“Breathtaking views - wonderful relaxing stay at Thalassa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

Just returned from a really enchanting holiday at this hotel in the stunning Island of Kefalonia. I have to agree with the majority of the reviews here and the hotel is not really quite a 4* yet but heading there. For the first couple of nights we were allocated a standard room with breathtaking views....only the room itself was pretty basic ( hence the name Standard) and the shower pretty bad. One of the glass shower doors came off and it could have been dangerous if a small kid was in there. Thankfully nothing happened and we simply advised reception. They took care of it as you would expect any hotel to. We were then upgraded at no extra cost to a suite in the main block and I fully recommend anyone to book one of these rooms. It's worth the extra money I guess if all the "standard" rooms are decorated the way our initial bedroom was. I have no words to describe the double shower in the suite: STUNNING! Unfortunately there was a leaking fridge which was positioned right under the safe and was overheating badly, so if you have to leave anything electrical in the safe, like a mobile phone, camera or iPad, make sure you move the fridge to one side. We don't expect anything to be perfect but I cannot fault the hotel for these minimal things that you can live with and put right. Angela is exactly as everyone describes her and I would like to give a special thank you also to the two girls at reception, one in particular (blonde hair) whose name I don't remember unfortunately, but she is super sweet and always very helpful and polite!!!! We had a great stay at Thalassa Hotel and will recommend it to family and friends. Only one small incident spoiled our expectations which wasn't anything to do with our stay at the hotel: the trip on the private speedboat recommended by Angela and two clients of the hotel. The same one Stanley (previous feedback) refers too. It did not turn out to be what was expected, unlike the other review here. I had a chance to discuss with Stanley and other people at the hotel who took the same trip, what went on during their trip and compare it with ours, and found out that we missed out on a couple of sightings + we were dumped on a beach were they were having a party "Ibiza style" with extremely loud music! It is true that Nikolas ( the captain) asked us if we wanted to go to this party because his family and friends were there and we said yes (we simply did not want to be rude) but we did not discuss being dumped there, having to take a taxi back to Lassi which costed more than if he left us at Argostoli, where our trip commenced. Not how you expect to end a romantic boat trip at sea. If you happen to take a trip on his speed boat, make sure you discuss in advance what you would like to see...apparently there is a nice taverna, only reachable by boat, where he normally takes people for lunch......well we did not get to go there unfortunately...and it is not true that you will be alone with him on the boat, but his girlfriend will be there too. Lovely woman.....but expect NOT to be just the two of you! All in all...Kefalonia and Thalassa hotel make a good combo for the perfect, romantic holiday!

Room Tip: Suites on the main block! Perfect!

As I sit by the pool to write my review, I really can't find anything to fault the hotel!!!
The family friendly approach (you really do feel like you are part of the family) started before we arrived, as I chose to book direct with hotel. Angela who owns the hotel goes out of her way to make your stay perfect!
We have the honey moon suite/white suite and the room is stunning (will load pictures and put a detailed review when we are back in the UK). The location is a 5minute stroll to Lassi and a 6 euro taxi to Argostoli (will follow up with my restaurant rec,s). If you are thinking of booking- do it- this is by far the best hotel in Lassi and as for Angela, Eleni and the staff- they make the stay that extra bit special!!
Eleni and Angela pointed us to the best restaurants, and arranged for us to hire a boat for the day- what a way to see the island- we had our own luxury boat with our own captain who took us to parts of the island and beaches only the locals know about!
Great pool, very, very quite- if you want luxury, relaxation and peace and quiet this is the hotel for you- thanks Anegla for spoiling us (wine and the best Nutella cake left in our room)- more to follow!!

We stayed 3 nights in one of the sea view suites that this hotel provides. The room was beautiful, trendy & nice - the only complaint we have is that they don't offer wifi in the rooms of this price range + the fact that the wifi in the reception was so weak....not comparable to other Greek hotels with lower standard then this one. Hotel staff was amazing! Friendly, lovable & helpful at all times.
The staff recommended a restaurant that I can also recommend for good Greek good in the djungle of touristic restaurants in Lassi - name is Sirtaki. Good Greek food, friendly staff & a very nice garden to take a digistivo after dinner. Don't miss if you're in Lassi!

We booked this hotel direct through the hotel website after changing our original plans to stay in Fiskardo. We were so pleased we did as it was fantastic. We booked a room with sea view and on arrival were given a choice of two rooms, one slightly larger but with a small balcony. We went for the smaller room with a very large balcony! The view is simply breathtaking and worth paying the extra for this.

The hotel provided an excellent buffet breakfast with a good selection of hot and cold food. The staff were attentive and very friendly, they went out of their way to provide good customer service. We had Greek coffees every morning and sat on the terrace admiring the view.

Its a great location with close proximity to the airport and Makris beach, the trendiest beach in Kefalonia with lots of sand! You can easily drive or take a taxi into Argostoli and walk to Lassi where there are plenty of Tavernas.

The receptionists and manageress were very helpful in finding us restaurants and recommendations of places to visit.

