Very good place to stay. We stay in the apartment with a view on the swimmingpool and the bar, it was very cosy.
The beds are very, very good, not to hard. every day they clean the room.
The barman Kostas is amiable. (play good music) The owner and the rest of the staff also are very friendly. Absolutely the best place i ever stay in Stalis.
The location is two minutes from the beach and shops.
all of it for a very good price we enjoyed to stay at Latnia and sure go back to that location

Stalis is one of our favourite holiday destinations. These apartments are run by Manos who is a terrific host. The rooms are kept very clean...serviced daily with fresh linen and towels every other day.Manos and his family really give you a great holiday. The food is good, the prices are reasonable and nothing is too much trouble. Adequate numbers of sunbeds, umbrellas and shades around the pool. The beach is right across the road although we preferred to walk an extra 400 yards to the main beach. Beach Road is made up of restaurants, bars and gift shops, you could eat in a different restaurant every day for a fortnight within a small radius radius, although like us you will find your favourites and go back for more.
We have stayed in Stalis before but were really pleased with our choice and will be happy to return to Latania Apartments again. We had a large, well equipped apartment with a a large balcony overlooking the Med.
I cannot recommend a holiday more highly.

Just come back from the Latania yesterday after spending 10 days there. I went with my wife and met up with other family members whilst there. On the night I arrived I was met by Manos (General Manager) who is one of the most helpful people I have met. I have read reviews saying he is grumpy....Absolute rubbish. I found him to have a dry sense of humour and extremely hard working. He was working at the bar every day before I woke up (even at 8.00am) and was still there in the not so early hours. He did this every single day.
You could have a conversation with him about most things and his English is extremely good.
I asked for a studio which is supposed to sleep from 2 to 5 people. There were two rooms plus the bathroom. The bedroom had a double bed (Queen size) and a single bed, the living area had a further 2 beds with a dining table. The kitchenette was well equipped with a kettle, toaster, coffee percolator, 2 electric rings and plenty of cups, saucers, plates and cutlery. I must admit that the room was one of the biggest I have seen in Greece. The hotel itself was fairly quiet, but this may be due to the fact we went from the 16/9/12 until 26/9/12 and kids are back at school. There is a playground at the side of the hotel for small children, if they are there.
The pool is an adequate size for the hotel and was clean, plenty of sunbeds and a nice chilled out atmosphere. If you wanted advice either Tim or Manos would be more than willing to help and point you in the right direction.
There is food available at the hotel, which Manos cooks. The quality of the food is good and quite good value for money.
The bathroom in the rooms is a proper bathroom with a bath and a shower which is powerful enough to put out a forest fire. I saw that somebody said the bath was slippery, personally I didn't find that as the base of the bath did appear to have a non slip surface. Maybe the lady's husband was just unfortunate?
The beach is about 50 metres from the hotel and was mostly sandy with a few rocks. My brother and I went snorkleing in the sea and thouroughly enjoyed it. On the beach is also a watersports centre for those of a more energetic nature.
Around Stalis are more restaurants than you can count. As is usual some are better than others. Kaliana which is close to the hotel is very good quality and the portions are large. One other that is really worth a mention is Marias Golden Beach....very very good but a bit of a trek towards Hersonisos. Probably about a 3/4 mile walk.
Regarding the weather the first day we got there it rained (heavy) and from then on it was dry and sunny. The temperature was about 30 - 32C in the daytime and dropping to the mid 20s in the evening/night.
If the mark of a good experience is a positive answer to the question " Would I go back" then the answer is a definate yes. Nice people good rooms and a very friendly experience.

