“Dirty, Uncomfortable, Noisy & Bad Breakfast”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2007

We stayed at some wonderful B&Bs on our trip to Ireland. Highfield was not one of them. Maybe we were spoiled but this place did not please us.

OUr room was tiny. Maybe it was a closet in the past? Bathroom had dirty glasses, very dim lights but we could still see the dust and spider webs. It needed a good scrubbing and cleaning!

The worst thing were the beds and the noise. We had two beds in the tiny room. My matress was lumpy, crooked and had no support. The other was not much better. Very uncomfortable night. There was a lot of traffic noise from the highway in front of the house. We did not sleep well.

Breakfast was a disaster. Eggs cooked to a rubbery crisp that we tried to eat but gave up on. We were glad to leave. What can I say about the hosts? Not much because we hardly saw them. They were happy to take our money in the morning. I did not think it was money well spent.

At other B&Bs we stayed at the hostess always asked if we slept well and liked our stay. At this one they did not ask. I guess they knew better.

This was one of the nicest B&Bs we stayed at in Ireland. The grounds are lovely. They even have a telescope in their garden you can use to view some ruins that are far away (you don't need the telescope to view Trim Castle because it is so close). The house is very nicely kept. Our family room was one of the biggest we had on our trip. Even the bathroom was much bigger than average.

The breakfast was wonderful. They have several different options to choose from, all of which were delicious.

I would certainly stay here again.

Highfield House, centrally located in Trim, and a short walk to the castle there, is wonderful. We were graciously welcomed into the home, and were shown to our rooms, with every effort being made to be sure that we were happy. I couldn't have bee more happy with my room. There were 2 twin beds, at opposite ends of the room, both beautifully made up and comfy. The window boxes of flowers just outside the room were fragrant and beautiful, and the view from the window was a lovely sight of an old ruin off in the distance.

The bathroom was well-equipped and nicely arranged, with a wide window shelf where I could keep all my toiletries and things.

Breakfast was lovely each morning, with fruits, cereals, and omelettes made to order. There was even a lovely cheese platter offered as a selection. In the foyer, there were guidebooks to the area and magazines for reading, which offered some lovely information on the area and surrounding sights.

As we were leaving Highfield House, the hostess mentioned that most of the people in Trim had been born in the house, as it used to be a maternity hospital for the city. I can definietly say that after our stay there, we felt reborn and rejuvenated.

This is a wonderful little place in a wonderful little town. Up on a hill overlooking a huge castle, the grounds are lovely, and the view is great. The room we had was decorated nicely, was warm, and had a great shower. Breakfast was very good and was served quickly. The castle is just spectacular.

We reserved a family room well in advance and were very disappointed with the accommodations. My family of five were jammed in a tiny room which contained one double, one single and two roll away beds all this for $185.00 US dollars. Taking a gander in the rear of the B & B was a shock, towels & sheets piled on the ground waiting to be laundered, dishes on the kitchen counter & in the sink, & general untidiness. The B & B is close to Trim Castle but is misrepresented when claims to “overlook Trim Castle”, perhaps if you crane your neck. Don’t bother visiting this place.

Stayed 1 night, May 19th. Nicely decorated room, lovely colored glass. Easy walking to Trim Castle (good tour), beautiful church, fantastic restaurant--Franzini O'Briens--for dinner. Yummy omlette for breakfast.

Large old house, high ceilings, beautifully decorated, surrounded by treed grounds, and run by a pleasant and helpful couple. You cant actually see the castle from your room although its very nearby and stunning by day and night. The town itself is worth a visit, and is near enough to Newgrange if you're driving. Self-serve internet connection in the foyer is handy.
