“Just what we needed and more besides!”
Reviewed August 18, 2011

We stayed in the Dionysos as a group of two couples in Jul/Aug for 2 weeks. It was wonderful. The place is lovely. Very well kept and exceptionally clean. The facilities are very much like those you will find in most other similar apartment blocks in the Greek islands (2 cooking rings/ no oven/ small shower enclosure/ hard beds). I am always surprised by reviews on here in which people criticise these facilities. It is very much the norm in Greece unless you have a very large budget. In the case of the Dionysos, I must emphasise the finish was much more modern and well thought out than in other places I have stayed (the vanity unit with mirror, shelf and hairdryer in particular was very useful). All in all we could not fault our accommodation.
The staff I also found to be very much without fault. I refer to the bar staff, to the cleaning staff and to the owner Dimitri. Previous reviews indicate that some guests have had issues with Dimitri. He is a character, set in his ways as most people tend to be when they reach a certain age, but we found him to be very, very friendly. He gave me and my husband a bottle of wine and the four of us got hugs and kisses on our departure despite the fact we had never stayed there before. We liked him and his wife very much.
I am perplexed by the most recent review regarding issues with safe - we were told (as were the other couple we travelled with) that if we did not require use of the safe, we were to give the key back at reception NOT keep it for the duration of the holiday. This point was also raised by Vinny the Thomas Cook rep at the welcome meeting (if you want all the relevant info you should attend) so I can pretty much understand why Dimitri would ask for the payment before you left. How on earth would anyone know you didn't want to rent the safe if you kept the key and said nothing all holiday?
Anyway, I digress... We loved this place, but we know what to expect from the Greek way of doing things. If you like things laid back, like to wave "kalimera" to the locals in the morning and don't mind being without certain home comforts then you will love this kind of place. It's perfect. If you are more high maintenance, then I don't believe it's for you. I would say that about this and all similar types of Greek accomodation. I have stayed in many such places over the last 14 years. They all tend to have a similar small and friendly vibe and nearly always have the family who own the property living within the complex as well as running it.
To sum up, I am grateful we found this place. It was a gem. We had a fabulous holiday and we hope all the staff keep up the good work. I am keen to try Kefalonia or Santorini next year, but exploring an island we have not yet discovered is the only reason we would not return to the Dionysos next year. Fabulous.

Just got back from our 7th stay at these apartments. As always the apartments were kept spotlessly clean and the pool area is alway immaculate. Luke and Anna at night behind the bar and Jade and Cookie doing the food/bar during the day were great especially Cookie. Weve known Dimitris for a long time now and he is such a lovely man.. always get a brilliant welcome. The rep on site Vinny was a top bloke.. very good. The food at the apartments was lovely however we love to go to Curry Park and Korali Restaurant, both of which are within 10 mins from these apartments. All in all another fantastic holiday at these Apartments.. Roll on next year.

WE arrived at approx 3pm and were shown the room by the owner Dimitri. Pleasantly surprised how clean the apartments were and the pool is spotless, cleaned every night at 7pm. The organised events are a good idea as it gives guests a chance to get to know each other and staff too, many new friends made and Thomas and Cookie were brilliant. The only problem we had was with the owner,he never gave us a warm welcome or said goodbye, the only time he spoke to us was the day before leaving when he demanded £20 for the safe we never used and refused to pay for. Apparently this is quite common.Unfortunately our apartment was next to the reception area so we were woken up at 9am every morning by his loud voice!!! Apart from this we would stay there again and had a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Pay for your safe key on arrival or give the key back immediately to avoid charges.

just back from staying here (Dionysos 1) and it was very good, despite this I was very unhappy that we had to pay an extra 25 euro to keep the room after midday as we weren't leaving until 7.45pm and despite paying this we got kicked out at half 6 even though the next guests were not due to arrive until about 10pm. also be prepared to be made to feel like you must go to their "world famous" BBQ night on sunday for 15 euro, which we didn't attend.

Room Tip: try and get a room in Dionysos 1, not Dionysos 2.

