I recently stayed at Artemis Village for a week. I've been to Santorini many times previously however this was my first stay in this area. The absolute highlight of my stay, and main reason for chosing this hotel, was that I could hear the waves rolling in - all day and night from my room. Monolithos beach is just over 100m from this property (further if you are walking via the road). I really enjoyed sitting on my balcony gazing at the sea, or reading - table & very comfortable chairs on the bacony which is semi-private depending on the room.
I stayed in two rooms during my stay, both on the 1st floor, one was next to reception. The rooms are reasonably basic. Both rooms have recently been renovated. Rooms were a reasonable size. Beds were comfortable. Lighting was very good. Plenty of wardrobe space, Surprisingly I heard very little noise in my room from people in the reception area. Bathrooms are typical of older hotels in Santorini - read small. Showers have curtains so there was very little flooding on the floor, not much space to store items in the bathroom, but it was sufficient for one person. Rooms have air conditioning at no extra cost. Rooms are cleaned daily, towels replaced. Standard of cleaning at the hotel is excellent!
There are tables in the smallish reception area where you can have your complimentary morning tea or coffee or alternatively outside near the reception. There is no breakfast service available.
The pool area is spacious and there are plenty of comfortable sunbeds, and some umbrellas.
I found this hotel to be extremely peaceful. There is only one neighbouring property and the road (which is anything but a thoroughfare) is a reasonable enough distance from the hotel - I didn't once hear any road traffic noise. You will hear aircraft taking off from time to time as the hotel is quite close to the airport. I am not overly tolerant of noise however the planes never bothered me.
Ana and Artemis are fantastic hosts, nothing is too much trouble for them, always a smile on their faces. Ana and their daughter were forever offering me cups of tea, coffee, hot chocolate or juice. Artemis does port and airport pickup and dropoff and also took guests into Fira when his scheduled allowed. They have a bathroom available for guests who stay at the hotel after checkout - perfect if you want to use the pool or beach and freshen up before taking your boat or ferry.
As for the location, I guess it could be a drawback for some people. There isn't a lot to do locally. There are no bars that I am aware of. Two tavernas within 5 minutes walk, another three plus a couple of coffee shops and mini market a 15 minute walk away, as is the main part of Monolithos beach. If you don't hire your own transport then you would have to rely on Artemis for a lift into Fira or 15 min walk to the bus stop in Monolithos. I don't think the bus runs very regularly so having your own transport is a necessity if you want to be independent. With transport it is just 10 min drive into Fira. Good for families, particularly those with young children as nearby Monolithos beach is sandy and the water shallow.
There are a couple of cons, however neither really impacted on my stay:
- a drying rack for towels, swimwear on the balcony would have be handy
- small bathroom, drain a bit smelly
Summarising, this property is not luxurious however it is comfortable, offers great value for money, overlooks the sea, fantastic hosts, very clean. I will definitely return when I am next on Santorini.
