A sign of the esteem that the Owner Iraklis is held in by tour companies is that during our stay, two independent families who had booked more expensive accommodation elsewhere but were unhappy were moved to Villa Anna. Both families completed their stays here happily.
I won't bother mentioning the fact that the rooms are clean or that Iraklis is a perfect host or that the pool (always enough sunbeds) and bar areas are terrific - that's already been said in previous reviews, so here's a few bits that might help.
Stalis is perfectly positioned for exploring Heraklion, Agios Nikolaos, Spinalonga, Knossos & (if you're an inbetweener) Mahlia. The local buses and tour buses all stop right outside Villa Anna. Take Iraklis' advice, if you're going to Sponalonga, travel independently otherwise you'll be herded around like cattle and won't get enough time on the island.
During our stay Iraklis organised & negotiated a good price for us to get to the mountains & back for the feast of Maria as well as ringing for the worlds most complicated take away when 7 of us were too 'tired' to walk the 150m into town (all with really good grace as he cooks & serves good food at the poolside bar.)
The beach is fine, sandy and probably the best in the area and, although sometimes busy, never seems crowded. Its across a busy road, but there's plenty of underpasses to get you to the other side. The sea is clean & safe, though some of the breakers might catch the little ones out. There's dozens of restaurants along the main drag, many of them very good. Expect to pay around 50 euro for 2 courses for 3 people with a litre of house wine and water. Aircon (essential in summer) and a safe will set you back around 90 euro for a fortnight.
All in all, a great, relaxing holiday with enough to do if you get restless. Well done Iraklis!

We had a lovely holiday at the Villa Anna however I would just like to pass on our views and experiences in the hope that it may help someone.

We had nothing that we wished to make a complaint about however we just felt really disappointed that it didn’t live up to the glowing reviews that everyone else had posted.

Our room, which looked out over the hills, we found to be very small and we were limited for storage. We had three beds in the bedroom and the fourth bed was jammed into the tiny kitchen. The bathroom was also very small and was smelly (I think it was the shower curtain).

The first week there was hardly anyone around the pool and there was no atmosphere. I guess, as it is such a small hotel that the ‘pool life’ depends totally on the holidaymakers that are there at the time you visit, during our stay it seemed that most people spent their days elsewhere. The poolside bar was also very quiet and we didn’t see it used very much.

The hotel’s location is ok, only 5 mins walk to the beach and the start of the bars and restaurants, however there is constant traffic noise from the main road during the day if you’re by the pool.

The price of our accommodation was good, but we’ve had much better elsewhere for a similar price, and our experience was very different to others that have shared their views on the site.

I never thought I would be the kind of person who would ever return to the same location twice - however this place was so welcoming and lovely that I'm considering returning!

Iraklis, Maria and Anna Maria are a warm hospitable family. The cocktails were amazing!

The hotel itself is very clean and quiet. There is a bus stop right outside and is only a 5 mins walk to the beach. It is more family orientated which suited us as we didn't want the crazy night scene like Malia.

I recommend paying the extra for Villa Anna instead of Villa Mary. Villa Mary is about 10 mins from Villa Anna where the pool is. Also Villa Mary isn't as nice as the other and is very basic.

I already miss the place and Iraklis' chat and laughter!

We were a group of 8 young guys (from Italy) and stayed in Villa Anna for two weeks. It was really fantastic! As soon as we arrived (after a 13 hours journey!!) the owner Iraklis was extremely kind to let us rest by the pool, although it was way after its closing time.
Rooms were very nice, comfortable and had all the necessary. It was also possible to use a spacious and comfy "common area" (with tables and a grill-set) where we could eat all together.
Pool was awesome and the bar as well. Iraklis was so nice to us, he even told us we could call him in case of need (whether we needed help to come back from any place, especially Malia).
I think Stalida is a smart place to stay, because it's half-way between Malia and Hersonissos, two really good villages to spend time both at night and in the daylight. It's also in the middle of the northern coast of Crete, which is very useful if u want to rent a car and discover other spectacular beaches and seasides.
In the end, I would really recommend this to everybody who's heading to Crete!
Forza Hercules!

We stayed at the Villa Anna for one week Aug 4-11. The room with kitchenette was very adequate with fridge, hot plate, kettle, dishes and a nice quiet balcony overlooking the back garden. Originally we wanted sea view or pool view but I think they would not have been as quiet. The air con and single-size beds were great for a good night's sleep. The pristine swimming pool was refreshing after a day of touring. Owner Iraklis was very helpful with suggestions of where to sight-see and where to rent a car. Located one-hour easy bus ride from Heraklion airport to Stallis/Stalida, this place was a good central location on the north shore of Crete and had very easy highway access to tour either to the east island or west island. It was not as close to the beach as we expected and although it was an easy walking distance (15-20 minutes), it was on flat ground (no hills to climb). Billed as having "sea-view", we agreed that's a "stretch" as the view is very distant and limited. However, that didn't take away from our delightful stay! There are supermarkets and a bakery very close by. There's a nice bar pool-side at the complex that serves snacks (pizza, burgers, etc). Very clean and family oriented. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Villa Anna.
