My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in August for our honeymoon. I was a little concerned about staying here because of the negative reviews. However, I am pleased to say that our stay here was perfect. The lack a/c was not a problem as it was hot too hot, in fact it was chilly at night. I also read a review that they don't provide hair dryers, but you can request one at the front desk, free of charge. You have access to the swimming pool and spa which is nearby at their other hotel Poco a Poco. The room was very clean, including the bathroom. The property was also very clean and well kept. If you want to go to town it is like a $4 cab ride to town. The best part of this hotel is the great service from all of the staff at the hotel. They organized all of our tours and were very attentive. The best hotel for your money.

Dear Mrs 0305. Thank you for your review.
It is also hard for us to read some very harsh, very negative feedbacks, written with spite and hanger. Aren't guests supposed to be enjoying their selves? And further more; if they having a bad time, why don't they just approach front desk and speak up? We'll do what it takes to make things right or to provide them with more suitable accommodations...
We try our best to provide the best service, best experience and to show the old fashioned - Mountain style of hotels from the classic Monteverde. We do recommend our guests to book Superior rooms, not that Classic rooms are bad, they are just more basic.
Other hotel amenities, open grounds, corridors, balconies, playground and Costa Rican Style restaurant are excellent ways to enjoy your stay even more.
Our location, close to town yet, on a more quiet, relaxed area, allows to enjoy the town life, night life, tours, dining, shopping, and more, several choices of food, attractions and natural areas are very close by.
Our sister property, Hotel Poco a Poco, offer guests the chance to enjoy the pool, jacuzzi, spa and restaurant!!
Monteverde Country Lodge is indeed the best value hotel within its range!!!
Thank you and happy travels!!!

We had a nice stay here. The staff were very friendly and helpful booking tours. The rooms are really nice with a huge comfortable bed and nice bathroom. The restaraunt and buffet breakfast are quite good. You also get free access to the pool and jacuzzi at the sister hotel which is a few km away. It is a bit further out of town, but there are still many eating options. The only downfall to was that it didn't have very good soundproofing, so if someone was talking in the room next to you or even watching t, you could hear everything. Despite this, we had a really enjoyable stay and would still recommend this place

We visited Monteverde in mid July. We had learned from the visitor booth that Hotel Poco a Poco had a "brother hotel" in the area and decided to try it out (we love Hotel Poco a Poco for their superb service and amenities).

The staff were very friendly, courteous, and energetic. My children play piano and they invited them to play the keyboard they had set up in the reception area. Christian even invited my older son to try out the synthesizer in the restaurant and let him play in there for a while.

The place looks very nice and clean. Our room was upstairs, clean and very roomy, with two double beds and a twin bed which accommodated our family very comfortably. The only thing was the offending smell coming from the bathroom. It looked clean but I believe they may have a problem with their septic system. We kept the bathroom door closed to keep the smell from bothering us. However, every time we had to use the restroom it was a very unpleasant experience.

Their WiFi service worked really well.

With your paid stay, they'd let you use the heated pool and jacuzzi at Poco a Poco (about a kilometer away). The only thing is that you have to provide your own towel.

The complimentary breakfast is buffet style. It was ok, but not great. The cereals were stale and the coffee was quite weak (was expecting something better coming from a Costa Rican hotel).

Overall, the place is nice, quiet, and friendly.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room before you pay for it and make sure the bathroom doesn't smell bad. Or mention to them this problem with them before booking to see if they provide a room that doesn't smell.

This lodge is an ecofriendly lodge - so does not have a/c, fridges..etc that you may be accustomed to. What I do like about this place is that it feels like you are at a cottage and is very clean and the staff are friendly. The rooms can fit up to 6-8 people depending. The room we had - had two doubles and a bunk bed. Some rooms are more spacious than others.

Food - the restuarant provides healthy options that are home cooked. While you eat there is usually someone playing music for dinner.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back might be quieter - less people walking around.

We were hoping for something better. So, our main complaint with the hotel is that a dampness permeates the room. It is in dire need of a dehumidifier. Since there is no fan or no air conditioner, the dampness from the rain and cloud forest comes into the room and doesn't leave. There was a smell in our room reminiscent of damp, stinky camp clothes. We didn't check other rooms. We can only tell you that #12 had a problem.

The staff were lovely. They were very helpful to us all. The grounds were nice. I had expected something a bit more out of town. I think the name of the hotel is misleading. I would have preferred something a bit more outside of town.
