My wife and I spent 10 days in this hotel and I can honestly say that we have really enjoyed our time.
Our first impression was poor though. When we arrived we were given a room which was located in the main central building. We had a standard double room with the sea view reserved and did not expected it to be luxury or what's or ever, but when you see hair in the bathroom from previous guest or you notice some dust on the furniture then you understand that something is not quite right. Then we invited the housekeeper to explain and to find a solution to the occurred issue and she quickly managed to clean the room (though we did not receive an explanation about why this happened and was that way, I assume this was because of her language barrier). We did not like the room still because of its location, I assume that happened because of the strange smell in the corridor on the way to the room, this smell reminds of an hospital (not leaving an impression of a 5-star hotel). So we asked the front office manager to change our room the next morning and right after that we were given a fantastic room in the right section of the hotel, closer to the sea. Then things changed and we got the feeling that we ARE in a 5-star hotel and felt like home. The room has everything you need. Keep in mind that if you want to get towels for the beach of use the safebox in the room then you have to make a deposit (as I rememeber one towel was around 40 eur, and i did not use the safe box).
Watch out is you are going there in the hottest months because it will get really hot in the room and if you leave the conditioner working for the night you might catch a cold.
Food and drinks:
The food was very good. We wanted to try something "local" and we did have that chance in the hotel. Apart from local kitchen, they also offer international kitchen (pastas and etc.). We are fully satisfied with the food service in Mitsis, though if you are looking for something closer to the service of Rixes, then this will not be it. But for Greece level this is very good.
Nothing much to say about non-alcoholic drinks. If you prefer fresh juices the probably Rinela is not the place for it, they mix water with syrups and you get that "chemical taste", so this is why i did not drink them. Coffee/Tee is fine, nothing special but FINE(though I am not a coffee lover). The main thing you might like to drink alot there is water and this might be a problem if you ask that at the bar or the restaurant. The water has a strange taste like it was taken from the tap, you dont feel it though if you take sparkling water and put a slice of lemon inside. But I always bought water outside of the hotel (a 6-pack for like 1.5 eur).
Alcoholic drinks are not branded in this hotel. You will see bottles you have not seen before. Nothing dangerous though but the taste is different, aspecially the spirits. If you like Gin-tonic etc then belive me you will not like what they have. In Greece you can find really great sorts of wine, but not in this hotel. The house wine that they serve is no good. Well, if you drink it for like 2 days in a row you will probably get used to it really fast (same as I did). The coctails they mix in the bar are fine, way better then Gin-tonic, but again you need to taste to understand whats is good for you.
On the whole I feel really good about the service and I had the feeling that people care for our needs. People are polite and they are willing to help (most of them). The reception guys are doing a fantastic job. Big thanks to Elena and Svetlana!
Have to mention that the animation team are very fantastic guys. They are really friendly, helpful and of course funny! The shows in the hotel are of course more children oriented, but still a place where you can spend time in the evenings if you are not planning to go our.
Also not to forget the outdoor loby bar. They had live musicians plays beautiful music(pop, retro and also traditional) so this is a good place to also spend your time.
They have their own beach area. No meduzas or other living creatures that you can encounter under the water that might ruin your vacation. Cristal water, bar on the bear, and also some additional entrainment like water bananas etc.(for additional cost).
The have bars everywhere, which is really good because you dont have to walk far in order to get a drink or a snack. Very comfortable way of service even though the territory of the hotel itself is not that big.
A lot of places near the hotel like car rental, supermarkets, tourist information/tours, tavernas and restaurants. Also very easy to get a bus to basically anywhere you like. You can buy tickets at the reception.
If i'd had a chance to visit this hotel again I would definitely come back!
Crete was great and even more, it is great to sleep in a room where you feel like home.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to everybody.
Thank you Rinela for making my vacation on Crete a time to remember! Efgaristo to everybody!!!
