We caught the ferry from Kusadasi to Samos on a beautiful sunny day in late August. When we arrived at the hotel I was intrigued with the large "faux " village in which the resort is located. It reminded me of the Welsh village from the old TV series Prisoner with Patrick Magee. We were taken to an amazing room overlooking the pool and ocean. Our room was beautifully clean, modern and spacious with a large balcony and windows across the width of the room. The village shop has drinks and snacks so we filled our fridge with things we liked. There are lots of activities in the hotel and the spa is very pleasant.
This is a large, busy resort which caters to families so if you are looking for an intimate small hotel this will not be for you. However, we were there on our own and very happy to watch children, parents and grandparents enjoying a family holiday. Everyone is catered for. The beach is just in front of the hotel and we stayed on the beach swimming and reading very happily for 2 days. Other days were spent exploring this green, pretty island. Ocean and beach were clean and we could see there were many water activities which could be booked, if desired. The environment is outstanding; beautiful ocean views, ancient ruins, an old castle and mountain villages closeby. Pythagorion is a charming town about 15 minutes walk from the resort. Plenty of restaurants and coffee shops and enough tourist shops to be interesting without overwhelming the character of this buzzy town. Food at the hotel is buffet style but is very good considering the number of guests who eat in the main 2 restaurants; alternatively a walk to one of the many restaurants in Pythagorion is fun. Staff are outstanding; very pleasant and helpful. Happy to do a return visit.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are good for couples. Families might prefer the villas.

We arrived at Doryssa on Oct 11. It didn't start too well as the porter placed a suitcase in the wrong room. This was obviously the end of season, as the selction of wine etc was small and the minimarket almost out of goods. We were impressed with the breakfast, both location and food. Excellent. We also liked the lunch bar at the beach. I must also mention Chrisoula and her colleagues at the desk. They were very helpful. The hotel treated us to a big cake as one in the group had his 75th birthday. The rooms were very stylish, but not very practical. Next time we will stay in the village. That looked nice, but was empty so late in the season.

Me and my family visited Dorryssa in late August to early September. We are a family of four: two grownups in their early thirties, one three year old daughter and a four months old son.

This was the first time we deliberately chose a hotel with all-inclusive and having the plan to not leave the compound except one or two times. Therefore it was crucially important that we had good food, beautiful surroundings and a overall feeling of luxury.

Tl:dr:
A high quality four star hotel with good food and good rooms. Perfect for families with children but have something for everyone.

Reception:
The first impression is warm and welcoming. Staff stands ready with water in the sun and the check-in is a breeze. The staff in the reception is professional, not warm. Smiles where a rare sight. They missed some small things, we had booked a pram and other small stuff. Nothing big and it all got fixed the following days. But that keeps them at three stars not four right of the bat.

Rooms:
We had booked a family room with a sea view and got exactly that. The room where two rooms joined by a door and where probably the best rooms we have had around the Mediterranean. It was fresh, clean and luxurious. With a quick call we got a microwave to heat water to our kids. The rooms where not entirely sound proof to the corridor. The air conditioning was effective and relatively quiet. It had some glitches though and didn't always start, for no apparent reason.

Grounds:
The hotelgrounds was extremely well kept and beautifully planned. It's well worth a little walk to enjoy the "old" village. The beach part is quite iconic with the lawns, the trees and the sea.

Activities:
The most important thing for our daughter where the pools and we spent most of our days lazily lounging here. The pools where well kept and under the watchful eye of a life saver. There would have been nice with a roofed baby pool, the sun can be quite intense. All sun-chairs had call buttons to the staff and we learned to use them.
There where quite a lot of activities for the kids, everyday something happened by the pool and the lawns. Clowns, parades, balloon figures, face painting and just general silliness kept our daughter busy and happy. Five stars and a thumb up right there.
In the evening there where high quality entertainment and shows for the grown ups while the kids where winding down and falling asleep in our laps. The Ratpack themed evening was a favorite.

