Small resort, nice walks, easy going. Great opportunity to spot birds. A bit of shame you see some capucin monkeys in a cage

“Plenty of Wildlife”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2013

Curu was a great park to visit. We saw white-faced capuchin monkeys, howler monkeys, spider monkeys being rehabilitated, lots of iguana-like lizards, a coati, and an agouti all in an approx. 2km walk. The walk we did was in the trees, so mostly protected from the sun. The beach is lovely and nice for swimming. We also enjoyed a basic lunch there.

“Guided Jungle Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

We used Dive Academy Ballena Blanca to book this excursion and had a wonderful guide: Milton. Milton was also our guide for a snorkeling adventure we booked through Dive Academy. The company provided transportation to & from our hotel. We drove to CURU National Park and had a guided walking tour in the jungle. There were other large groups there, but just four plus our guide in ours. It was very cool to have such a knowledgeable native educating & explaining so much to us in intricate details. Milton has a rich family history and personal experience with the wildlife and culture of Costa Rica which made our excursion that much more enjoyable & educational. We were able to see some incredible & rare wildlife including the White-faced monkeys, Howler Monkeys, the "Drunk Butterfly", Jesu-Christo Lizard, Agouti, and Motmot. We also learned about the Saba & Guanacasta trees and wild boar (no boar sightings, but it's scent told us it was nearby!) Fabulous tour thanks to Dive Academy Ballena Blanca S.A.

“Love the Monkeys”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2013

Primarily we went to Curu to see the monkeys and any other interesting wildlife. After hiking a couple of the shorter trails and not seeing much wildlife, we took the "Spider Monkey" trail which was much further back down the road on the way into the park. This definitely paid off...we took a side trail and ended up being able to see (well we heard him first from a ways off) a Howler monkey making his way across the tree tops. Awesome when you've never seen monkeys in the wild. He hung out on a branch and had a good look as us for a while til he moved on. More came by and we ended up back into the main information centre and looked up from the recycling bins to see about 10 monkeys hanging out the tree above us. Another area along the road we were able to see several more in the lower trees...we were within about 5 feet of one guy that was having a good snack on a lime-shaped fruit - didn't seemed bothered by us and went about his business. Great experience!
