“Avoid ... unless you're part of German coach-tour”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

Only stayed here one night but that was more than enough. Firstly, it's very misadvertised since it's miles outside of the town, halfway up a mountain (and in fact is as pretty much near to Vathy as to Pythagorion). Pretty poor all round and seemed more like a transit hotel than anywhere you'd want to stay for very long. Seems to be primarily aimed at the package tour crowd and it was full of coach-trip groups. The "accommodation blocks" are cold and functional. The area around the pool is just for people who want to bake themselves like slabs of meat. The public area and foyer feels a bit like an old-folks home. And they have a weird policy of locking you in/out when reception closes; the desk is NOT 24hr as advertised which can be a problem if you have an early/late arrival/departure. Avoid.

The hotel rooms were very large and spacious. All of the rooms had a great view of Glycoriza bay as well as the pool. The pool was also very nice and large enough. The reception was very helpfull and kind.

The only problem was.. the 'hotel owner'.... He was a grouchy man who spoke really bad to his employees. His face was always moody and he looked at all clients (us) as if he couldn't wait to get rid of them.

A very bad moment was when I heard him talk very bad to an employee and yield at her as if she was a slave (ps. they were passing client in front of him all this time)- VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!

And the highlight of our vacations was when I heard him saying to an employee (he didn't know that I spoke Greek) that he couldn't understand what kind of bread the residents wanted for breakfast, and he complained that they had to throw away such an amount of bread. So he ask an employee if they had bread in the freezer (!!!!) and he told her to get it out to serve it to us the next morning!! Of course I never ate any more bread from them...
His stinginess was also very clear in the breakfast. The bread was awful... Coffee was awful... And he always yield when the bacon ended and they had to fill again the serving dishes............!!!!!
The general feeling was that if HE wasn't the owner of that hotel, and he let all employees to do their jobs without NOISE, this hotel would be ideal. But it isn't............

Room Tip: Avoid the stairs...

We booked and payed our room in this hotel via our travel agency but when we arrived to the hotel they told us that they have no empty rooms for us and that they reserved another room in another hotel for us! We also had our confirmation papers with us but they told us they have nothinv to do! And we stayed in another terrible dirty hotel! Things should be in an order if they do not have available rooms why do they confirm our reservation and take the money from us. Be careful to this hotel!!

The hotel was spotless and the staff very friendly and helpful. Great view and close proximity to Pythagorion and Glycorisa beach. However the owner, made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed. We were told not to walk on the stairs with flip flops as this causes noise and the owner said that it was a mistake to let us stay there, as we had children with us.needless to say the children were never there as we had breakfast and then toured the island. So why accept our reservation in the first place...

The Naftilos offered clean and adequately-sized rooms and a relatively big pool (about 15-18m). It is situated in a quiet location, although directly behind the main road, with a beautiful view of the sea. The hotel is about 2km from Pythagoriou, and although a bus shuttle is offered for free twice a day, a car is advisable.

We enjoyed our stay. A main concern is the mediocre (and that may be a rather diplomatic expression) breakfast, but this is not uncommon in Greece.

Rooms have fantastic views across water to Turkish coastline. Rooms are lovely, bright and clean, with real bed for 3rd person. We liked best the nice pool and spa and lovely sittings areas throughout the hotel. Hot cooked breakfast with variety of foods. Staff very friendly and helpful. Quiet location, with a long walk downhill to Pythagorion town. Car rental arranged by hotel staff, good rates and car delivered to hotel. Or free shuttle service twice a day between hotel and Pythagorion town. We liked least the constraints such as 8pm pool closing daily, and need to replace own soap and shampoo if staying more than a couple of days.