Beeing a history buff the presence of a ruin and museum on or next to the grounds where a huge bonus. The ruins are not described or documented though, a pity.
We couldn't get past the pool and get to the beach so I can't really say anything other than that it looked good from a distance.
They had an excellent baby lounge with changing stations and couches for feeding. It was a bit remote from everything so we didn't use it as much as we wanted to.

Food:
We love good food and eating out but we have to admit that our situation with the kids limits us a bit. With that in mind we blended in perfectly in the restaurant that had a kids buffet. That was a quite clever way of making the other restaurants quieter. There where almost always time to eat and there where plenty of different dishes. This was a good buffet with high quality produce and obvious care taken in the kitchen. However it had the drawbacks that buffets tend to have: a general lack of taste, dry fish, dry meat and mushy veggies. The puddings all looked very welcoming but tasted rather blend.
The snacks by the pool where OK but quite limited.
The free alcoholic drinks where undrinkable and become something of a topic among us guests. It was obvious that the staff had no clue of how to make drinks. How can you make a gin and tonic with nine parts ouzo and one part tonic? Even when we payed for them they where horrible. Avoid at all costs and stick to wine and beer.

Staff:
The staff where generally attentive and correct. The spa staff at first where rude and unwelcoming but we changed their minds. At the restaurant they where all very lovely and took turns to hold and play with our five months old baby boy who laughed like crazy with them. They where the best.

All in all a perfect vacation.

There was a friendly welcome on our arrival, when we were shown to our very well appointed and wonderful apartment which had a fantastic sea view.Breakfast was on the pricey side but ample and having an evening swim at the sandy beach every night was really cool.I recommed this hotel for families and couples, the value for money is really good.

For the second year we stayed at the Doryssa hotel near Pythagorion Samos and we were again very pleased with it!
First of all the location is convieniently located very close to the Samos airport (less than 5 minutes by car). The place is also fantastic: the hotel is located at the seaside (you just walk to the beach without crossing any road), the view to Pythagorion is great and the beach itsself is great mostly with thick sand. BTW, being close to the airport is not a problem as planes pass during non-sleeping hours.
We got a great room (suite) in the "village" part of the hotel, which was huge and can accomodate easily 4 persons (two big rooms and two bathrooms). It is modern and simple style. We also got a half-board. Although a bit expensive this room-food comination is great, especially with the flexibility of switching between dinner and lunch.
The breakfast and meals are also very good with great variety and great service.
Overall it is a bit pricy (at least for Greeks - I hear that packages for foreigners all-inclusive are much better...). This is unfair, let's hope that it will be fixed.

Room Tip: The "village" part of the hotel is much better than the main building but also more expens...

Our 8th stay in Doryssa Bay was fantastic again. Since we appreciate the extra quietness of the village, we stayed in a village room. Every year we feel more and more at home on Samos and in Doryssa. The staff is helpful and friendly, the food excellent and the beach wonderful. We noticed that the village side and restaurant is quieter than the hotelside. The wideness of the area makes it very easy to chose between a more lively or more quiet ambiance a feature that is rather rare in high class resorts. What makes Doryssa unique (we were in dozens of other beautiful Greek and Turkish resorts) is, what I call the extra dimension. For the same price, I'm sure you can find some more superficial blingbling in some resorts. The extra dimension in Doryssa is in the personal, warm and friendly approach of the staff. They really do their outmost best to make you feel at home and to create not just a businessrelation host-guest, but also a mood of care and friendship. That is what Greeks are so good at and why we love the country. And then there is the closeness of Pythagorio. I read some people find the 15min. walk dull. Take the effort to read a bit about the rich history and architectural masterpieces between Pythagorio and Heraion, and then look around when you make the walk. You will find that all the remains of ruins you see there start to speak to you. When you arrive in Pythagorio with that in mind, you will experience the wonderful cosyness of the place more intense, and when jou walk back to Doryssa, a beautiful night of good sleep will await you. Next morning, take an early refreshing swim before going to the wonderful buffet for a lovely breakfast outside with a view to the beach and the sea... Then you will feel a true 5star treatment. We look forward to next summer!
