“September holiday at the Bella Vista.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2012

We stayed for a week in September and had a lovely time at the Bella Vista .Our room was spacious and spotless and clean with amazing views. We had two balconys and a roof terrace .
The proprietors Maria and Costas were very friendly without being intrusive and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Barta the barman was a character and also very helpful.
We had a quad to get up and down the hill .
Very peaceful and relaxing.
What a gem of a place ,hope to return in the future

Room Tip: We had a high room but they all all have views

Loved the fact that the pictures we had seen prior to arriving at Bella Vista were a true representation of the apartments and general location, which was gorgeous. Set in the hills it gave for an amazing view. This also contributed to a lovely breeze to help keep cool. Lovely friendly owners and felt a true sense of Greek culture. Although the holiday makers where all British with no Greek families staying there, as far as was aware. Food was basic but was a welcome treat when feeling 'peckish' without the difficult walk up and down the hill side. We would stay again as the rooms where really clean with gorgeous fresh bedding and towels (white).

Room Tip: Try to get a room lower down as there are rather a lot of stairs, great for burning the calories tho...

Having decided on a late deal we managed to book this hotel just two weeks before hand! Looking at other places we decided on this one purely because of its location. Having been to stalida before we knew the area well and where to find all the good tavernas! The Hill affectionately known as 'cardiac hill' is not so much upright steep but its the gradient it works on! Being a relatively fit couple in our forties even we found it hard! Then there are the apartments themselves more steps and yes quite a few depending on your apt number!
This location is definitely not for those who find it hard to manage steps or stairs of any kind, the views are amazing but you do have to work for them!!(do not be mislead.)

We were met at the hotel by maria who waits up for all her guests and given our keys after discussing how a high floor we wanted! went for the middle not quite realising how far up it was!
Our room was fine had most of what we wanted, fridge kettle, (toaster & coffee percolator as well) bed and balcony, two in fact one more of a terrace style at the front and a private one at the back.
The bed was a double which is something we're not used to in Greece! Always had twin beds no matter which island we've been to and very comfy it was! The bathroom however let all this down, the toilet was fine along with the sink, but try & get in the shower!! Ok,, here goes, left foot over the toilet, then place right foot in cubicle whilst holding onto the wall with spare hand then bring left foot into shower tray whilst bumping hands sides & anything else you care to imagine! I am only 5ft 4ins tall & size 12 I struggled but hubby is over 6ft tall and very broad shouldered! although the facilities are clean and modern compared to some places we've stayed, the bathroom was a big disappointment!
As it was only for a week we stuck it out, had it been two weeks I would have asked to be moved!
The maid service was also hit & miss with bins emptied every other day. I don't mind emptying my own bin on holiday, I do it at home but with the Greek plumbing system this really should be done every day.although this is stated, the sheets & towels were replaced once during our week which is fine but its the sweeping of floor and mopping that wasn't good, after my hard fought shower I had to wear something on my feet or they'd be black in nano seconds!
Maybe if they hired another cleaner to help instead of using just the one lass it might help!
We found maria to be polite but not overly friendly, although more of the latter was shown towards guests who were staying longer than a week! Kostas was also polite whenever we saw him.

However for us It is the two barmen who make this place, The day barman (never did get his name) is brilliant and a fab cook! Always a smile on his face and likes to have a joke! The other barman well what can i say about 'Barta', (hope I got the name right!) he is without doubt one of the most friendliest generous and nicest guys we have ever met on our travels. He even carried my holdall (quite heavy) all the way up those steps to our room on the first night bless him! (he was in need of oxygen by the time he got there but he is ok now!!)
These two make this place virtually running around everyone to make sure all the guests are looked after.
They work long hours with a smile on their face. However one night Kosta did come out to the bar area and tell us all to shut up & go to bed as we were keeping him up! not what I expect on me holibobs when putting money over the bar day & night!
Would we return? yes to stalida in a heartbeat we luv it here as much as we did 7 years ago, although expanded quite abit since then. The Bella, maybe if the bathrooms were updated and the owners realise that there is more potential for this place then at present.
No drying racks on balcony, mesh mosquito nets torn & not working on back windows, no drainer board, sun loungers need replacing, no light halfway down the steps making this dangerous at night. The shutters had no catches at the front of our apt, so you had to watch your head!
we found out that there are three apts where the bathrooms are not up to standard, rooms 404 301 and finally 303 our Room. (so try & avoid!)
We had a fab relaxing week, met some lovely people at the hotel & other places, best bars are Edem bar & Nemos, but for two weeks would stay closer in the village, couldn't manage that hill for two!! Go & enjoy and say 'kalispera' to barta the Hidden gem of the Bella Vista ;-).

Room Tip: High floors do have amazing views but are hard work with those 'steps.' 120 to ours from the...

