“Lorenzo Hotel - May 2008”
Reviewed June 11, 2008

My wife and I enjoyed our week-long stay in Kefalonia staying at the Lorenzo Hotel in Lassi. Staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and the standard of cleanliness was very good. The room we were given (103) was fine (if a little close to the reception area) but had no view, well there was a small tree we became quite fond of.
If you are looking for a base from which to travel around the island, then the Lorenzo could be just right for you. The pool was well maintained, clean and offered a pleasant view across to the Luxouri Peninsular.
On the down side, it can get rather noisy in the bar area during the evening and some guests, in our experience, showed little or no regard for their fellow residents. We were often woken well after mid-night by noisy revellers.
Don't believe all you hear about some nationalities being the ones who get up early to place their towels on the sun loungers by the pool. In our experience, this was the practice of several fellow Brits.
As for places to visit. Argostoli is very nice and within walking distance (30mins) although the return walk can be quite hard on a hot day. If you have a heart condition or any problems walking then taxis are easily available and cost 5/6 Euros (one way).
Taking the Island Tour is a must, taking in Assos, Fiskado, Agia Efimia and the famous Myrtos Beach. The Drogati Cave, Melissani Cave and Lake, are also worth a visit although Drogati does have over 100 steps down to deal with, and the steps are much harder on the way up. There is also a Tree Islands Tour, which is sometimes a little costly and involves a long day (11 hours) which can be tiring.
Assos is a place worthy of taking the time to visit if you have your own transport, it is just so, so peaceful. If visited as part of a tour you only get to stay for around 30 mins.
In Lassi itself, there are some great beaches from small rocky coves to larger areas which include toilets showers and even food and drink outlets.
Restaurants we tried in Lassi included the Panorama (closest to Lorenzo) Il Gabbiano and Trata. All provide great food and excellent, friendly service.
Overall we had a great time on the island and would recommend trying the Lorenzo Hotel.

We have been to Lassi 30 times and the Lorenzo was one of the best we have stayed at. The staff are very friendly and the views are so breath takeing in all a very nice place to stay. Over the years staying in Lassi Mackies the owner as become a very good friend and we allways go and see him when we are in Lassi. If you want to spend a relaxing day try the Malibu bar and swiming pool the owner Andreos will make you most welcome From Derek & Anne Sheffield a tripadvisor member

Stayed in this hotel for one week and found the staff excellent, they were always helpful & friendly towards all the guests, even though some guests seemed a bit miserable!
The important thing to remember with this hotel, is that it is a 2 star hotel, or a C-Class in the Greek Tourist Classification. Also worth bearing in Mind is for the price we paid for our holiday inc flights we could not have even stayed in a travelodge on the M4!
The reception, corridors, bar and pool areas are actually really nicely done and do not in any way feel cheap. The drinks at the pool bar and reception bar are very reasonalbe when compared with the local bars & restaurants. The breakfast was very basic and lacked variety, but was good enough for what we wanted, and not unreasonable considering the 2 star rating and price of the hotel. Full English Breakfasts were available in some local taverna at about 5Euros if you really can't cope!
The room was possibly the aspect we were least pleased with, but was not too bad that we asked to be moved or anything. We felt that the furniture was more old fashioned than the pictures we saw in the brochure. The furniture was in good condition and there was plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, the balcony in our room was nice and had a really good view over the sea and across to Lixouri, which looked lovely all lit up in the evening. The main disappointment with the room was that there were only twin beds, and it was not really possible to push them together as the matressess did not meet up. The room was cleaned every day and the standard of cleaning really was excellent. Another basic feature of this room was that no TV was present, which I found strange in this day and age, but it was ok as we did not come on holiday to watch tv. There was also a large tv in the breakfast room which had Sky Digital on and was usually set to sky news.
We would not recommend staying in Lassi, or any other Kefalonian resort towards the end of the season (Mid Oct). When we arrived on Sunday, about half the bars and restaurants were closed, by Thursday less than a quarter remained open! The weather was pleasant on all days but one, but not really hot enough for us!
The resort of Lassi is ok, although a bit lacking in character. There is one central road, with shops, car hire lots, bars & restaurants alongside, with no views of the sea. The beaches are about a 5-10 minute walk from the main strip, but are really nice when you get to them.
The capital town of Argostoli is direct 30 min walk away, or a relaxing 2 hour walk on the scenic Finari Road. With the resorts being so quiet we were glad to be in Lassi, as the other resorts are at least 45 mins away from Argostoli by car and then you could not have a drink. 4 nights we walked in to Argolstoli for our meal and got a taxi back, which was reasonable at 5euros.
In honesty we may not use this hotel again, as we would probably stay in Sami if we visit Kefalonia again, but if we were to stay in Lassi again the Lorenzo would suit us fine.
