“Mixed feelings”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

We saw this new B&B recommended and saw the Tripadvisor reviews which galvanised us, as regular travellers through this part of France, to try it for a night.

We were met at the front door by 2 portly gents who introduced themselves as Francis and son Cedric. We were a little unnerved by being taken straight to the bar to be advised of French rules regarding B&B. We had arrived 15 minutes before 16.00, which apparently was against the regulations for B&B. Furthermore, a confusing mixture of mustiness and automated synthetic 'Freshair' spray was unpleasant and finally a not all together sparklingly clean room (grains of sugar on the tea tray & drooping orchid) was the final irritation. All would be surmountable with a fraction more effort. There the criticisms stop of this beautiful chateau turned into comfortable B&B for this father and son team have obviously worked hard and are dedicated to the comfort of their guests, of whom there seem plenty from all over Northern Europe. The flexibility that these two men flow between the languages of their guests, their perpetual courtesy at all moments of our stay put us to shame. Dinner was at a set time with aperitifs being served at 7.30 and Cedric served the virtually full elegant restaurant very efficiently with the simple 5 course meal.

Our night was comfortable and quiet and all bedroom / bathroom facilities worked well. He did warn us of the 5 minutes delay for hot water to reach the shower!

Putting aside our initial impressions, our stay at Chateau de Moulin le Comte was comfortable and if those few items could be corrected, it would be perfect

We stayed for 2 nights as a convenient stop over before returning to the uk with our three children aged 10, 9 and 4. We had a lovely big room with a further bedroom for two of the children while the little one was in a bed in our room and we had tons of space. The bathroom and separate loo nicely done also. But the highlight is undoubtedly the food. €29 for a five course set dinner, all cooked by the owner. We have paid a lot more for food which was of a similar quality. The owner offered to do the kids usual nugget , hamburger fare, but as we are not keen on constant "kids" food, they ate the same main meal and dessert as us and thought it was fantastic. The breakfast (included in the price ) was lovely also with lovely home made preserves. The owners are friendly and helpful and very keen to please. We visited Arras and Lille, both easily accessible. Will definitely stay there again.

If you like large room, old fashion style and "homemade" service, this is the place.
I stayed one night, slept in a comfortable large bed, had diner and breakfast.
I felt like at home, eating a good family diner prepared directly by the owner. Portions were generous. Good food.
About the breakfast, I could easily share it with 1 or 2 extras persons !!! So many things !
By the way, breakfast is included in the room price !!!

A very attractive building. The father and son owners are friendly and do their best to make your stay positive. The rooms are are very spacious and tastefully decorated. The food is very good. They are very dog friendly and our dog was allowed to lie next to us at dinner in the very large dining-room. We stayed here first on our way to Spain and were so impressed that we booked a return night for 3 weeks later.

We had a family reunion - 12 of us - at this lovely hotel. We had all the rooms in the hotel, dinner and breakfast. We are not an easy family to cater for - some gluten free, a vegetarian, but Francis and Cedric rose to the challenge and looked after us very well. The only down side was that the dining table was very very long, as it was five small tables put together : this made conversation down the table a bit difficult. However this was a minor point. It was a very convenient meeting point for our family and we would come again.

Room Tip: we had the family suite, the orange room, which worked fine for the four of us - my three sons and m...

We spent a night at the Chateau last weekend, we were welcomed into their home by Cedric & Francis. The building is lovely with only five rooms, which were in good condition. We arrived in the small bar for pre dinner apéritifs, my wife was suffering from Sinusitis and after traveling from England through France and Belgium to Sluis, Holland for Lunch and back to Aire sur la Lys in one day and was not a happy bunny!! Every room had their own table, nicely spaced out, so if you wanted to keep you self to your self you could. As I do not eat cheese and we had a five course set meal on its way, I was rather wary. Every course was delightful and a fully inclusive price including the apéritifs and all wine (one bottle per person). We both slept well and having been asked what time we would like breakfast, our warm boiled eggs were awaiting us. The only small problem was a slight smell of damp from the large bathroom, which I believe was because the door has been closed, but this soon cleared. That said I would / could not fault this lovely 5* bed and breakfast, we were waved off by our hosts and will most definitely return, soon...

We recently spent four nights here and were absolutely delighted with the experience. Francis and Cedric are excellent hosts in this small (5 rooms only) hotel which they have lovingly restored.

We stayed in the Orange room which was very spacious and comfortable with windows overlooking the gardens and the Lys river. Breakfasts are included in the price and are a leisurely affair in the dining room overlooking the garden. Dinner is also available provided the hosts know in advance that you intend to 'dine in'. We did this for two of our four nights and were treated to a five course meal on both occasions. Francis is the chef and his flair for cooking is evident from the first to the last course. I would strongly urge guests to 'dine in' simply to sample the beautiful dishes Francis prepares. The real bonus, however, is that the same quality 5 course dinner in any other restaurant would probably cost twice as much.

While Francis lovingly prepares the meals, Cedric is both sommelier and waiter.

We left Chateau de Moulin le Comte feeling we'd been thoroughly spoiled but loving it.

Aire-su-la-Lys is a great base for visiting Flanders fields, Dunkirk and the coast and the Arras area.
If ever we return to the area, we'd certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: Any one of the five rooms would be excellent.
