Clean rooms (they clean it every day), big bathrooms and a fantastic breakfast, true! But... it didn't feel homely in the communal area. The back part is filled up with stuff:some mashines, an unused pizza oven and much more. The sofa always seems to be occupied by either Ronnys wife sorting out the linnen and towels or the children sleeping there. So the hard benches are left for the guests and because it gets quite cold in the evening it just feels uncomfy. If you want to cook you have to share two cooking stoves with all the other guests. At night Ronny leaves and there seems to be nobody responsible staying over night in the hostel making sure that some idiots wouldn't climb on the roof in the middle of the night and make the hell of a noise. All the 3 days we stayed I just couldn't get rid of the feeling that the main thing for him to host people is to get the comission for the tours you will book with him. This showed very clearly when he was having his private birthday party with his private guests and friends in the communal area of the hostel. They were making noise until 1:40 am keeping everybody awake until I got down complaining about the noise. At least then they left and it was quiet. But to top this Ronny showed up in the morning too late for breakfast and must have been so drunk the night before that he had lost the key. There we were standing, six people waiting for this really good breakfast, but nobody could get in. OK. He organized a breakfast for us in the hostel next door, but it was only one pancake and everybody still was a bit hungry after that.
To sum it up if you just need a clean room to stay, don't bother to cook and love a nice breakfast stay at the Sleepers Sleep Cheaper. If you expect a bit more of a hostel just go round the corner.

Honestly can't think of a bad thing to say about this place. It's a locally run place by a family who is always around. They're bilingual and helpful. They can get you discounts on tours and activities and can help you organise lots of stuff. The rooms are cleaned everyday. You have private and shared bathroom options. They also have hot water which is necessary in Monteverde as it can get cold at night. Monteverde is small but it's a good location. Close to the bus stop and close to many restaurant options. You even have a nice view from many open areas and common areas on the balconies. They also serve a very good and filling breakfast of fruit plates, toast, scrambled eggs and tea and coffee is available all day. The kitchen is also available for cooking for yourself. These guys offer excellent value for money.

Booking a hostel in Monteverde was a thumbsuck, but I struck lucky with Sleepers Sleep Cheaper! As I stepped off the bus from San Jose, Ronnie and his daughter were there to meet me and take me to the hostel. My room was spotlessly clean, with good quality bedding and a lovely bathroom. Ronnie and Yoselin were really informative about the tours available, and were fun to be with. A very positive experience. I will definitely stay there again if I return to Monteverde!

Room Tip: Top floor has comfy armchairs on the balcony ... :)

Great location for an amazing value. I stayed two nights and the owner helped me plan all my tours in Monteverde. He even helped me pick the best zip line tour based on my personality & likes. The breakfast was great: fresh fruit, coffee, cereal and eggs which was included.

The room was a little small for two bunk beds but the bathroom was huge.

I loved all the handmade woodwork furniture throughout the hostel.

I've spent 3 nights here in september. The rooms and bathroom are clean, and the included breakfast (with fresh fruits) is a great way to start your day. The family is great and treat its visitors with respect.

Sleepers hostel a great place to start exploring Monteverde and it's surroundings, and the owner is very knowledgeable about the wide range of activities offered. It's a great place for the budget traveller!

We stayed here for a couple of nights and enjoyed the family atmosphere, the service (the owner can tailor the trips he helps you book to what he thinks you'll enjoy from just a few Q's), and the room we stayed in. We stayed in the room at the top as it was only $2 more than the other private room we were shown. It had a nice little bar area and relatively nice views out across the hills. It also had a massive, comfortable bed. It is right across the road from where the bus to Monteverde cloud forest too. We booked a trip to a nature reserve for a night walk, which was good.

Good people, very helpful. Great breakfast. Ronny was great to sit around and chat with about the local area and the activities that were around. He suggested great food, great coffee, and was really spot on. Extradordinarily clean bathrooms from what I have seen thusfar in Costa Rica. If you like muscle cars, be sure to ask Ronny about that as well.
