I would recommend this hotel. It is situated about 1km from the centre, so having a car was helpful. Breakfast was good, service was excellent, both in the restaurant and especially at the front desk. My only complaint was there was no shelving or areas in the room or bathroom to place items, like washbag etc. There is no fridge in the room also.

Room Tip: We had 2 flights of stairs, maybe make sure to ask for a ground floor room if you have heavy luggage.

We try our best to provide the best service, best experience and to show the old fashioned - Mountain style of hotels from the classic Monteverde. We do recommend our guests to book Superior rooms, not that Classic rooms are bad, they are just more basic.
Other hotel amenities, open grounds, corridors, balconies, playground and Costa Rican Style restaurant are excellent ways to enjoy your stay even more.
Our location, close to town yet, on a more quiet, relaxed area, allows to enjoy the town life, night life, tours, dining, shopping, and more, several choices of food, attractions and natural areas are very close by.
Our sister property, Hotel Poco a Poco, offer guests the chance to enjoy the pool, jacuzzi, spa and restaurant!!
Monteverde Country Lodge is indeed the best value hotel within its range!!!
Thank you and happy travels!!!

Upon arrival to this hotel, via taxi via van ride from the lagoon! with driver waiting for me to take me to the hanging bridges place!! all the desk gal was concerned about was getting my credit card! The operator I planned to trip with had me booked for pick up at 12:20 and "tour" to start at 1pm. It was 12:45! Finally I told her that I just needed to leave the bags and come back later.
Yes, there was to be hot water in the shower. For a month, every time I searched for a room the first question and main concern was, "is there hot water?" Of course! surely there will be hot water! However, in the morning when I turned on the shower faucet the amount of water that came out was minimal tricals!! and NO hot water! not even warm! During the evening the weather had gone stormy and chilly. No heat in the room, not even a thermostat. At check out I asked for the credit card slip which had my whole length of numbers printed on it. "Oh, it isn't here. Know that we destroy all those slips!" and she showed me a basket with slips torn into 4 pieces!! Of course that made me feel really good and secure!!

Room Tip: I had mistakenly trusted the tour operator to book the room. He took nothing into consideration as to location....I, alone, being put way out in the country side! away from town and things to do. There are a ton of hotels in the Monteverde area to choose from including hostels which I would have been happier at. He never asked me what I was interested in, and logistics at the time disallowed my intervening. Be on guard!

I must admit that the Monteverde Country Lodge was surprising in this town full of hostel-like hotels, and many people travelling only with backpacks. It has fairly large grounds that are carefully landscaped, and there are all kinds of touches that lend it a resort-like feeling: little bistro tables and chairs, fountains, a large playground for the kids. There is even a sister hotel that allows you to use the indoor pool, though we didn't see the pool. Luckily, the price is very reasonable. The included breakfast was simple but hot and good. And the location within a quieter area of Monteverde is near to several good restaurants, a bakery, and a market. The staff almost goes overboard trying to please and to be polite. You're sure not out in the cloud forest, but you're close enough to see it from here.

The Monteverde Country Lodge is near "downtown" Santa Elena and is convenient to Monteverde area activities. (I had a rental car and do not know about other transportation.) The rooms and baths are large, clean and well appointed. I had only breakfast in the restaurant, and it was very good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only complaint was due to noisy foot traffic on the floor above during the night and early morning.

Dear Mrs. Mr Pavoga.
Thank you for your review. Noise isolation is among our more urgent improvements, we have actually started a renovations process as well as a noise reduction / isolation program specially on our classic rooms. Things well be much more quiet next season. We try our best to provide the best service, best experience and to show the old fashioned - Mountain style of hotels from the classic Monteverde. We do recommend our guests to book Superior rooms, not that Classic rooms are bad, they are just more basic.

The drive there was wild I have been on better tractor roads. But we got there and found it. Great service at desk very helpful. Room was very nice and clean. Unpacked and went to town to eat.
That night was awful. There is no insulation anywhere. The people upstairs were packing to leave.Bang crash bang scraptill midnight or more. Then dogs started whinning and crying all night. The front desk was closed and the front guy did not speak english. But he tried to help.
We went zip lining again after breakfast with the Extreme group. It was awesome. they took lots of pics and it included the tarzan swing and the superman line.
Next day had breakfast and took off for the airport.

Room Tip: No rooms have insulation so god luck but all were nice.
