“A well restored Castle”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2011

This Chateau has been restored from a poor state and work was completed in 2002. As a consequence you'll find new decor and wonderful bathrooms in which everything works. The rooms are a mixed bag and we moved form a large room which lacked charm to a smaller one which felt more comfortable. Note that this Chateau is not cold since modern double glazing and new central heating is everywhere. The dining rooms are charming and the food very good indeed. We were part of a large group but still experienced some fine dining. The wine list is extensive (nothing cheap on it but then nothing is cheap in "Euroland") and the larger dining room features a glass floor giving an unusual view into the wine cellar. Many local non residents come to eat here; enough said.

Room Tip: Rooms in the Annex feature a walk across the garden to get to the dining rooms and lounge. OK in goo...

We had a groupon package for one night stay in room de charm. It was really lovely! Hotel is slightly outside of chambery, but managed to get thereno problem by bus(only to return u need a taxi). Its lovely located outside of all noises, park is beautiful even in autumn and has a lovely view. Our room was ok, slightly less glamorous as advertised but very nice. Very big bathroom with a nice big tub! We also got a bottle of champagne in the room, which was a great touch. The dinner at restaurant was a cherry on the sunday! For breakfast it was much bigger than standard in France so perfect. The place has a bit old style feeling, but that's the charm!!

We are a young couple and we went there last New Year´s Eve. We´ve never seen such a bad service at the restaurant. Bad food, very rude waiters and extremely slow serving dinner (more than 4 hours for dinner is unaceptable!).By far very expensive for the service and food quality offered. Totaly UNRECOMMENDED and DISSAPOINTING. We sent a complainning letter to the manager but no anwer got yet.
Nice rooms and friendly reception staff.

We had a lovely two-night stay at Chateau des Comtes de Challes. Our room was very comfortable. Only downside was that the fan in the bathroom wasn't working very well, so the floor got a bit slippery from the steam after two people having a shower.

The food was delicious and beautifully presented. The set menu available on a weekday evening was very good value at either €26 or €29. The service was a little sporadic. The restaurant wasn't very busy when we were there, so we would have expected the waiters to have been more attentive.

The reception staff were helpful. The setting of the hotel is lovely with a beautiful terrace where you can enjoy refreshments during the day or in the evening.

All in all we would recommend this hotel to our family and friends. We would certainly go back there again.

We stayed here during a family function. The hotel is set in lovely grounds, with easy access to the surrounding area. The staff were all very helpful, including with special requests for the children. The hotel and in particular the restaurant get quite busy (we visited during the European summer), but one can have the right level of privacy none the less. There is a pool, internet connection, excellent food. Some of the hotel's rooms are smaller than others, but all are comfortable - it's an old building which means it is not all standardised (part of the charm).

Very nice location, 10mn from the motorway exit, calm in a superb location. We had the room 65, everything was perfect functional and apart from the carpeting which could be removed and replaced by parquet floor.
Large garden with gorgeous trees, nice pool. Restaurant good, classical french cuisine.
Service just OK, could be of higher standing given the place.
Nice place for a wedding as well: large dining rooms with gigantic fireplace.
Looking at previous posts, it seems that not all rooms have the same standing? Or renovation took place recently?

Room Tip: Room 65 is perfect, that's all I know

We have just spent 5 nights at this hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable but rather small. However there was a lift in our wing.
The location is superb with a pleasant garden, outdoor pool and nice views.
However the standard of service was poor. The hotel appeared to be understaffed, as a result the the service was slow and erratic. On requesting a snack mid afternoon we were told that nothing was available until 6.30pm when the kitchen would reopen
The evening meals were excellent, well cooked and presented and the ingredients used were locally produced and very fresh.
Breakfast however was poor, no staff to replace items when they ran out and the choice very limited.
To obtain drinks on the terrace took so long that on one occasion we gave up!
We enjoyed our stay and the staff we met were pleasant. If you decide to stay there please allow plenty of time.
