My partner and I booked Bella Vista with Olympic Holidays....... and I’m sure it’s lovely but disappointingly we didn’t get to find out as, after a 4hour delay we arrived at 6.30am to be told that Bella Vista had double booked our accommodation, along with that of 2 other couples from our same flight.

Olympic then exasperated the problem by dropping us at some extremely basic apartments situated on a busy main road, (not the mountain views I had so looked forward to). We were told that it would be sorted later in the day, however when the rep returned not only had there been no attempt to resolve the problem but we were informed we would not be moved that day as she was busy with welcome meetings (!). Only after 6 very tired and disappointed guests made a firm stand did Olympic find us a better standard of accommodation – unfortunately it was in Malia (Eeeek!).

To be fair we were offered an excursion as an apology which we accepted, (though the other couples did not), however this really can’t compensate for losing the first day of our holiday and the upset caused. We made the best of it and managed to enjoy the rest of our week, (with very long walks back into Stalis), but it certainly wasn’t the holiday we booked and paid for.

I use these reviews regularly and wouldn’t necessarily let one couple’s experience sway me, however this impacted 3 couples from one flight and Olympic made it clear that it had been happening all season, so I thought it fair to warn others that double booking is a possibility. It’s clear that Bella Vista’s relationship with Olympic is very poor and unfortunately customers are paying the price for this.

I personally wouldn’t again entrust my holiday to a hotel who accept bookings then don’t honour their word when a better price comes along. Nor to a holiday company who disappoint guests then do not feel any obligation to find alternative accommodation of a similar standard in their chosen resort until there’s tears and swear words (from the rep I hasten to add – not any of the guests!).

On a brighter note the weather was gorgeous, the Greek people lovely and the Greek food fantastic!

We booked our holiday with Olympic and they were fantastic and we flew with thomson and paid £40.00 extra each to upgrade to first class which was worth every penny! you get your own good sized tv and you can watch a selection of films, tv programmes and play various different games. You also get more room and comfier seats and it makes the flying experience go a lot quicker and more relaxing, but if you dont wanna spend an extra £40.00 on your flight then economy is still comfortable there just isn't much room to move and relax which we found out on the way home haha.

As soon as we arrived at Heraklion airport and had collected our bags the Olympic team called over our taxi driver whom immediately took my luggage and carried it for me (this is the life!). So we were then driven to Bella Vista which is situated half way up a hill/mountain and provides an amazing view of Crete's coastline and the village of Stalis! Our first port of call was of course the bar which is nicely placed next to the pool and we were immediately greeted by Maria, the owner who is very lovely and welcoming and who's aim is for her guest to feel like Bella Vista is a home from home. Maria showed us where our rooms where and they were lovely and spacious, the only problem we had which was out of Maria and her Husband Kosta's control is ants crawling through the cracks in the bedside cabinet and then setting up camp on our bed but we told Maria and the cleaner sprayed them with fly spray which killed them and deterred them from coming back for a while. I just bought some fly spray from a local supermarket in Stalis and sprayed the cabinets once in the morning and once at night and we had no problems after that.

Too get to Bella Vista you have to tackle a massive hill which really isnt what you want to be doing in 30 degree heat so we rented quad bikes from a place that is just at the beginning of the Stalis shopping area for 5 euros per a day but prices can vary depending on what size quad you get but it is still very cheap and worth every penny and the people who rent the quads out to you are really nice and friendly. Stalis is a beautiful town with lots of shops, restaurants and a lovely beach, theres always plenty to do and if you want to explore more of Crete then head over to Hersonissos which has shops and restaurants on both sides of the road for about 1-2 miles, girls its shopping heaven! But I would recommend going shopping in the evening about 6-7pm as it is a bit cooler then and easier to shop about.

Restuarants that are a must in Stalis are Kalianna and Marias Golden beach! both do amazing food and offer you different Greek dining experiences Kalianna is right next to sea front so you can enjoy.amazing views, also the staff are awesome and make you feel relaxed and welcomed. For laughs and jokes Marias golden beach is the place to be! the manager had a few sayings to keep you entertained such as 'bloody nora' 'lovely jubbly' 'hello mike' and 'lovely story'. If your a meat lover then the gammon is a must!

Excursions that I would recommend are the Jeep safari which takes you right up to the tops of the mountains of Crete, so if your not a fan of crazy heights dont do it! we paid 75 euros which is a lot of money but your taken out for a whole day and it includes a Greek salad, unlimited water and wine and you choose from a selection of what you want for a main meal and it really is very tasty. You experience sights you will probably never see again, breath taking views and you gain a lot of knowledge about Greece, its history and culture.
We also went to water city which was really good and has some amazing rides, really good family day out!. The other excursion we did was Greek night where you do Greek dancing, enjoy Greek food and wine and really get to know Greek people and their culture.

This was an amazing holiday which allows all different people to find something they love to do all in one place! I mustn't forget to mention the awesome Rale and Aleksandra who work the bar and cook the food and generally cater for your needs at Bella Vista, they became more like friends then people that were serving us and they really do make your holiday that more enjoyable!.

After I have explored the world a bit more I will definitely be making a return to Bella Vista in Stalis.

Our second visit to Bella Vista and will certainly be going again. Maria and Kosta are always so welcoming and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Food is amazing and always available. Rale and Aleksandra work the bar and keep everyone happy, entertained, fed and watered.
Love this place, great for party time or peaceful relaxation.
Thanks for looking after us.
See you all next year.

Room Tip: Hire quads from the locals at a really good rate. Great fun and a good way of getting out and about...

Just got back from a week at the Bella Vista. It is a really nice place to stay, we liked it especially because it was secluded and quiet with amazing views across Stalis and Malia which made it really relaxing. Apartment was clean, bathroom and bedroom were great, the only thing we thought is that there wasn't enough in the kitchen to be able to make a nice meal (just a portable hob and a kettle and a frying pan) which was quite a let down considering we booked self catering. The other thing that let us down was that we had to check out our room at 12 midday, having been told we would be given a hold room for our luggage and to have a shower before our flight.. which wasn't till 3am. But we didn't and had to leave our luggage outside all day and get changed outside.
Other than that though, it's an amazing place to stay, the bar serves quite cheap and nice quality food and drinks, the pool is great and the views are stunning! We rented a quad bike because of the hill, and it made it so much easier, although dont be put off by the hill if you dont want to get a quad or a car because it IS manageable - just very tiring!

Just got back from a week at the Bella Vista and had a lovely time. Quiet apartments with an amazing view. Maria and Kosta the owners were there to greet us on our arrival and we were made to feel at home straightaway by Rale behind the bar. Apartment had everything you need for a self catering week away. Pool was quiet most days with plenty of sunbeds even though the hotel was full ( only 29 rooms so some days we had the pool to ourselves) Also a good size pool considering the small number of rooms. Yes the hill is a bit of a long slow climb but only took 20 minutes to walk from the centre of Stalis or Taxis only 7-10 Euros depending on the time of day/night. The view and quiet location are worth the climb. Stalis is a lovely resort with nice bars and restaurants but quiet for a nice relaxing getaway. For a livelier night Hersonissos and Malia are only ten minutes away by bus/Taxi. Will definitely be going back and wouldn't hesitate to book Bella Vista again.

Had a great two weeks with our 3 young daughters. The staff are lovely and the owners are very friendly and go out of their way to be make sure you are looked after. Rooms are cleaned every other day and the apartments are in a quiet area with lovely sea views. Be prepared to walk up and down the hill to the beach. We quite liked the exercise after all the eating and drinking. We met some lovely, friendly people from different nationalities! I would definitely recommend.
