“Great day trip to the nature”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

We like to stop here during hikes in the Taunus. Great backery! Cookies and cakes with grandma makes them. Restaurant is also nice and of course the houses are interesting to see.

“great trip back in time”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

Visit has been beautiful as always with the walks between the restored old Hessian houses/ farms and small handcraft businesses (some still operating!) in between churches, fields, small creek, lake, watermill etc. with view across the Taunus mountains. Nice stores to buy food manufactured the old fashioned way (cheese, bread, sausage, spirits, jellies etc.). A perfect trip for the whole family and guests from abroad.

“Great place to visit with and without family”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

The Hessenpark is an open air museum in Neu-Anspach (near Wehrheim-Obernhain), Hesse, Germany. It was founded in 1974 by the Hesse State Government.
The museum showcases half-timbered buildings and tells stories of Hesse's and its peoples history, old trades can be observed, a synagogue with ritual bath and many more. Interesting place to see. They have about 100 plus buldings there, not tour needed, go on your own.

“Hessen as it once was”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

The Hessenpark brings back memories of days gone by. When I walked through the Hessenpark I kept saying "Oh, I remember that thing", or asking my Mom "What was that used for ?" Many of those items arraigned in informative little expositions. Not only are the buildings from days gone by, but the countyside is dotted with info on what was grown in the old days, farming and animals. I highly recommend it, it is not boring and the whole family will enjoy it. Make sure you bring your camera and wear comfortable shoes. There is a snack stand inside of the park, we stopped for a Kaffee und Kuchen. The entry to the park has different shops where you can buy handmade wooden toys and gifts from Hessen. One of the shops is a "Kraeuterhexe" You can buy handmade soaps and herbs for all uses. At the brushmaker you can buy brushes for every use.

Hessenpark has an impressive collection of buildings arranged by the areas of Hess from which they have been transplanted. There’s clearly more to develop as funds permit but the current collection is enough to keep you busy for the better part of a day. The exhibits within the buildings illustrate local history including the difficult issues of the 1930s and the massive resettlement of German speaking peoples. Character actors bring the place to life, especially the postman. The live demonstration of cloth printing craftwork is another ‘must.’