We arrived at 3am and were greeted by 2 men Luke and Thomas, at this point we were escorted by Luke to Dionysos 2 a 2 min walk away from the main apartments(better actually, sea view) the apartment was nice and clean so it was all good, and Luke was nice friendly and chatty, "happy days" We were tired so called it a night and wanted to wake for the welcome meeting at 9am to meet the rep Vinny(he was sound too, chatty and imformative, down to earth) Also that morning we met Cookie(dry sense of humour but ab fab, i really took to her) "miss you already Cookie"x So far all was great and the weather even better, we looked into some of the excursions there was to offer and chatted with staff, we were told about evening entertainment on offer by the bar that night it was a complimentry pasta night :) which we said we would attend to mingle with other guests.
We headed off for the day to the beach(5 min walk from D2).
At the pasta evening we met Anna who also works behind the bar, very friendly chatty. also other guests great night actually, Thomas was very charming(he seemed to organise the activity evenings. So all in all we pleased with how things were, Ehm... however i want to be completely honest about our experience here just maybe even as a heads up for future holiday makers; So we needless to say enjoyed a evenings at the bar and giggled with staff(Loved the little quiz's Luke and Anna xx) also some other guests we got know "Steph and Ange" "Dan and Emma" >3 many giggles by the bar, which Thomas loved and joined in (money going behind the bar).
Friday night wii night was a good laugh and all were involved staff and guests alike we were asked by thomas about attending the bbq on Sunday which IS 15e pp with 3hrs of free wine inc, we said we may do but we had a trip booked for that day, his response was quite pushy saying that we would be back in plenty of time and it was left at that.
Saturday day we were pool side and was approached about the bbq again by thomas because of his pushy response the night before we decided to lie and say we were meeting friends in Malia so we were difinately not going to attend he responed in saying that we could bring the friends after that he didnt speak to us for the rest of the day.
Saturday night we decided to meet up with the guest mentioned above for a meal but later on we were missing luke and Anna so all decided to head back to the Bar for drinks and quiz Thomas was there but didnt really speak until we were leaving to go he said see you tommorrow for the BBQ in a blunt tone and walked away.
We never attended the BBQ on sunday and we noticed a really big difference with how Thomas was with us (uncomfortable) and decided to stay away from the pool and the bar for awhile, only to realise that the more we did that the worse Thomas was with us not even acknowledging us when we said hello or smiled at him. A week later we went to pasta night to meet new arrivals and play crazy bingo (crazy fixed bingo) we say this because the rules of the bingo are when you are playing for the full house when you get down to 3 numbers you go and sit in one area 2 numbers another area and 1 number you go and sit by the bar for your free shot but to get your free shot you have to show Thomas (the bingo caller) the number you are waiting for the week before a couple of our friends had won and we were told they won the week before that as well but had spent the winnings and more behind the bar. some new arrivals had won even though we wore waiting on 3 different numbers and 3 different cards (bingo machine is a little wire one so the caller can easly see and choose the numbers) Bare in mind its supposed to work out the more players the more in the prize pot(not the case its a fixed amout of 40e...for a full house whether its 10 player or 25...hmmm?!) we'll let you decide that one.
So we were sitting at the bar and it was 2 young girls that had one, and while collecting their winnings we over heard Thomas trying to pressure them into buying a round of drinks, they refused and were heading to Malia....ha! good girls! Thomas pretty much sulked after that. He continued to ignore us for the rest of our stay and we felt very uncomfortable when he was around, we know if we had gone to all the evenings he would have loved us, but sorry Thomas "OUR HOLIDAY, OUR CHOICES, NO PRESSURE"
We personally didnt have much to do with the owner Dimetri but heard he was very rude to some of the guests and gave inapropiate comments to so of the younger couples, he went around the apatments knocking on doors if they left the outside lights on and a guard at the poolside(luckily we were in D2 so avoided this) 2 things we can say in regards to him is the shower facitliy in the comunal bathroom had been capped off a week before we arrived(bare in mind you are to check out of your room at 12pm and we took the grave yard flight of 215am, which was fine as we were expecting to use these particular showers, as advertised in the brochure) he apparently did this so people would keep on there rooms at an extra cost of 25e, however he charged our neighbours a group of 4 young girls 40e and this is only until 6pm so was useless to those of us on the grave yard flights, Anyway we did speak to Vinny about our concerns and he did uncap 1 set of the showers(in the mens) so it came good, CHEERS VINNY X. The other issue was with the power keys that works the electics yea?! well theyre are soldered on the the keys so you cannot take them off hence no power when you leave the room, so no repellents can be left working or maybe chargers.
So all in all a nice clean and friendly place but some people need to learn about customer services.
We do wanna stress it is a nice place and with the warmth of the other staff it is a lovely place to stay, we would go back again.
GIA MAS guys NO PRESSURE :) THANK YOU
Don N Han xx

Room Tip: Remenber the owner lives on site, so poolside is nice but more hassle, from his sower face. We'd...

Before going on this holiday I read some not very good reviews about these apartments and the owner but I have to say I had an amazing holiday and all the staff were brilliant.
I stayed in Dionysos 2 with my friend, it's over the road from the main apartments and only takes a few minutes, the underpass to get to it is always lit at night which is a bonus if you are going to some of the great nightly entertainment they put on. Dionysos 2 is also on the beach side, so despite not having a pool to it's self it is easier to get to the main resort and has stunning views.
As for the owner Dimitri, he is very harmless. I can see how some people could take him the wrong way because he talks very loud but he always gave us a wave and a smile when he walked past at the pool side. We also encountered a problem(our own fault) in our room and it was sorted without any shouting or any bother.
The nightly entertainment is great, we attended the bbq, they put on great food and Thomas gave us some brilliant laughs.
I can't complain about any part of our stay at dionysos, I loved it.

We had read the mixed reviews on this property before we went and were giving this place an open mind. This is a mixed review trying to be balanced and fair based on our experiences

Swimming pool is clean and plenty of sunbeds etc. However if you are going with young children who are non swimmers take care the pool gets deep very quickly and is 10ft deep.

Dionysos I is far better than Dionysos II - The younger element in our party stayed in I which was ok as it appears to have recently been refurbished.

My wife and I stayed in II and it was disgusting. We were cleaned only once, towels/bedding changed only once that follwing complaints and the toilet leaked!! Only 1 of the cookibng rings worked and the cutlery /crockery and cooking imnpliments appears as if they have been rescued from the local rubbish tip.

The air conditioniong was of no use as it was situated by the entrance.

It is a trek from I to II and to be fair to the brochure it did say unsuitable for those with walking problems. Careful of quad bikes when coming out of the "under pass".

The owner Demitris is cranky and downright rude - didn't like me as I complained about no cleaning or fresh towels and made it to appear it was my fault!! If you want to get on with the owner you need to spend money in his bar etc. We didn't because it is expemnsive when you look at other bars you can go to.

The shop nearby is handy for things you have forgotten but is expensive when compared to those in town.

Good tips of where to eat try 9 Muses just down the road from Dionysos II - Stelios the owner is really friendly and the food is good and cheaper than most places. The reason we went was because he didn't have someone "hawking" for custom - his food does the talking for him. Also, the Indian virtualluy next door is good value as well as the Chinese in the centre of town opposite the Ice Cream shop which is also good value - particularly the Crepes.

We all enjoyed staying in Stalis as a resort but will look for alternative accomodation when we return.
