Indifferent manager and dreary rooms, not much of a welcome at all and although the room was clean and bathroom adequate, the room was in need of modernising. An example of what used to be a typical 2 star french hotel, which hopefully is in the minority now.
Breakfast was on the table and was nothing more than bread/croissants and jam.
Will not be returning.

Firstly, we were pleasantly suprised to receive an email (in English) from the owner of the hotel in the week before we arrived. The email explained that if we were to arrive before 1800, we needed to enter a security code in the front door and collect our key from a basket on the desk. We thought this was a nice touch, especially the effort to write the email in English.

The Hotel doesn't actually face the River Seine, it's a few minutes walk away, which probably accounts for it being the cheapest out of the 3 hotels in the Logis "chain" in Caudebec. Given that we were going to be arriving in the dark and only staying one night it didn't make sense for us to pay extra to stay in a Hotel with a river view.

The bedroom was of the typical standard found in this grade of Logis hotel. The room was adequately sized with a TV and wardrobe. The bathroom was huge, which seemed odd given that there was no actual bath in it but a shower in one corner. There was also a small balcony as well which looked down on the main street outside of the hotel. There was no noise to be heard from outside so managed to get a good nights' sleep.

We had decided in advance to eat in the restaurant and therefore booked the Half-Board (demi-pension) rate however the choice of options on the inclusive menu didn't particularly grab us so we asked if we could pay a supplement and choose from one of the more expensive menus. This seemed to cause the staff quite a bit of confusion which was surprising as we've done in this in many other hotels and its never been a problem before. In the end we were told that we couldn't pay a supplement and therefore we would be charged the "Room Only" rate and then pay the restaurant bill on top. Not sure why this was so difficult but there you go.

The food itself was fine, although the service was nothing special. To sum it up, it was a pleasant enough meal but not one that I would describe as memorable. The wine list was reasonable.

In the morning, we took breakfast in the main dining room (in the summer its served on a terrace on the back) the standard brekafast includes Crossaints, baguettes, yoghurt and a glass of orange juice together with tea / coffee. There is a menu card on the table with additional options available (at a supplement) including continental meats and cheeses.

This was a pleasant enough stay and I wouldn't say there was anything particularly wrong with the experience, although I didn't feel particularly welcomed and certainly don't have a longing to go back. That said, if I needed a hotel in the area again then I definately would consider using this Hotel

Although our arrival time was noted as 17:00, the hotel reception desk did not open until 18:00, ensuring we spent a wet hour in the town. No apology was made for this. The room was at best satisfactory - it was clean, but the bed was not fit for purpose - the frame was unstable, and the mattress beyond repair with no support at all, which together with poor sound insulation ensured a very poor night's sleep. On the plus side, the evening meal was good value.

Although the staff were generally poite and welcoming, there were worrying signs of sloppiness which were confirmed when the waitress dropped the bread basket at dinner but served the bread anyway!

The room was just about up to standard but badly soundproofed and there was blood on a window frame where somebody had bumped their head but no one had cleaned it and the bath-room came out of another era, cracked, chipped, peeling and impractical.

The posters and certificates on the walls all date to the early 90s and that was where the food was firmly fixed. A filet of local trout was cerved 'en feuillete' complete with bones, fins, bits of red pepper, fennel, a mush of courgette and carrot, a 'rosti' of burnt mediterranean vegetables and a seafood risotto that had odd black bits in it. The liver pate appeared to have been bulked up with bread, or something of the same colour and consistency.

The wine list was good and a St NIcolas de Bourgeuil was mercifully served at cellar temperature and not iced as so many people do so modishly.

The breakfast was fine - and worth the 6 Euros