Stayed at Latania Studios 4-18 Sept 12. Really lovely place, just off the main road and only few minutes from the sea.
Tim on reception was very efficient, very helpful going over and above his duties many times for us. He worked EVERY day from 10am to 8pm. A real asset to the hotel.
Our room was adequate, the lighting very nice. A lovely comfortable bed [4’ 6”] and pillows although bed squeaked, it's the slats under the mattress.
My husband slipped in the bath whilst having a shower, landing on the tiled floor, hurting his back and necessating a trip to Malia Medical Centre. There was no rubber bath mat or sticky surface in bath. (Malia Medical Centre is private and does not take the European E111 card).
For the first time we took a Cash Passport card, but not many places accepted this, also not at Latania. We therefore took €150 out of ATM (opp hotel) but it gave 3 €50 notes which are not really acceptable for a bus ride. Decided to change them in a bank but no bank in Stalis so had to go to Malia. Also we found a wallet in the road but no Police Station in Stalis, nearest Hersonissos. As it was the day we were going home I had to leave it in Tim’s capable hands, he rang the Police Station and they asked him to take it there – sorry Tim.
The nearest supermarket, opposite hotel to the left was the cheapest we found and the people very nice.
We paid for fan which was a necessity. Also paid to keep room on after 12 midday kick out, €5 per hour.
SOL – our rep from Iceland was nice but didn't seem to know that much. She did do a medical report for us to help with claim for medical insurance. MONARCH/COSMOS didn't have any actual trips on the table for us to look at although SOL told us about them but we couldn't look back on them after she had gone. We did book the ½ day trip to the Mountain Villages and I would really recommend it, you see things that you wouldn't be able to see on your own. It did take an hour to collect everyone from their hotels though, the same coming back so the ½ day was from 8am – 3pm! €31 each. The day we went started with heavy rain, big puddles in road. It soon cleared on journey through to the inner mountains. Stopped for cheese and honey with coffee. Saw Raki being made. Went into a 200 yr house, looked at village, all very quaint. Stopped again for olives, melon? Raki, went to a museum which was like another old village. Had dumplings with honey and sesame seeds and glass of water. Loved it all.
You can get a bus – one way to Malia – the other to Heraklion. To Malia you have to cross the road, also buses from that side go to Agios Nikolaos which was a lovely place. The bus stop is at the top of the road opposite where the Little Train stops.
Knossos restaurant next door was very good, saw the waiter lift a table with his teeth.
Went to Curry Park, nice Indian man and authentic food.
Went on the Happy Train 1½ hours €10 each. Went to Hersonissos, Malia and Stalis. It was really nice, saw an agriculture part, plus archaeological site. Spoke to Maria (who run it) – at length, she said to ask her anything. We were her ‘sweetie pies’- like everyone else!
Had Gyros for lunch at Lambros, view to die for overlooking sea/mountains.
Had full English €4 each at Rovers Return, didn't go much on it but lovely views whilst eating.
Went to AMICI’s Italian restaurant (turn left from hotel), we both had pork in gorgonzola cheese which was gorgeous.
We tried buying various breads in the supermarkets but none was that nice, very light.
Went to KOSTOS for Greek Night (you have to book and can choose your table)– what a fabulous show, fantastic time, main man so nice, waitress (looked like Ruby Wax) lovely man on door and all for €20 which was for 2 meals and 2 drinks, entertainment free. Dancing, singing good, no plate smashing though.
We tried a Family run Taverna up one of the side roads, where we’d ordered 24 hours before a Kleftico. Think called Kalernas! or similar! It was €12.50 which was much more than other restaurants and wasn’t that nice at all.
Got bus to Malia. Walked looking for beach, despite following signs to beach, never did find it after an hour so retraced our steps, had a drink outside a bar in the shade as so so hot, had iced tea, served by English woman. Got bus back, they are very strict on the buses, shouted at my husband to put a vest on, then they say sit here, sit there, you get off here etc etc.
The whole time we were there it was between 30-35° with only a small breeze when by the sea.
Maria Golden Heart – would really recommend - turn left and is right at end of Stalis – 15 min walk does plate smashing/Greek dancing. My husband had fillet steak – gorgeous, I had the fish plate, sole, sword fish, big prawns, mussels etc with roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower all cooked to perfection, with 2 drinks came to €35 plus we had free RAKI – OUZO. No plate smashing on the Sunday that we went.
All restaurants give either either pudding or fruit + Ouzo, Raki or Peach Schnapps after dinner. Also some places give you a jug of it as well !!
Got bus to Heraklion (the capital), as wanted to go to the market (Saturdays) which we understood was a short walk from bus station but decided to wait for the ‘MARKET’ bus which was just as well because it was such a long way, too far to walk but Sol seemed to think it wasn’t far. Got a return. Market not that good, mostly fruit/veg, few cheapy clothes all in a heap. Bus from Heraklion cost €1.10 each, each way but well worth it, it's the blue/white bus and has a board saying ‘MARKET’ in the front.
From Heraklion bus station you can get buses to go the whole length of Crete.
When arriving at the airport the Plane pulls up sharp on the runway or else you’d end up in the sea.
Heraklion airport was quite manic when we were leaving. Drinks very expensive.

