“Good guides but crowded”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

These night tours are very popular. You end up with 7-8 people per guide, which is ok. But there are a lot of guides and groups, so you do not feel alone in the forest. The guide we had was knowledgable, but as curious nature explorers, there was little to see that we did not see before or during daytime. Top attractions are the agoutis, tarrantula and sleeping birds. Overall, I would recommend this tour especially to families, as it is clearly a nice way to get children interessed in nature.

“Fun even in the rain”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

We had a good time on this night walk. Yes, there were a lot of folks walking around in the rain (& wind), but the guides did their best to keep us separated, even making us "take turns" in viewing the most exciting find of the night - a sloth with a baby!! We also saw a flurry of bats, the requisite tarantula, several sleeping birds (including the little green toucans we spotted during a day hike on the same trails), some big green bugs, and the hollow strangler fig light show. It was cool to see the patterns of light shining through when the guide pointed his flashlight up through the center. During the hike we also saw leaf cutter ants, but they weren't carrying any leaves because of the rain. Luckily, we also saw these ants during our day hike on the same trails -- complete with their amazing leaf flags. We were so excited about this that we made a video to share with our friends.

“OK”

Felt a bit hokey with a large number of folks walking around in a small area. We saw tarantulas, scorpions, a sleeping wren and some other species, but it was a bit underwhelming.

“Get a different perspective on the rain forest”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2012

We really enjoyed the Hidden Valley night walk and out guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. Seeing and hearing the rain forest at night gives you a different perspective and we thought it was well worth our time to take this excursion. We saw a coati and a mother sloth with a baby, a couple of tarantulas, a few other insects and several sleeping birds. We learned a great deal about the plant life and that was very interesting. The trails were well maintained and easy to traverse. Note to visitors.....keep the chatter down!!! This is a place where what you hear is as important as what you see.

“Educational and interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2012

This was my first night tour and while because of the rain, we did not get to see as many creatures, our tour guide was very knowledgeable, describing ficus trees (strangler fig) where we were able to walk inside a tree with its inside hollow, as well as we saw a few coatis, a sloth, some insects and sleeping birds. The walk was very interesting and our tour guide had definitely intrigued our curiosity and fascinated us with all the nature wonders.
