Mitsis Rinela Beach Resort & Spa
Ranked #1 of 13 Hotels in Kokkini Hani
Reviewed October 20, 2012

My family and I stayed at Mitsis Rinela Hotel in the end of August.
To begin with..the hotel is situated 15 minutes away from the airport which is very convenient and we haven't heard any noise from airplanes at all. We were the first to step out of the bus, no long 2-hour trips.
The hotel has a big territory which reminds of a traditional Crete village. It is very cosy, bright with numerous flowers, palm trees and cypresses.
Our family room was spacious enough for 4 people and the rooms are separated from each other which is very convenient when you are already 18 traveling with your folks;) The room was neat, bathroom very clean, we had no complaints during the whole stay. The mini-bar was being filled everyday with water, beer, soda. We had a basket of fresh fruits everyday as well!
As for us, the food was perfect- fresh salads, authentic Greek cheeses, feta, olives, a big variety of grilled vegetables, meat, fish, sausages, italian food, fresh fruits as melons, peaches, plums, bananas, apples, watermelons, etc and of course fantastically tasty desserts! For us breakfast was the most enjoyable meal during the day because of fresh everyday baked hot pancakes, pastry, jams, cottage cheese, yogurts, etc. Coffee was strong enough in the morning and in the afternoon we enjoyed our coffee on an open-air terraсe with a sea view or at the swimming pool snack bar. By the way, there is a variety of snacks near the swimming pool and drinks and ice cream on the beach.
There are two large swimming pools with a kids zone and absolutely stunning sand beach with a crystal-clear water.
The staff is very very friendly, the manager of the main restaurant Yannis always remembered what we would like to drink and the manager of the Taverna (which is less crowdy and more spacious) - Nicholas welcomed every guest as his old friend.
Special thanks from our family to the Manager of the hotel- Liaros Panayiotis for his hospitality, friendliness and highly professional qualities!!

Family of Dmitry Feoktistov.

My boyfriend and I have just come back from a week's holiday at the Mitsis Rinela 08/10-15/10. We arrived with some trepidation due to the mixed reviews we had read.

To start off...the hotel itself is quite nice. Beautiful views and our room and bathroom were spotlessly clean, it was great to have a balcony- although I am glad we were on the second floor of our 'block' as the ground floors and bungalows seems a bit goldfishbowly.
Sunbathing at the pool with a beer we were pretty happy with ourselves..UNTIL.. we ate in the main restaurant that evening and had some drinks on the main terrace before. The drinks we felt, personally, were absolutely undrinkable. I was offered a rose wine which was red wine in a bottle topped up with water. Beer was pretty much the only thing on the cards for us, until we went and bought nice Greek wine from the shop to have on our balcony. The food is absolutely disgusting, we made the effort to try things but most of it was worse than school dinner level. The main restaurant, as one other reviewer described it, is a complete scrum where people push you out of the way to pile up their plates- I don't know why, we could barely manage a mouthful of anything except the pasta and some salads.
The main restaurant is also overrun by cats and my boyfriend found this out the hard way when at breakfast he stepped in cat poop. A lovely start to the morning! Thankfully, the grumpiest and most unwilling waitress in the world was there to grudgingly move us to another table.
The taverna and Chinese ARE better, but only in the fact it isn't as crowded and there were a few relatively edible dishes. So if you are going make sure to book for these.
Pool area was great and the animation team were a source of amusement to us, but it did get annoying being pestered to join in every 5 minutes- however after a few days I think they got the jist we werent interested and left us to our own devices.
We ventured out to get a decent meal and we found a great taverna called To Kima in Kokkini Hani. Mr.George, Snoopy and Michael the waiter were fantastic and we had delicious fresh fish and greek salad there 3 times. Would heartily recommend this place (they will pick you up and drop you back at the hotel if they are quiet)
Overall we concluded that although we had a lovely holiday it was despite the bad food and rubbish booze which made meal times a bit of a challenge! If you enjoy good fresh food and nice wine this is NOT the place for you.
Other guests at the time we stayed were mostly German and Russian families and a few English and French interspersed. A LOT OF SMALL SPEEDOS BY THE POOL!!
The staff were friendly in some areas of the hotel and particularly miserable in others- probably due to the rather depressing nature of the main restaurant where noone seemed to be cheery.
It most certainly isnt a 5* hotel. Other gripes we had was the 25 euro payment for the safe in the room and the ridiculous 20 euro per beach towel deposit. Crete however was a beautiful island and the people we met (mostly outside the hotel unfortunately) were warm and friendly.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have nicer balconies and are less overlooked.

Have just returned from a great stay at this hotel. No complaints at all. Just fifteen minutes from the airport, the setting of the hotel is great, the beach is fantastic, the sea is clean, beach flat, so ideal for swimming you can walk out quite a long way and still be in the shallow part. The pedalos and canoes are all free. All inclusive means it, includes beach bar, serving drinks, ice cream and slush. At the poolside, there are toasties, cocktails, and great Frappies with ice cream.
.
The staff are all very friendly and efficient. Rooms are spotless, had a wonderful view of the pool and sea. The food is well cooked and plenty of choice, Chinese restaurant was good, the Greek Taverna was quite good, but preferred sitting in the outside area of the main restaurant.

There are great characters in the dogs at the hotel, we were told they live in the houses around the hotel, they escape and spend most of their time there. they are so friendly, and love being fussed. There are cats around, but there again they are so cute, and no problem to anyone.

