“Fantastic!”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

We stayed here while in Monteverde which already was such an incredible aspect to our adventure in that region of the country. Alba - our hotel manager - was funny, friendly, a total doll. The room was huge with an incredible few of the valley. Plus, the price was right at $60 a night which included a delicious, full breakfast. Alba was helpful with advice on where to go and quick to get on the phone to make your daytime activity reservations. She definitely made our trip even more comfortable. We loved Monteverde and we adored Historias Lodge. Stay here!

This place is like no other, its earthy and romantic environment gives off such a relaxing and comfortable vive. Their rooms are beautiful. They are100% clean, spacious, beds are comfortable, the woody rooms gives it a feeling like if you are really living in a cabin, and they have AC system. Never once did I notice anything sketchy in the room. Their private bathrooms have hot water, are roomy and some even have bathtubs, everything was shiny and clean in the bathrooms. Historias Lodge also has complimentary breakfast over at their kitchen/community room. This kitchen has a large window where you can see many hummingbirds just passing by to feed of of their hummingbird feeders. You can always go down to the community room and simply just relax watch the hummingbirds and /or read a book. The owners and Employees there are amazingly nice, polite and accommodating. Alba is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about her country. You can ask her for any information about parks and even restaurant/bars and she will give you all she has, she can even book things for you. She's such a helpful woman! Luis is the owner he is also a helpful and accommodating sweet guy, he is actually built this place with his bare hands.. wow!! Everyone there was sooooo nice !! If you are looking for a romantic, clean, accommodating, beautiful place to stay at in Monteverde Historias Lodge is the place to be!! Yes I would and I will definitely go back!!

This Beautiful Lodge is hand made by Luis Brenes. Made entirely of teak wod it is breath taking! Him and his sister Alba run it together. They are the so sweet. They instantly made us feel special and just like part of their family. The accomodation was beyond expectation. We stayed in room #8 and it was huge extremely spacious each one of us had a bed. There were 3 of us. The room was so pretty super clean and each bed had a beautiful bow or swan made from your towels. the bathroom had a really big bath tub that looked like all 3 of us could fit. They provide breakfast that is to die for. if you are going to Monte Verde allow this lodge and Luis and Alba to enrich your Costa Rican adventure. They sure have a peice of my heart!

Room Tip: Ask for room #8 for parties of 3.

The room was spacious, clean, and it had a h-u-g-e tub. The location was great - nearby restaurants, a grocery, ice cream parlor, etc within walking distance. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and a half dozen or more hummingbirds can be viewed while you eat. The breakfast was good and the personnel gracious. On two occasions we were welcomed to use the dining room to have our own picnics (the hotel doesn't serve dinner), and the manager facilitated our experience with dishes and pleasant conversation. If we ever return to Costa Rica, we will definitely be visiting again with Luis!

Luis Brenes and his sister Alba will go all out to please their guests. They're real Ticos whose family has lived in the area for generations and love their hometown. Luis can articulately talk about the history of this until-recently remote area. Check out the Monteverde photo collection by the reception desk.
Monteverde is a small town, hilly, but walkable.
Owners will cook you a great breakfast and sit and visit with you if you want. Lodge is simple but comfortable and spotless, and resident doggie Lucho was a great hit with my kids. Also, it's located a short walk from an ice cream parlor.

Room Tip: Clean rooms, good towels.
