“My favourite accomodation in Costa Rica!”
Reviewed February 16, 2014 via mobile

This was by far one of my favourite accommodation experiences! I was sad to stay only 3 nights! Jose is an exceptional manager; upgraded our room for free, helped us planning tours (gave great advice) and was just a friendly face to chat with everyday. Even helped us with our Spanish! The breakfast every morning is exceptional, always free coffee/tea and you can use the kitchen as well ! Bonus for backpackers! The supermarket is 5 minutes away and it's far enough away that it's nice and quiet at night. We very much enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this place if you ever find yourself in Monteverde!

Firstly, I'm not sure why this is called a bed a breakfast. There is a bed, and they do make breakfast, however I think that's where it ends. The owner does not live or host there, nor make breakfast. The woman cooking breakfast is very sweet, and the breakfast is ok. The room was cozy and small, but clean. The bathroom was awful. The toilet was leaking with big puddles forming on the floor. The hot water was nonexistent. The higher the pressure, the colder the water. As soon as you raise the water pressure above a trickle, freezing water pours out. The beds were very uncomfortable with threadbare linen. There was this extremely thin stained sheet between the mattress and myself.

Thanks to the manager José, my travel buddy and I had an amazing time at Camino Verde. José upgraded us without charge, set us up with some awesome tours, and not to mention, was extremely charming, charismatic and friendly. This bed and breakfast had free, unlimited coffee and tea ALL DAY, six different complementarity breakfast options to chose from (eggs, toast, fresh fruit, rice and beans, pancakes etc). Above all of this, the place had a great, fully equipped kitchen that was available for us to use, wine and beer off sales, was only a 5 min walk to the super store, rooms are very cozy and comfortable, not to mention quite, annndd hot water showers!!
All on all, an amazing place to stay.

Jose was an unbelievable host for my husband and I at Camino Verde. He was attentive, but not pushy, helped us plan all our activities while in Costa Rica, and even saved us $100 by telling us the rafting trip we wanted to do would provide transportation between cities. Additionally, the design of Camino Verde makes it easy to meet other guests and share stories over a cup of coffee, if you would like. It was just a fun, laid back kind of place, perfect for vacationing. The shared kitchen space is also helpful for those who feel like cooking. I would definitely stay here again and feel incredibly grateful to the staff and Jose.

Jose and the staff at Camino Verde B&B are outstanding… we stayed for three nights with a 10, 7 & 3 year old. We didn't follow Jose's written directions and relied on our GPS to drive in from San Jose - BIG mistake (two hours out of our way, arriving past 10pm)! Instead of having me go through the entire check-in/payment process… Jose could tell we were exhausted and just handed me a key to my room and said to see him in the morning after sleeping/breakfast! Who does that for a complete stranger? Fantastic service!!

Breakfast - tasty and cooked to order
WiFi - excellent even in our room
Downtown - 5 minute walk
Very clean - safe too

Jose helped us select and book all of our activities and his suggestions were perfect for our family: Selvatura (zip line/hummingbirds/suspended bridge walk), Cloud Forest Reserve hike and El Trapiche (coffee, chocolate and sugar cane tour).

I stayed here for 4 nights. We had booked a two bedroom with shared bathroom for the entirety of the stay, however for the first two nights we were given a free upgrade to a room with an ensuite bathroom. The first room was in the Hotel El Altardecer section and the second was in the Camino Verde section.

The first room was much nicer. It was spacious, as was the bathroom. It was cleaned quite thoroughly, had a little patio with rocking chairs, and the window overlooked a flower lined walkway. The only downsides were that the room was dimly lit and had very thin walls and ceiling so unfortunately we could hear people waking around above us late into the night and early in the morning. However, I would recommend staying in this section if you request a second floor room.

The second room was quite small. It had next to no room other than narrow walkways and as one of the beds wad a bunk bed it felt quite crowded. No windows opened and there was a strange smell in the room so it was difficult to air out. The walls were much thicker and there is only one floor though so my sleep itself was uninterrupted. Unfortunately there appeared to be a total of one restroom and one shower for the building. While there weren't a lot of rooms, this was worrisome when I was in a hurry, although I only had to wait once.

The breakfast was very good. The food was the same in both sides however the breakfast room at Camino Verde was much nicer, with smaller tables as opposed to banquet style, and the morning sun coming through nicely. The hours for breakfast are a bit early as they end at 8:30. However getting food cooked to order is great, and free coffee and tea all day was very nice.

I would say stay here, definitely. The staff is wonderful! They booked cheap activities for us any time we wanted and had great recommendations not to mention were nice as well as funny. The staff is the best part by far!

The hotel was super awesome. It was a little hotel run by this family and passed down for two generations. They collected different types of bottles and put the bottom half of it in patterns into cement. It added a bright and intriguing feel to the hotel. The bad thing about it was that it didn't have a parking lot near it.The parking lot was park of his grandmas house.
