“Very warm welcome and great stay”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

We used Puylaurens as a stopping point for the night on our drive south. We were looking for a charming small hotel where we could have dinner on-site. This inn fit the bill perfectly. Of all the hotels we stayed in during a three week trip, we received our warmest welcome here. Arriving at the small square fronting the inn and finding no parking place, David came out and helped us park our car in front of the door of his personal home. Two young helpers whisked our bags inside and made us feel special. These young men waited on us that evening for dinner. The kitchen here is well-renowned and we loved our meal.

The inn is a bit difficult to find. It’s up on the spine of the village hill, accessed down a small one lane road. The website gives an excellent overview of the hotel interior, so you know just what you are getting. It’s well decorated, with a Spanish influence, and we especially enjoyed the huge clean bathroom. One thing not disclosed by the web is that the view rooms looking out from the plateau have the village’s main road just beneath, and there is some traffic noise. The noise abates after dark, but starts again quite early in the morning. When we return, we may consider the rooms looking into the quiet inner village square. If you are looking for a travel stopping point, we highly recommend Puylaurens and Cap de Castel.

Once again we had a great stay at Cap de Castel. We had a different room this time with amazing views over the mountains but it was large and very comfortable. David was a fabulous host and very congenial and helpful. We ate in the restaurant both nights but unfortunately inside due to the weather. The food, service and wine were all very good and the surrounding area from Castries to Albi and all the Bastide villages were amazing. Thanks again David for a wonderful stay, see you again very soon

We were taken with the welcome, the room(we upgraded to the one with a bath and a shower), the staff, the view, the pool area, the decor and most importantly the food. Excellent shy chef, Xavier, and really good host, David. We also enjoyed the area and took loads of pretty drives. Best breakfast so far on our holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for the movie theme one as its substantially larger than the regular rooms. The business below c...

This is our fourth visit over a number of years, to this absolutely delightful hotel. Situated in the unprepossessing town of Puylaurens, Cap de Castel is it's saving grace. Building wise the hotel is hugely attractive, with it's provencale style. The rooms are lovely, spacious and beautifully decorated. Our room Neuf, had been newly decorated and we liked the more modern style and colourings but were pleased to see that the Marilyn Monroe theme had been retained. Gorgeous views of over the countryside. There is a pool and terrace again with wonderful views. We were fortunate in being able to dine on the terrace each evening and together with the splendid food this makes for a delightful experience. David and Lise have a wonderful team of cooks and waiting staff and all this works to provide a very relaxed stay. We love this place, in fact, I think it is our favourite hotel! We will return, hopefully in 2015. Well done once again David and Lise.

It's very rare that you return to a hotel and find that it's just as good, if not better, than the time before. Well Cap de Castel is definitely one of those places. If you've never been, then I suggest you get booking; if you've been before then it's probably time to book again. Excellent boutique hotel and a fabulous owner / host.

Room Tip: The bed's are excellent so chose any room that suits your budget.

Dear David,

Thank you so much for this very kind review.
Given your hotelier background we value so much your feedback and complicity especially when facing bizarre situations. But your loyalty over the years is even more valuable to each of us.

This Sunday, with my Dad's help we just finished assembling the new outdoor furniture... and rescued the pool from nasty stones and pieces of tiles this time. Our neighbor and his brother say hello.

A bientôt.

It has been well over a year since my last stay and David gave the usual warm welcome
Sme of the rooms have been updated and mine was a black and white film themed room. Large room, old features retained and great views across to the Black Mountains
The restaurant is great and the standard of food is fabulous.
Breakfast simple but good quality.
High quality place with character

A beautifully restored old building that had, I think, formed part of the castle walls, we were told parts dated back to the 17th century. The bedroom was ample, the bed comfortable, the welcome warm and friendly.
The restaurant is excellent and the owner/maitre d' is very helpful (he also speaks good English, certainly better than my French!).
If passing there again then this hotel will definitely be on my list