A great hotel and beautiful island I'd recommend Thalassa to my friends and family it was a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: Stay in the main block by reception on the 1st or 2nd floor it has the best views

We stayed at the Thalassa in July 2013. A late booking via Secret Escapes. The hotel was beautifully situated and our room, as advertised, had a great sea view. Staff were great, very helpful and breakfast very good, as was the hotel policy of providing free wine when using the reception which, we took advantage of most evenings before walking about a mile into Lassi for a meal. Our room was spacious, clean and with an excellent daily maid service, however our shower needed maintenance with the shower head caked with scale and a broken shower hose and wall fixing which, we mentioned to reception, but sadly nothing was done about it. Outside the grounds were kept to a high standard and were very attractive. The hotel had a lovely pool with adequate sun beds for the use of the hotel but, here's the rub....the hotel site was shared with a 24 unit 3* apartment complex. This complex of apartments also came with a slightly inferior pool which was adjacent to the hotel pool and, hence all facilities were shared amongst both hotel and apartment guests, thus losing any hopeful 4* exclusivity ! No reference was made to the shared site in either the hotel website or the advertised details on Secret Escapes. Despite the late booking deal, we felt mislead and were unhappy with the shared site arrangments. Not really 4* as advertised.

Room Tip: Rooms on ground floor were the most recently updated.

On arrival to the Thalassa Hotel we were allocated a sea view standard double room. The views from the room were lovely but the room itself was far from boutique and did not reflect images shown on the website. The overall décor of the room was basic and was finished to a poor standard:- Key socket was hanging off the wall, furniture stained, floor was dirty, fridge provided in room was falling apart, cracks in the wall, taps super-glued back together.. this was definitely not a promising start to our holiday..........

After complaining to both the manager and hotel staff who didn't seem to completely understand what the problem was with the room even though they could see we were both incredibly upset and disappointed we were told there was a possibility of being upgraded to a different room which occurred 3 days into our week stay when were allocated a superior room on the ground floor still with the magnificent sea view. This room was beautiful and reflected the "boutique" standards:- king-size bed, lovely décor, French style furniture and finished to a high quality.

Staff at the front of the hotel were incredibly friendly in helping us with any queries and questions from where the best places to eat were, how to get to beach etc.

Breakfast had a large selection of food from continental to more traditional Greek style.
The Lounge and Breakfast areas were wonderfully decorated and had a quirky edge to them to create the boutique ambience. The pools were lovely to laze around during the hotter parts of the day.

The Thalassa Hotel is ideally located:- sea views, a 5-10 minute walk to the Lassi main street and a short walk to the beach.

Overall a lovely hotel but some areas do need some TLC, would recommend to stay:- choose a superior/ sea view room to get the best experience ( but don't always believe the pictures)

Room Tip: Book a superior room or suite as the standard double rooms do not reflect the same quality as the re...

Dear Guests,

We reviewed your comments regarding your stay with us at Thalassa Hotel.

In our attempt to constantly improve our Hotel, we surely value all the feedback we can get from our guests.

Kindly be informed that a lot of our loyal guests do in fact choose our standard sea view rooms as a budget alternative for staying at Thalassa Hotel and enjoy our ideal location, as you also stated, with the breathtaking sea views and the close proximity to one of the best beaches of the island, Makris Gialos.

As stated before, your Tour Operator offers at the brochure standard sea view rooms, with pictures provided. Your tour operator gives you the choice of booking a superior room or a suite at an extra charge.

Please bear in mind that all standard sea view rooms feature the same furniture but with different colors, yet the taste of every guest is something that we cannot of course predict.

Standard sea view rooms at Thalassa Hotel offer value for money and our main goal is that all of our guests can experience the Hospitality offered at Thalassa Hotel, therefore there are different types of accommodation with the relevant pricing.

Furthermore, we do feel mixed about your review, since on the one hand you are referring to the Front Desk as they did not try to help you and on the other hand you describe the Front Desk as helpful.

Last but not least, we do feel that your comments about the standard rooms are not doing any justice. We do wonder though, since you did post pictures of the rooms, why did you not post any pictures about the low standards of Housekeeping in the rooms as you strongly stated on your review.

All rooms are being checked prior guest’s arrival and none of those allegations regarding the housekeeping standard of the rooms were reported.

I would favour the opportunity of welcoming you back to Thalassa Hotel and to personally attend to your every requirement. I am confident that a return visit to Kefalonia and to Thalassa Hotel would leave you with many more positive impressions than the ones you were already kind enough to mention. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally

Sincerely,
Angela Kalafati

Wonderful hotel with exceptional levels of service I have never experienced (even in the US!). Angela and her team simply couldn't do enough to make our stay memorable and it's so rare these days to find hoteliers who truly care about their guests. Stunning views, wonderful breakfasts, and a great pool area were the highlights. And whilst Lassi is not the prettiest resort on Kefalonia, it's a great base to discover the island from. Highly recommended and understandable why they get so many return visitors.