Went 1st 2 weeks of July 2012 .Will read pretty much the same as anyone else.....great clean modern apartments (some of the best ive stayed in in Greece) , a steepish hike but worth the walk back up the hill for the view. Very quiet, lovely staff and owners. Marias Moussaka is to die for !!! and next year hopefully they will start stocking multipacks of water save ppl carrying them all the way back up the hill in the heat.
Would I go back ? yes defiantley ! Would not recommend people with any mobility problems to book here as some rooms keep climbing up the side of the mountain ...but as they say , higher you go better the view !

We hired cheap buggies for a few days and used it to get up n down the hill easily and restock our fridge. Hired a jeep for a few days got about the island loads ! beautiful scenery. a crazy night with the kids in Malia is a must do too.
Restaurants in Stalis are FAB ! Marias is the best greek plate ! had some gorgeous fish from other restaurants too .

Unfortunatley i had to visit the medical centre in Stalis after having an accident....brilliant Doctors and staff , well looked after , but have got good insurance. All the locals are brilliant fun so kind and welcoming, they are in desperate need of your custom as the all inclusive outfits are ruining their livelyhoods.

Had a lovely holiday at the Bella Vista in August. The hillside location had fantastic views ( well worth the climb) The room was spotless and regularly cleaned throughout the fortnight. Spent a lot of time in and around the pool and adjacent bar which served great food and was also very clean and inviting. Stallis was just a short stroll away and had a fine sandy beach and a good choice of restaurants/bars. Thank you to Maria and all her staff for making this a fabulous holiday and one we are keen to repeat very soon.

Not much to add that hasn't already been said! The view from the apartments are wonderful and the location is spot on for those looking for a relaxing break but reasonably close to the tavernas and the beach in Stalis . Based on the comments on here we asked for a room at the top (got 404 - second from the top!) but to be honest, I think all the rooms on the steps had a great view. We had extraordinarily hot weather so the steps were tough going but not undoable and the road to and from Stalis isn't actually that bad - it takes approx 15 mins. To be honest, if it had been a few degrees cooler it would have been a pleasant walk. We will probably get a car next time to get around a bit more. There's a really relaxing, easy going vibe about the place - the rep, Ash, would come over on his day off! Maria and co were very friendly but not intrusive and I think that rubbed off on the guests; a great mix of old, young, families, couples, groups and singles but no one trying to get in your business which is a real pet hate of mine on package holidays. The maid service was superb, she worked so hard. Yes, there were some ants (it was HOT) but a single mention to Maria and it was sorted. We brought some ant stop from the UK and that was more than enough. We paid extra for a one bed apt and it was very spacious. The kitchen is sufficient for our needs and plenty of utensils. The bathroom was fine for 2 of us but I think it would have been a tad small for 3-4 people. My quite tall husband found the space between the toilet and shower a bit tight but nothing to grumble about. Air conditioning and safe deposit box costs were very reasonable and certainly cheaper than other places we've stayed in Greece. There is a flat screen TV in the rooms but the signal isn't great - sound fine but poor picture - but if you're planning on watching a lot of TV then I'd rethink your travel plans!!! The pool area was clean and got plenty of sun and a nice breeze all day - the pool is deep though. Lunch food was good - salads, etc and reasonably priced. We didn't eat there at night but several guests did every night and they were very complementary. Both barmen were really friendly and it didn't feel put on. We didn't spend a lot of time at the bar and both were as lovely to us as they were to those who stayed around the apartments a lot. There are plenty of nice places to eat in Stalis - we didn't have a bad meal the whole time we were there. We would recommend but I fear as more people hear about this place, the harder it will be to get such a good deal again!!

If star ratings were awarded for hospitality alone then the Bella Vista would surely be a 5*
The location is wonderful & views amazing. In my opinion this is the ideal spot for being near enough to the beach, bars & restaurants, yet far enough away to enjoy a peaceful break away.

The beach is about a 15 minute walk, but if you're not one for enjoying a stroll then there are no shortage of quads to rent at very reasonable prices. I stayed in apartment 305, which was at the top- fantastic views! I'm in my ealy 30's, not particularly active & didnt find the stairs a problem, but if you do prefer to avoid then a choice of a high or low apartment is given when checking in & even the rooms lower down have great views.

There was a real mix of young, old, couples, singles, & families, staying at the Bella Vista, all who shared something in common- being friendly & respectful. Normally quite shy, not once did I feel awkward during my stay. A real credit to Maria & her team for creating such a warm & friendly environment!!!

If I had to pick fault then yes the bathrooms are a little small & the entrance to the shower a bit awkward, but this is hardly a major problem! The hotel, pool & rooms are clean and tidy, the food is good & very reasonably priced. I've never stayed anywhere before where they have taken such genuine pleasure in trying to make sure you enjoy your stay with them. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Bella Vista!

Room Tip: * Higher floors have the best views & are quieter as further from the road (not a busy road thou...