It was easy taking the local bus to a variety of places. We went to the VIllage of Plaka and took the ferry over to The Island of Spinalonga, this was the Lepor Colony, it was so sad very interesting, it costs 8 euros to cross and 2 euros to enter the island. I will be going back to this hotel, it was a fantastic chill week, well done to all the staff.

Room Tip: We had room 109 which had a fantastic view and was very quiet.

My husband, I and our two boys aged 6 and 4, spent a very nice summer holiday in Mitsis Rinela. The hotel is organized as a Greek village, with bungalows on each side of the main hotel building. The rooms there are mainly for two people, so we had a large room above the reception.
The hotel looks clean, with green spaces in between the buildings and has a nice relaxing feeling, but there are lots of steps from the reception to the beach. This could be a problem if you have a pram. The main pool in the middle of the hotel grounds. A bit further there are two small swimming pool with slides for children and another big pool. Here we spend there most of our holiday, as it was a good location for both parents and the children. The kids could be in one minute on the slide, in the big pool or on the beach and we could supervise them quite easy. The hotel has two more swimming pools with direct access from some rooms.
I liked the food; there was plenty of Mediteranian cuisine: moussaka, stuffed courgettes, stuffed eggplant, braised okras, salads, olives and cheese. My husband is not used to eatting this kind of food so he found the meal times quite boring: pasta, potatoes, rice, meat and fish. The kids looked forward the meal times, so they could feed the cats.
The animation team was quite good and I liked the Greek evening, when everybody could join in the traditional dance. The game room was a bit of a disappointment and the hotel could do a bit better there.
The bus station is in front of the hotel and it's a cheap, easy and comfortable way to travel around the neighboring area. We went one day to Heraklion, and it took us half an hour by bus. The Aquarium and the AquaPark are also worth visiting.
Overall it was a nice experience and I would return with the family if the price was right.

Room Tip: Next time I would choose the room with direct access to the pool.

My husband and I stayed here 7/10/2012 to 14/10/2012. We were a bit apprehensive as we had just experienced the most awful two weeks In July at an all inclusive in Protaras Cyprus and were keeping our fingers crossed that it wasn`t going to turn out the same. It certainly was not. The hotel is clean and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The food was very good (although the lunch time and dinner choices in the main restaurant were always the same). The Chinese Restaurant on site, which is part of the all inclusive was absolutely lovely we ate there 3 times!!!

Although these two things didn`t bother us in the slightest - If you don`t like cats and dogs this isn`t the place for you, There are loads of gorgeous little cats and kittens everywhere but my view is - it is better than having a load of mice and rats!! Also there are quite a lot of uneven steps and stairs.

All in all had an absolutely fabulous time and would definitely go again.

Good Day everyone ! I ve stayed at this hotel 7/10-12/10 2012 . Its located 15 min away from Heraklion airport . Fast check in , and the suite i got was nice . No plasma tv though , but aircon , minibar that had couple beers and then various soft drinks . Complimentary bottle of red wine and some fruits upon the first night . The bathroom was good , clean and worked well . generous amount of hygiene products , and lots of towels ,good bathrobe , slippers . The food and drinks were quite nice , and waiters were friendly and served fast . This hotel was very crowded , mostly germans nd english , russian and some french . The first two obviously stand out by amount of food consumption , beer drinking and hanging out by the pool rather than swimming in the sea and sunbathing . the latter two do more drinking and more loud . The animation was very unnoticeable , yes they did something , but i never figured out what and for whom . The only activity that people did was drinking at the bar . Anyways , beach was nice and clean , water very good , served ice cream at the beach . Went couple times to the spa , it was so so . massage was very quick and amateur , sauna was a small cubicle that is more for home use rather than a commercial use , swimming pool with so called massage , was just a small basin with a faucet , gym was just a treadmill and one broken bar , ...so spa was quite awful really . WIFI wasnt working at all .
so good sides are > location , food , drinks , area , service , suites
bad sides are > gym , spa , wifi , animation .
I will rate this a four out five , but its more a 3+ . there are improvements to be done surely . So if you re staying a longer stay , than this will be a hassle , but a short stay will be a joy !
thank you !

Wonderful hotel, great food, great service, friendly staff, lovely clean beach, great swimming pools - what more could you ask for? We just returned from a 2 week stay and had such a fantastic holiday. We have to say an extra special thanks to Andreea on reception, she welcomed us when we arrived at the beginning of our stay and was an angel throughout the duration of our stay, always so helpful and so kind and our kids adored her too. When we first arrived we were staying in a room close to the kitchens/cleaning area, we slept badly the first night due to the noise and after speaking to Andreea she immediately arranged for us to get moved to a quieter room. Thank you Andreea! :-)

Before we left for our holiday I read some reviews which complained about the food. We couldn't fault it and we have the increased waistlines to prove it! The Chinese restaurant and the Taverna were wonderful, you just need to remember to reserve a table the day before you want to eat.

Our kids (aged 9 and 7) loved the hotel and practically lived in the swimming pool. My son is having withdrawal symptoms from the fresh pancakes and my daughter misses the mini disco. The animation team worked so hard and were such lovely people.

We visited the Aquarium in Gouves which was a great day out but the highlight for us was Aquaworld Aquarium in Hersonissos which was really easy to get to by bus. We took the bus on the opposite side of the road from the hotel (bus direction Malia) and got off at bus stop no.20. You only need to pay entry fee to Aquaworld once (it's not expensive) and you can go back as often as you like whilst you're on holiday without paying any extra. Amazing experience for kids and adults alike.

We would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.
