Some of the rooms are really great. We stayed in the Renaissance room, a splendidly decorated room with a huge "Himmelbett" (nice word). It had a small alcoven with a charming view down to the river valley. The bathroom would profit from a renovation.
The castle as a whole feels a bit stuffy. It decorated to the last corner with family memorabilia of the owner who apparently takes enormous pride in his ancestry (although this also includes the former Nazi top fat cat Hermann Göring). In the evening you can see him and his mother dine in pompous silence in the restaurant at a separate table decorated with his coat of arms.
Speaking of which: the restaurant itself is rather pompous but with rather average quality.
If you want to experience the pompous airs of the German gentry and sleep comfortably in one of the castles they cannot afford any more, this is a great place to go.
