Just returned from 2 weeks at the Silo Apartments in Lassi. This was our first visit to Kefalonia and we absolutely fell in love with the island. The Silo Apartments were great, spotless, well equipped with kettle, toaster, satellite tv and free room safe. The apartments were light and airy and simply but tastefully furtnished. The staff were very pleasant and helpful particularly Effi at the pool bar. who was the main point of contact for anything you needed. Fresh bread availble every morning except Sunday (order the day before). The gardens are beautiful - we had a pear tree and a pomegranate tree outside of our apartment. A five or ten minute walk (depending on how fast you walk and of course the temperature) takes you to the main Lassi Road where there are around 20 restaurants. We ate in 12 of them and they all cater for a wide variety of tastes including of course typical Greek dishes which we favour. Still good value for money even in the current econmic climate at around 25 euros for a main meal with wine, beer and water for 2 people. We honestly couldn't fault a thing in either the apartments or the resort and have already booked to return next summer.

This is the 8th time we have visited Kefalonia, but the 1st time at Silo Studios. Other guests told us that the 1st floor studios are fabulous, but we were on the ground floor, at the end of a block. There were 4 marble steps up into the main room, with the shower room being at the bottom of these stairs, making it very dangerous for families with young children. There was no net curtain at the french doors, making it impossible to have any privacy in your room due to people walking past; we had to keep the curtain closed all the time, and with the walls of the studio painted dark green, curtain and bedspread also dark green you can imagine how dark the room was! No towels for the first 2 days, 4 days to get a broken light mended, and ants pouring out of the ventilation holes behind the sink. Thompsons information board showed incorrect time for pick up to airport, had to ring 24/7 helpline which took 4 calls to sort, and then 'attitude' from the rep in charge of transfers to airport! Maybe we were unlucky?

My wife and I have just returned from a fortnight stay at Silo Studios during the middle two weeks of September. We were looking for a chill-out, peaceful and relaxing break - and that is just what we got. We stayed in an upstairs apartment furthest from reception. Upstairs gave us a bit more privacy although we had to share our balcony with our neighbours and our sea-view was almost blocked by the Thalassa Apartments (newer built - but owned by the same family) infront of us. Most apartments generally had an inner-looking garden aspect which remained quiet during the whole day. There were two pools available - shared with the Thalassa. We never found the pools crowded and rarely saw 'early morning towels'. Whilst self-catering, there was a small shop for basic needs like bread, milk, water, etc on site although bread had to be ordered the day before (1 Euro) - not available Sundays. We took our own cereals, tea and coffee from home. Lunches were available from the bar: sandwiches (3.50E), lovely salads (5.50-6.00E), omelettes (6.00E). Beers were all bottled (2.50E each). The rooms were large by Greek standards (ours had a high ceiling) and clean. We needed the air conditioning on and obtained the hand control from reception. The A/C costs 4E a night. Towels, toilet paper, bottled soap and washing up liquid were all provided together with a free room safe. We needed to bring a hair-dryer though. Rooms were cleaned five times a week - usually in the afternoon (which allowed for the odd lie-in.) There are two fairly narrow beaches (and therefore a bit crowded) nearby - both walkable within minutes. Expect to pay between 5 & 7 E. for two sunbeds (with a free sunshade). Better beaches (not too far away) can be found towards the White Rocks hotel (south of the town towards the airport). Lassi itself is a flat one-road town less than two killometres long and only 5K from the airport. The main road (or just off) contains at least 15 restaurants, 8 car hire places and 6 supermarkets. We ate out each evening usually in different restaurants where the food was generally very good. Two main meals with water and local wine would cost around 23 to 30 E (depending on the size of the wine carafe.) Surprisingly, despite a Greek smoking ban since July, 2009 - all restaurants actively still encourage it with ashtrays on all the tables, with the exception of Il Gabiano which had a no-smoking area. Our favourites included Il Gabiano, Phaedra, Nefeli and Trata Sea Food. The High street is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the Silo studios. Remember to bring a torch for the walk home through the lanes. Thomson recommended Pefanis for car hire (next to Supermarket Lassi on the south edge - airport - end of town) where hire can be split over two weeks for a combined cost. A Group A car hired in this way for two and then three days the following week was 160E including all insurances. Petrol stations are serviced. The attendand will ask how much (in Euros). Fuel was about 1.15 to 1.20E per litre. 7 Euros worth would last a day. Supermarket prices: jam/marmalade jar 1.85E, 5 lts. water 1.90E and paperbacks 13.50E (bring your own). Overall we had a very relaxed and peaceful time just doing our own thing and would recommend the Silo Studios for that purpose.

My daughter and I had our first holiday to Cephalonia at the end of August. We had two weeks self catering staying at the Silo Studios which are tucked away behind the main Lassi strip.

The studio was lovely, beautifully decorated and furnished to a high degree, in fact they are the best studios we have stayed in. I guess if people want to cook whilst on holiday a few more items, microwave, seating area might be a bonus but for us we eat out at the restaurants, having snacks only at the apartment.

We hired a car for 4 days from CBR on the main Lassi road who were very helpful and friendly and headed off for the usual visits, Fiskardo which is absolutely gorgeous we could have stayed there all day, Assos again so beautiful and relaxing.

Myrtos beach which is visually stunning from the road above, and my favourite beach on the island Antisamos which is reached by driving through the port of Sami. The only thing I couldn't find on that beach was a shower although there was a hosepipe outside the toilet block!

Melisanni lake, again the camera didn't do the colour of the water justice just a stunning sight, Drogerati caves were spectacular.

One of the highlights for my daughter was seeing the loggerhead turtles being fed by the fisherman each morning at 11am at the quayside in Argostoli which was just wonderful, such lovely creatures and very happy to pose for the camera.

We ate at most of the restaurants in Lassi and were made very welcome in all of them, we didn't have a meal that we could be negative about, a small moan was portion sizes which seemed to vary, some restaurants gave side orders such as rice, potatoes others just the main ingredient but as I said just a little personal niggle of mine.

The 'long beach' in Lassi is very clean and sunbeds were a plenty, 3 Euros a day which I thought was very reasonable.

This was a great introduction to the island and we will return.
The apartments were absolutely lovely the owners so happy to help, no charge for a safety deposit box, 56 Euros for two weeks air con.

As for our tour operator Thomas Cook, I wish I had one positive comment to make, suffice to say a letter of complaint has been sent to them about their total lack of resort service which I assume I was charged for in the holiday cost. We saw no one from TC for the duration of our holiday, we had a name of the person who was supposedly our rep, neither was there a rep on the transfer from the airport to the accommodation. An absolute case of no interest in customers after the final invoice has been paid!

Basic rooms, unfriendly, non-smiling staff. Also had 2 unpleasant encounters with owner of adjoining Thalassa hotel who threatened to call the police if we didnt get out of 'her' pool' even though this was part of the complex and we had permission with Thomson as part of the holiday to use this pool.
Bear in mind as well if you want to walk to the main street in Lassi it is along a narrow winding unlit road, which is pitch black after dusk.
Wouldn't recommend and wouldn't return.
