a fairly restful night in Trim.

Just down the trail from Trim was a site that James, our Cycling Safaris bus driver who lime lights as an Ardee Community Band tuba teacher, highly recommended we see. “Hill of Tara,” he said, “is the most hallowed site in the country to the Irish folk.” So we navigated towards Tara and enjoyed a spiritual walk alongside the resident sheep who grazed by pre-Christian burial mounds, earthen circles, and trenches that had once been vibrant forts, banqueting halls, homes, and the coronation site of 142 High Kings of Ireland. It is said that St. Patrick visited Tara in the 430's AD after lighting his "Paschal Fire" on the nearby Hill of Slane, showing the pagan Celts the power of his faith.

We loved our stay at the Trim Castle Hotel and exploring the unforgettable offerings of County Meath—the Boyne Valley, Kells, Hill of Tara, Hill of Slane, Newgrange, Knowth, and Trim Castle. We are grateful to James for recommending this special part of Ireland to us and to the attentive staff at the Trim Castle Hotel for their exceptional Irish hospitality and for providing one of the most magical light shows I have ever experienced..
