The staff at the lodge were very friendly and welcoming, greeting us with a fresh fruit drink upon check-in. The welcome area is updated and comfortable and the staff were helpful in assisting us with tours and a massage with their sister hotel, Poco Poco.
The rooms are basic and felt like I was at camp. The worst part was that the walls are very thin and I could hear the t.v. in the room next to us very well. The wind gusts were 40-50 mph and it felt like sleeping in a wind tunnel. There is no heater, and the blankets were thin, so it was cold!
The included breakfast buffet was good and staff were attentive.

Dear Mr/ Mrs Skyllo.
Thank you for your comments and for recommending Monteverde Country Lodge to others. Your feedback will allow us to improve, correct and supervise the standard of service and to achieve excellence.
We try our best to provide the best service, best experience and to show the old fashioned - Mountain style of hotels from the classic Monteverde. We do recommend our guests to book Superior rooms, not that Classic rooms are bad, they are just more basic.
Other hotel amenities, open grounds, corridors, balconies, playground and Costa Rican Style restaurant are excellent ways to enjoy your stay even more.
Our location, close to town yet, on a more quiet, relaxed area, allows to enjoy the town life, night life, tours, dining, shopping, and more, several choices of food, attractions and natural areas are very close by.
Our sister property, Hotel Poco a Poco, offer guests the chance to enjoy the pool, jacuzzi, spa and restaurant!!
Monteverde Country Lodge is indeed the best value hotel within its range!!!
Thank you and happy travels!!!

A nice enough hotel with a decent restaurant. The rooms are just OK but the big problem is super thin walls. You can pretty much hear everything going on in the adjacent rooms. The worst part is it's very windy and misty up in the Cloud Forrest of Monteverde. Do sleeping at night is like being inside a wind tunnel. One night actually resembled the sounds of a hurricane outside. I'm convinced that it was windy but that the thin structure made it that much worse. I say this now, but who knows if it's different anywhere else -- I think that's just the nature of the weather up there. Best part of staying here, however, is having access to the amenities of the best hotel in town: Poco a Poco. They have an awesome pool, spa, and restaurant. All of which we took advantage of.

I go to Monteverde often and I did like this place. The rooms where clean and the place overall was very good. The restaurant I liked very much, although they did not have many different dish options. The service was good on the restaurant, but not on every shift of the reception, probably there was someone that was not on the same page as the other ones. Overall a nice cousy hotel, close enouhg to town, clean and beautiful. Would recommended.

Stayed here for a few days during a tour of Costa Rica and found the place quite average overall. The rooms were adequate however the walls are wafer thin and we could here everything going off in the rooms on either side of us particularly the lady throwing up for the best part of the night and following day and each toilet visit made by guests! not a pleasant experience.
The breakfast was basic and we didnt have any other meals at the resort so cant comment on that. They do book trips from the hotel for various tours to the Cloud forest day / night tours etc and there are some things quite close by like the butterfly garden and a cloud forest walk just down the track from the hotel which you can do yourself. We took one of the trails and got to see quite a bit of wildlife like kawate, aguti and monkeys.
The restaurant opposite the hotel does very good food and is nearly always deserted as there arent really any other big hotels nearby to service it but we ate there a couple of times and enjoyed the food and the service from Alexandro. There is also a small bakery a short walk away on the main road who do good food to eat in or take away at a reasonable price.
It is a good walk into the town where all the bars and other restaurants are and a very long walk back up the steep hill. We had a meal at the tree house in town and wished we hadnt bothered it was a rip off for 2 warm coffees and 2 snacks, we paid the same for a proper meal at the restaurant next to the hotel which i cant remember the name of but it looks like a Swiss chalet.
Would we go back - a definite no.

Room Tip: An upper end room, the rooms are all built of wood and when people drag the furniture around it is v...

We liked this place in spite of the relentless rain during our stay! The restaurant was good and the room we had was basic but clean and comfortable. A good place for a group of people to stay and a base for the Selvatura zip wire!!

I just reviewed a few other entries and quite surprised at the negative comments as they were from the same time we were there and we thought it nice. We were in room 50 upstairs behind reception. The grounds were lovely, the room clean but spartan (there was TV, frig, safe). The bathroom large but with the eco-conscious approach there were some things to be aware of - no bar soap or shampoo but instead liquid soap dispensers by sink and in large shower and you cannot put TP down toilet (a new twist for us). No AC but nice cool breezes in evening. We had breakfast 2 mornings and it was good (marmalade delicious), drinks in the cozy bar were also good and the dinner we had there was excellent (yummy sangria). Reception was friendly and recommended a good tour. No complaints. Note that the website pictures look a bit more glamorous than reality and maybe prior to a dining room/bar remodel. Also, walking into town would not be something I would do - a bit far and hilly but everyone in Monteverde/Santa Elena walks so maybe no big deal to the locals.

Room Tip: Ask for a new room upstairs

Upon first glance, a charmingly rustic hotel in beautiful Monteverde. Until we went to bed that night. We were about to go to sleep, peacefully writing in journals or reading. Then, we heard a sound, like hissing. First a drop came down, onto the bed between me and my husband. It was raining pretty hard, as usual, and with the zero-insulation styled walls, we thought it was one of the many other sounds that kept us up at night. Then came the waterworks. Or should I say the pee-works? Liquid flooded from between the wood planks in our ceiling, soaking our bed and splashing our arms. The odor was putrid, definatley human pee. When we went to the reception, they laughed and simply changed our sheets, not a single apology and the exuse of an animal peeing on our roof and it dripping in here. Do not recommend.
