“Pretty awesome for kids!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

Two young kids (almost 3yo and 1) loved it VERY much. Train was neat. Guide explained lots of flora and fauna but could not answer all of our questions. At end of railways, they offered cookie with either coffee or sugar water, plus little loop hike, and view of Arenal volcano and Arenal lake. Would recommend it.

“Not many places like this”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

You probably won't find another place like this as it is a rain forest but higher in the mountains so it is cool even in the summer. Best to go during the spring when it is still the dry season. If you go in the fall it will be wet all the time. Be prepared for a lot of walking. And don't forget the last 20 K of road is not paved so it is very bumpy takes about an hour to slug through this experience. The town of Santa Elena has paved roads but Monteverde does not. There are a lot of great places to stay some for all budgets. Taxi's are reasonable and they know where they are going. Many of them speak some English and if you stay for any length of time you will see people you have met at the store or on the road. Everyone either knows everyone or is related to someone. There are many great places to hike. Some are guided hikes. You will see some of the most interesting animals. Some fly, some crawl. Monkeys, Toucans, Parrots, all kinds of beasty.

“So much fun - especially for kids and anyone who wants easy access to the cloud forest.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2013

This trip was surprisingly fun. The trains are new and polished to a gleam, the terminal is first class (I hear the food is good, though we were on the 3pm tour so did not sample it,) the guides friendly and informative, and the trip through the rain forest was absolutely beautiful and delightfully relaxing after days of hiking in other parts of Costa Rica. At the far end, we were greeted with fresh coffee and cookies before taking a short, easy hike in the high cloud forest. On some days you can see Arenal volcano in the distance. Highly recommended for kids and anyone who may have difficulty with longer hikes, but fun for everyone. Very well done.

“Little Train through the Clouds.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2013

This is a hidden gem!! It is at the end of the road after all of the other adventure sky walks and canopy rides. It is great for families with smaller children, older people who can't zip through the trees, and even the handicapped. It is a little narrow gauge railroad that goes down the mountain. They sever hot drinks and cookies. There is a short guided trek through the cloud forest, then the train spins around and up the mountain again. It was great fun, we loved it!!!!

“Great for little kids!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

This was a great little excursion for our young kids (ages 4 & 2). A cute little train going through a very cool rain forest and our guide was great. I think they only thing I would suggest is they have more transport available. We would have liked to stay for lunch as it looked yummy and we were definitely ready to eat, but the transport van was leaving immediately and our only options was to wait 2 hours for the next one.
