We stopped here for a light lunch after walking from Paleochora. We were early but made to feel welcome and we enjoyed our food and coffee. We had never had fennel pie before but we did have it elsewhere on other occasions. This taverna was too far to walk to in the evenings so we never did revisit, and that was our misfortune.

I advise you to go in this restaurant. We ordered a complete menu with 10/15 different dishes.
A menu costs 30 euros for two people....

Go and taste everything....

We've eaten at this taverna a few times over the past 2 years and have always had an excellent experience here. The family is very friendly and welcoming and the service throughout the evening has been excellent. The food is also outstandingly good - genuine local cuisine of high quality ingredients. The house wine is also very good as is the raki they serve at the end of the meal. It's a great place to eat if you go there as a group because you can order many dishes and share them around as the Greek people do when they eat at a taverna. Similarly it's good just as a couple and tbey have no problem if you only order a very small amount of food; the service is no different and always good.

I cannot recognise anything that fits with this taverna in what the reviewer below has written about poor service, bad quality wine and the owners insisting they order a plate each. We have never experienced anything along these lines when eating here.

Authentic cuisine, wide choice of locally sourced ingredients. Good local wine (no hangover!). Convivial hosts Mano and Spirandula make you feel at ease and very welcome. Forget the menu, go straight to the superb kitchen to view the day's specialities. Been coming for over 20 years and without doubt the best on the island (even seen the ex-president of Greece there).

We are coming since mor than 10 years to this little town and
we have tried a lot of restaurants.
Most of them are mediocre !

Grameno restaurant is in our opinion one of the best addresses to enjoy excellent authentic Cretan food
Located only 5 km from Paleohora.
It has a very nice garden.
