“Wonderful food and delightful staff!”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

This restaurant was literally steps from the house we had rented in Port-en-Bessin, and had been recommended by our hostess and our D-Day guide independently. We ate early, so the restaurant was empty at first, but the wait staff was so accommodating and helpful. They tirelessly explained dishes to us in adequate English and pantomime and we were all delighted with our choices. Highly recommend.

“Excellent traditional Norman restaurant”
Reviewed September 27, 2013 via mobile

The best fish soup I've ever had, copious portions of traditional Norman food and a fabulous Calvados sorbet desert.

If you love traditional French cooking in an unpretentious and convivial environment then this is for you. Great restaurant.

“Great food - like home cooking”
Reviewed September 7, 2013 via mobile

I had checked the reviews and thought it worth a go. I concur with the general feedback on other reviews about quality, value, service, etc.
It's great to have such a selection of fish for much lower prices than in the UK.
My starter - mixed seashells - had been grilled with garlic butter: that was so moreish I had loads of bread to soak it up.
The decor is like someone's grandma's: looks like it dates from the early 1980's (like when grandparents stop decorating). If looking at this restaurant from the outside only you could get put off by that. If it is modernised I hope it doesn't detract from the food.
Maybe it's the French way of eating (i.e. early), but there was only one table still occupied at 10 pm; whereas when we arrived at 7:45, there were only 2 spares, and ours was on the 2nd sitting.

“Better than average but maybe not quite Very Good”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

We only found this restaurant as we had seen the reviews on Trip Advisor and sought it out. It is tucked away from the main road up a side street. We arrived at 12.30 on a Thursday lunchtime and were really surprised to be the first ( and only for some time!) people in the restaurant. Slightly surprising as reviews on here say how popular it is. We were quite impressed by the food but a little disappointed in the choice of wine especially as we wanted less than a bottle. Half a bottle of unimpressive wine was €18 ! We both had the assiette de fruit de mer as a starter which looked amazing. The crab was delicious but there were a lot of shrimps ( very fiddly) and bullots ((sea snails) which needed some garlic butter to pep them up ! Main courses of veal in roqueforte sauce and ray in butter sauce were "nice" but that's as far as it goes. Desert of creme brûlée and fruit Charlotte were again ok but we left a little disappointed. Service could not be faulted and the poor trainee waiter was watched carefully by both the husband and wife of this family run business! Our dog was welcomed. Unheard of in a restaurant of this standard in the UK.

“Great food, great value, great hospitality”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

We were a 10 strong golfing contingent, all foodies at heart, and I was nervous booking for us all, despite the excellent reviews on Trip. But no worries. The restaurant was once a house and we were sat in the back room, and it felt snug and homely. We were greeted by the lady owner who spoke good english but appreciated our amateurish attempts at French. There were at 4 menu prix fixe ranging from E17.50 to about E27. All sounded delish. Most of us opted for the E23. And we weren't disappointed and I breathed a sigh of relief. There were 4-5 choices of starter, main and dessert. I had the assiette de fruit de mer: it was substantial, fresh and delicious. My main was sole with butter sauce; perfectly cooked with balanced not overly rich butter sauce. My dessert was light because i was filling up by then.
Overall, the experience was homely, comfortable, great value for money and filling. I would happily look for it again if we play the area again.
