I liked everything about it. Some of the native orchids need a magnifying glass to see, which I loved! If you like flowers, you'll thoroughly enjoy the 45 minute tour!

“Educative & fun!”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

A guided tour explaining lots about orchids that we didn't know, even though we have a couple dozen of them at home, all our questions competently handled... Particularly facinating to see all the tiniest examples, although we were a day too late to see the "smallest orchid in the world"!

Bear in mind that the majority of the orchids here are of the miniature variety - magnifying glasses and a very knowledgeable guide are provided.

I'm not an orchid expert but was entertained for approx 1 hour by a person who knew about and loved orchids.

“Visit here before the Cloud Forest!”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

You don't have to be an orchid enthusiast to enjoy a visit to this large collection of orchids. The young woman who escorted us through the gardens was extremely knowledgeable about orchids and an excellent guide. Like most fine teachers she transmitted her enthusiasm to us! There are a few flashy orchids in their greenhouse, but most of the collection is outside in a natural setting, We used the magnifying glasses they have to see some very tiny and fascinating orchids. When we went to the Monteverde Cloud Forest the next day, we were very much more aware of the orchids there and because of our visit to the Orchid Gardens we found ourselves scanning the forest canopy with our binoculars for colorful orchids. We found quite a few we would not have seen otherwise.

“If you like orchids...”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

My husband and I visited the orchid garden one afternoon just prior to closing. The garden is a collection of orchids attached to trees or under a greenhouse with winding cement pathways. While small, they have around 400 different types of orchids. Not all of these are in bloom at the same time however- during our trip we probably saw around 100 different flowers.
We took the guided tour which was excellent! Our guide (katelyn?) was very knowledgeable and spoke English very well. The majority of the orchids which were in bloom while we were there were mini orchids- many required a hand held magnifying glass to appreciate the colors and details. I would not have enjoyed the garden nearly as much without the tour, as it is very hard to find some of the blooms when they are so small!

The garden does not take credit cards, however it was only $10 or so per person and well worth it! If you are traveling to monteverde (or anywhere in Costa Rica) you can't expect small businesses to take credit cards.

I would gladly return to the orchid garden!