Room Tip: Ask for balcony view of your choice, i.e. mountains, pool etc.

Our second visit to Latania apartments and once again we had a perfect holiday. The apartments are centrally located but still very quiet, always clean, beautiful fresh linen and helpful staff. Tim was vey helpful, Manos is an excellent host and his BBQ's are excellent. All the staff are welcoming and friendly. An array of restuarants are just minutes away. Our favourite is 'Creta by the Sea' followed by 'Knossoss', 'Artemis', 'Anatolia' and 'Lambros'. A day on the beach in front of 'Coco's Pub' is not to be missed. 6 euros for sunbeds and umbrella with free lunch and regular tots of Raki from the very helpful nutty barstaff. A trip up the mountain to Mochos on the HappyRoad Train is recommended. The village is beautiful and the 'Lithos Taverna' run by Nicholas is a must. Great food and very friendly. We will be back again next year. Thank you to all at Latania. Eleanor & Steve, Cumbria

We booked Latania apartments on the back of reviews on here and recommendations on the forum. I’m glad to say we weren’t disappointed.

The apartments location is fantastic just off the beach road through the resort. Our party had a one bedroom apartment at the back of the complex and a studio in an annex slightly away from the main block, neither of which experienced any late night noise from the bars and restaurants close by. The accommodation is fairly basic (although you are provided with a microwave and flat screen tv which is not always the case in Greece). Our rooms were kept clean and tidy by the maids who do a good job and who were always friendly and polite laughing and joking with our two 10 month old girls.

The pool is a decent size with a small childrens section. We never struggled to get sunbeds regardless of the time, although if you want to be in the sun all day you will have to do a bit of manoeuvering about! The poolside bar was relatively cheap and sold basic snacks, drinks and ice-creams. Manos who runs the bar was very friendly and accommodating and really made our stay a good one as did Tim on reception who was very helpful. Both were really nice fellas and the owners of Latania are lucky to have them working for them. Special thanks to both Manos and Tim for their assistance in locating our missing cases that we had left on the coach on arrival!

The apartments have a small childrens play area with swings, slide, see-saw and roundabout,. This is located over a small road at the side of the apartments. The nearest beach is no more than a minutes walk away although we tended to walk for about 5 minutes in the direction of Hersonnissos where the sunbeds were free provided that you ate and drank at the restaurants that owned them. We would highly recommend Dianomeas and the Royal Oak.

Overall we really enjoyed Stalis as a resort and found it to be cheap compared to Majorca which we had visited earlier in the year. There are many great restaurants the best of which was Hellas Taverna about a fifteen minute walk away from the apartments. We don’t tend to return to the same resort until a few years down the line but would certainly recommend Latania to others and if we’re ever in Stalis again I would definitely look to stay here once more. From reading the guestbook on departure I don’t think we’re the only ones!

Yes, we've been back for our 6th visit in three years!! We usually tend to go to different places for our holidays each year, but we keep being drawn back to Crete and especially to the Latania Apartments. We've never been disappointed and can thorougly recommend it to anyone. The apartments are kept clean every day. The facilities in the apartments are the best we've ever seen in any self-catering apartments that we have been to over the years and this year we even had a TV!! Not that we watched it very much. Too much getting out and seeing the sunshine, after the appalling summer we've had so far. Again, the staff were excellent. Tim in reception. Manos who runs the bar. Stelios and Litse the owners. Anna and Tana the cleaners. All brilliant.

Also this year we met up with couples there who we met last year as well, and we all agreed that there's something about the place that keeps bringing us back!!

The local tavernas are all excellent. We like going to a different one every night, but can recommend Creta by the Sea, Lambros, El Greco, and a new one for us this year was Curry Park, which used to be an English pub. Lovely food there. I had Chinese curry and my other half had Indian!! Both delicious. But, having said that, we've not had a bad meal in Stalis in all the years we've been going there.

We'll definitely be returning next year.

So if you want a lovely holiday by the sea, go to Stalis in Crete and especially Latania Apartments. Can't be faulted!!

Room Tip: We usually ask for room 208, but we understand all the rooms are good.
