Ronny (the owner) will help you find: tranpsoration, tours, restaurants, give you advice on time, places, needs, trips. He is someone to know if you are going anywhere in Costa Rica actually. The beds were comfortable and sheets clean. The bathrooms were just what you want...clean and easy to get to. Highly recommend this hostel over many others.

The owners were extremely helpful! They booked the shuttles, the Monteverde tours and everything for us. The place is very quaint, the accommodation is average but you get what you pay for. The owner made breakfast herself, which makes it a great cultural experience.

This hostel is warm, friendly and above all clean.Very cheap but lovely rooms, some dorms with regular beds. The staff Jocelyn,Ronny etc are awesome and happy to chat and help out in any way. There is a communal kitchen and lounge and a really homely feel. It´s also very close to Santa Elena town. The free breakfast is great, fresh mixed fruit to die for, cereal, eggs on toast, coffee or tea,Stay here, you wont be dissapointed!

The effort shown by the owner is of no contest. She was able to accommodate us whenever we needed help or assistance. Despite the fact breakfast is not served until 7am, she woke up early to cook us breakfast since we needed to catch a 7:15am bus to Manual Antonio. As some places may put little or no effort into providing a quality meal, the owner cooked a three course breakfast for us as soon as we woke up (she easily could have put sub-par food in a buffet bucket or made us fend for ourselves. This effort is despite the fact she has a family to take care of and was working without the assistance of other employees. The cost is dirt cheap in comparison to other places. Brochures and maps are available upon request, and the employees are very knowledgable in what the best tours are and how much they may cost. Once you decide what you would like to do, she calls and sets up an arrangement for the tour company to pick you up from the hostel. This is invaluable for those who don't speak fluent Spanish.

We stayed in the Sleepers in La Fortuna, and used their Jeep-Boat-Jeep service to reach the hostel in Monteverde, which was cheap and went very smoothly. We arrived, were welcomed by our hostess (and some of her charming children) and shown to our room. We got room #10, with a private bathroom. We walked in and were stunned by how great it was. It had large windows all around, with a view out over the valley, 2 large comfortable beds, and was super clean and nicely decorated. The kitchen was clean, the breakfast provided was perfectly convenient and tasty, and the coffee was superb. The hostel has a great family feel to it, and is perfectly located *in town* and close to the great bakery, supermarkets, banks, and the bus stop.

The one single downside of our trip was no fault of the hostels, as it was seasonably rainy and windy, which made for quite a cold few days - so bring a rain jacket. Or cuddle up in one of the lovely cozy warm rooms and read a good book.

Also, if you'd like to know how to take the public bus to get from Monteverde to the Pacific Coast Beaches (Nosara, Samara) it is possible, and we had a hard time finding any information on it - aside from a wonderfully helpful woman at the "Office of Tourism" (or some such named organization). No shuttles necessary! Just contact me and I'll explain the route. I'll also be putting it up on a few different forums, because it didn't seem to be widely known you could take that specific route. Don't go all the way back to San Jose or Liberia, just contact me or search the forums.

Room Tip: Didn't see any of the other rooms, but #10 is SPECTACULAR

The hostel is conveniently located, 5 minutes walking from the supermarket and bus station. The owners are friendly and can help book tours and activities in the area. Breakfast is included (fruits, cereals, omelet and one toast). Wifi is a bit capricious but when it works it is speedy. Bathrooms are clean with hot water.

This hostel is a 3-5 minute walk from most restaurants and the supermarket in Santa Elena, and it provides a nice view over a small valley from the back porch. Our room was clean and well maintained, and the bathroom had new tile, a hot water shower, but no hot water in the sink. The hostess spoke english, provided a decent free breakfast every morning, and set up tours for us.
The only problems we had were that the bed wasn't very comfortable, and the kitchen is closed from 9pm to 6:30am. So if you're starting early in the morning or coming back late you can't cook, and you don't have many options for getting food in town either.
Considering it was only $25/night this is a hostel I would recommend and probably return to, but there a few other places just across the street (such as Cabina's Eddy) worth looking into as well.
