“Friendly and good food”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

We ate here three times and each time enjoyed the friendly welcome from Maria and her family. She was able to recommend her dishes of the day. The food was very good. We will definitely return.

“Very fishy”
Reviewed August 21, 2013

Since finding Maria’s restaurant we've eaten there time and time again and also recommended it to many our Paleochora friends who have also adopted it as their restaurant of choice. We've both eaten fish there on many occasions and have always been invited inside to choose our fish, which has always been fresh. We've never been disappointed in the fish that Maria has cooked for us. The statement made by the reviewer below is just not true; she doesn't serve frozen fish and she doesn't have frozen fish delivered, by car or van or any other means, as he claims in his review.

Maria is always very attentive towards her customers and takes all the orders herself. She welcomes her customers into her kitchen (which is always spotlessly clean) to enable her to describe her day’s choices and if you are around during the morning you can find Maria in her kitchen cooking the day’s delights. Again she will welcome you inside to watch her (I've watched her cooking several times and have always been very impressed seeing her work and her high standards of hygiene in the kitchen). We've also noticed that Maria always makes a point of asking every customer if they enjoyed their meal and whether there were any problems.

The only problem we ever have is that her portion sizes are massive and we always arrive home with some extra kilos as her food is just too good to leave so we always finish every delicious morsel as it’s always just too good to leave. Maria is a very talented cook and the praise she receives over and over again from her many satisfied customers is well deserved. Thank you Maria and family for making our evenings in Paleochora such a joy.

A MUST IN PALEOCHORA.We went in based on Trip Advisor The food was absolutely amazing! We stayed in Paleochora 5 days and we went back over and over because the service and food were awesome. The owner Maria was really kind and she gave us suggestions of what to eat.She suggested fresh fish from the day. We choose by our selfs inside from the kitchen.(They were fresh and very good cooked). We relished special the lobster which we chose it and it was alive. Maria, her husband and their daughters ( it is a family restaurant) make us feel welcome.Congratulations!

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed August 19, 2013 via mobile

After reading reviews on trip advisor, we decided to seek out this taverna. We were very disappointed! The mushrooms we ordered were inedible, bitter and tough so they were left on the plate. The main courses were small and only average quality, and the service was poor.
We reside on Crete for most of the year and eat out regularly. This meal came nowhere near the standard we have come to expect from good Cretan food.

“Simply superb”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

We've been to Paleochora before. We didn't find this restaurant then - what a mistake we made. We found it this time on our last night there. It's sort of right at the end of the promenade walking out from the centre. We dithered about whether to go in. This or next door? Went here and received a warm welcome. Through the meal we recognised how efficiently and friendly the service is. Everyone helpful but everyone with their role. Maria took our order. I wasn't sure which dish I fancied most so I chose a selection of Greek food - inspired decision as everything on the plate was perfect - and I've eaten a lot of authentic Greek food. It was a pleasant struggle to finish it. My wife also enjoyed her food having chosen it with Maria's assistance and description. By the end of our meal the restaurant was packed, with several repeat visits from people - a good sign. Oh and it was good value as well. We'll visit here first next time we come here!
