“A Great Hostel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2013

Sloth Backpackers is an amazing hostel. Having stayed at some not so nice places, this has definitely been one of my favorites. It was clean and comfortable, as well as really well priced ($10, with breakfast!). It also has a great kitchen. Good environment and very homey. The owners are incredibly nice and helpful and they even called the company we were going ziplining with to confirm reservations. I highly recommend staying here, also super close to the supermarket and bus station.

We stayed there two nights. The rooms are clean but very small. There are only two bathrooms for too much people. One shower was not working. The kitchen is well equiped, the breakfast and the coffee in the morning is very tasty!
The two girls of the hostel are very friendly and helpful. They offer a lot of tours.
We would recommend the coffee tour "El Trapiche".

We stayed for a few nights in the three bed dorm which was very cosy. We had it to ourselves whilst we were there, the beds were comfy, however one of the beds was under the eaves of a low ceiling so I wouldn't imagine it would be good if you're claustrophobic!!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. We booked two activities through them - a visit to santa Elena cloud forest which was beautiful, I recommend going, and on a santamaria night walk which was also good and we saw quite a few animals.

The breakfast was delicious and included with the room price. One morning we had pancakes with bananas and strawberrys, and the other we had toast, scrambled egg, watermelon and banana. Really good! There's also free tea and coffee.

The hostel is near the supermarket and has a good kitchen.

The only down side is that in monteverde itself there is not much to do if you don't do the activities. There is plenty of activities (canopy activities, cloud forest visits, coffee tours, snake centre and frog centre etc.) but nothing to do for free as there is not much going on in the town itself, so unless you plan to do lots of activities (& have lots of money!) then you only need a few days here really.

We spent two nights in this hostel and were very satisifed. Yorle's home turned into a hostel is painted with bright, beautiful colors. Such a friendly environment to be in. We bonded with the other people staying in the hostel so it definitely had a family-feel to it! Also, Yorle booked our activities for us and was more than happy to answers any questions. The location is perfect - next to a cheap, but tasty "Soda", as well as the local supermarket "Super Compro". I would recommend anyone traveling to Monte Verde should stay here. It was a great trip! :)

We were there for three nights/four days, and it´s a really nice hostel, we enjoyed our time in Monteverde a lot through staying there. The owner Yorle is very friendly and kind, and helped up a lot with our plans for activities to do. Her local knowledge is very useful! She also helps guests with travel plans after Monteverde. The hostel is a little crazy when it´s very full, but still nice with clean rooms for three people. Breakfast is also very yum, and all in all the hostel feels like a home!

Even this is great hostel I moved after one day to stay with my friend in other hostel I as I did not like that the common area/kitchen closes at 21.30 and in you want to stay in hostel it means you have to be in your room. However the dorm room, kitchen and bathrooms are very clean, the owner friendly and help full. The hostel is not far away from Santa Elena downtown, about minutes from the bust station and 300 meters from supermarket. The dorm price is just 8$ but does not include the pancake breakfast which is 2 bucks more. Still good value for money.

We spent two nights here in January and wish we could've stayed longer. The location was very good, just a block away from the town center, and safe. The owner, Yorle, is personable, makes good recommendations on the best activities, and speaks English. She goes out of her way to accommodate guests. The breakfast was good, hot, fresh, and different each morning. We liked the community feeling of the central kitchen area. The views out the kitchen window overlook a verdant valley and a stream. Overall an excellent budget accommodation.
