“Value for Money Accomodation in a friendly environment”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Susan P., August 2013

We love this place. It's the third time we visit Kefalonia (all times staying at FIORE DI MARE STUDIOS) These family run apartments are only a few minutes walk away from the blue flag awarded Makris Gialos beach. The location is ideal since studios are located a little bit uphill, in a big territory surrounded by olive trees and flowers, only 2 minutes walk from the main road and near to a great selection of tavernas, restaurants and supermarkets. Studios are quite spacious with kitchenette, private bathroom, air condition, satellite tv and free wi-fi internet. Parking space is available on site free of charge. Studios are cleaned on a daily basis and the service is excellent. Whatever we needed there was always a member of the Pavlatos family to help us. Definitely a value for money option. We renew our date at KEFALONIA and FIORE DI MARE STUDIOS for next year.

To begin with, the studios are not seaward from the main road, as shown on Google maps, but up the hill towards the interior. Not a big deal, but I always hate it when they show me a more favorable point on the map than the real one. But anyhow.

The rooms look spacious, and are pretty clean. Those are the good things. I don't need much more than a clean and comfortable place to sleep.

However, there were several niggles, some small, some bigger.

-To begin with, as we found out pretty soon, the cleaning lady only works (obviously part-time?) until 1pm. So, if you want to sleep in, eat breakfast at your room or whatever, you're out of luck - your room won't be cleaned and the towels and bed sheets won't be changed. When it gets cleaned, it's clean. When not - well, one night we came back to find what probably amounted to the advance party of an ant nest crawling all over the floor. Oh, the cleaning lady doesn't do dishes. Maybe that's normal, but at least they should supply some detergent.

-TV gets, IIRC, five channels, one from each of five countries. Fantastic! ...not.

-the matresses were probably the worst quality I've seen, the pillows certainly so and the beds creak with every breath you take.

-soundproofing in the building is non-existent. Probably to save cost. Couple this with the previous point and you'll see where I'm going with it. Every day I woke up either by the cleaning lady dragging furniture around (so hard to put pads under the furniture legs?) or by other noises.

-even though we made very light use of the toilet (we were out all day every day anyhow) we managed to clog the toilet! One could wonder how this would happen, until he saw the state the (visible!) plumbing was in (suffices to say that planning regulations in Greece are strict enough that it's very hard to cause a toilet to back). We also got a not-so-kind note from the landlady. Not appreciated.

Maybe it was worth slightly more than 2/5, but at €65/night that we paid there are better places...

We had a lovely studio at this accommodation. It was the usual, fairly basic Greek setup of one room with kitchenette & bathroom, but with some added bonuses such as being spacious, light & airy, with free air-con & wi-fi.

All the upstairs studios have their own balconies with a table & chairs (the downstairs ones have a place to sit outside their front doors).

Lila, who you will probably deal with when you book, is very friendly & speaks excellent English. She & other members of the family always seemed to be around on site, & when we had a problem with our bathroom tap the father was only too keen to come & sort it out immediately. This made for a nicer atmosphere than with the impersonal service when you go with a tour operator.

The location is also great - not too far up the hill (towards St Gerasimo's Cave), but well away from the main road.

I would definitely recommend this accommodation. It's the third studio we've experienced in Lassi, & we will hope to stay at Fiore di Mare again next time.

I loved this place. It’s located a little bit uphill but just 3 min walk to main road with shops and tavernas. Beach is 10 min walk. It’s quiet, calm, surrounded by olive garden. Free parking on hotel territory. Swing for children. Barbecue facilities. Shower. The room is pretty spacious with kitchenette and balcony with nice view. Free wifi which worked quite stable in my room. Staff was friendly and helpful though almost didn’t speak English. The overall atmosphere is very relaxing. I would definitely come back here again!

Room Tip: ask for room with balcony
