We loved our night hike at Hidden Valley. We got put into a really great group of people and had a lot of fun trooping around through the forest together looking for nocturnal animals. We also had a great guide, and with her help, we spotted a sloth, a tarantula, a fox, a raccoon, coatis, an agouti, several cool insects and birds, and even a porcupine. The guides even had walkie talkies and would communicate to each other on where the wildlife was if another group saw something interesting. We really wanted to see a snake, and our guide managed to find a very small one for us coiled around a tiny tree branch. There are a lot of things to be discovered in the forest at night, and it was really interesting to see how things changed from day to evening. I'd advise bringing a rain poncho along. It was nice weather when we left, but partway through the tour it poured rain. We still had a great time though and would highly recommend this tour.

First do not go by the pictures they have on their website. You will be super lucky if you see at least 4 of all those animals. We saw one bat, one sleeping bird, one tarantula and a raccoon. Interestingly in that darkness the guide knew exactly where to stop and look up or down to find the animal.
It is definitely fishy.
The day after this tour we went on a bird watching tour and we mentioned to the guide about the "Hidden Valley Night Tour". What confirmed our suspicions is that the bird watching tour guide knew that we would have seen the tarantula in our "Hidden Valley Tour".
The tour is not in forest, instead in a wooded area between houses and other buildings. The flash lights they provide are really bad and hardly have any battery power. There are few other groups like us and we all kept crisscrossing due to the size of the area.
Very uninteresting and not worth it.

My husband and I took the Hidden Valley Night Tour and we were glad we did. We saw a coati, an agouti, many birds and insects, and an orange-kneed tarantula. It was neat to be out in the jungle in the dark, and fortunately there was no rain. They provided flashlights. But what made it even better was that before the start of the walk, our guide mentioned we should save our tickets and return within the next few days during the daytime if we wanted to hike on our own with maps they would provide.

So the next day we went back and hiked for 2.5 hours and saw a lot of other interesting things. During the daytime you can see the incredible views all the way over to the Nicoya Peninsula, as well as the many varieties of butterflies in the area. We saw different birds than we had seen at night and we came across a whole family of coatis foraging in the dirt for their lunch . Also had a snake which we later identified at the Serpentarium as the green viper cross our path. Hard to say if we enjoyed the nighttime or the daytime hike better. I would highly recommend this activity!
