“Damaged by the bad winter weather but still a magnificent course”

The first hole is dramatic. The course is long and at present buggies can only be used with a Caddie.Apparently someone on another course drove over a cliff with deadly result. This seems like an over reaction to me and an extra £50 to boot. We really enjoyed the course and each time we played it took about 5 hours.

Played a round of golf today - sunshine and no wind! Very unusual for the wild Atlantic Coast of Ireland.
We had an excellent soup and sandwich lunch on the terrace - good wholesome food, and very attentive and friendly waiting staff.
Will definitely be back!

The day before we flew, our agent told us that we would be getting a refund because some of the holes were damaged at the start of 2014. This made us concerned at what we would find and annoyed we had not been given the chance to make alternative plans. So we were not in the best frame of mind when we arrived. What followed exceeded expectations. Although the 1st hole is impressive and not every hole matched this standard as we chopped and changed to play 18 holes, we enjoyed it enormously. The lunch on the terrace in sunshine in May (yes sunshine in May) coupled with good food and Guinness and red wine persuaded us to ask about rooms - two twins were arranged - followed by 10 more holes and then a great dinner in the golf bar. Good wine list and reasonably priced. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed, but we weren't in them for long. A good breakfast and we were off to Ballybunion. Yes it caters for an American market and is a bit fake, but overall, we loved it. I'd go back.

Considering it is a top end golf / spa / leisure resort the restaurant facilities were very reasonable, wine top end of price list but food was excellent and not too expensive. Would recommend a visit.

My three Sons and I stayed and played at Doonbeg and Lahinch while staying at one of the delightful two (2) bedroom cottages. The course has sustained storm damage but is being quickly repaired and is still quite enjoyable. We found the staff at the hotel and pub very friendly and helpful. The food in the main dining room was great for breakfast and we ate several times in the pub where we thought the food excellent. The Trump acquisition will make Doonbeg one of the gems of Ireland. It is a bit isolated for those who are looking for more activity but is an excellent venue for golfing and lodging.
