Before your stay at Clandestino Beach Resort, it is important to know:

• That it is not possible to swim in the sea there. It is rough and dangerous. "Only to the ankle" the owner told us, giving us survival skills in the waves when we arrived. She has built a swimming pool to accommodate swimmers and to avoid rescue at sea.

• The "resort" is protected by six guard dogs who sniff our crotch (!) on arrival. This protocol gives us the security, as we also explained the owner. After few hours, we were frozen by one of her dogs, barking furiously at us blocking the passage on the beach. It did not recognize us... We owe them that respect, their noses up on our plates at the restaurant.

• This strip of land is littered with "resorts" abandoned. The path to get to Clandestino is an alignment of ruins of hotels.

• There is no accommodation in the vicinity. The "resort" isolated (7 km from Parrita) is the only option for all our needs. With its menu and prices.

• Although, the only server doing everything he can to accommodate everyone at meal time, there should be some time to reserve for eating.

• The prices given on the booking site does not include taxes.

• The owner told us very little good comments of costaricians, who are its employees yet.

We travel to Costa Rica for several years. We had to witness these unusual facts. This country is easy and welcoming and is a preferred destination for its many beaches where it is pleasant and safe to swim freely. It is also a country where live safely, and where lunches are all hearty and filled with fresh fruit...

Mr./Mrs. Corteza, it is always nice to know what our guests think about our work, but it is always very sad to see how some people dont appreciate the beauty of this special spot in Costa Rica. Since you have travelled a lot in Costa Rica, you should have noticed that there are abandoned hotels and buildings everywhere, not only in our beach. Clandestino Beach Resort project was build in Palo Seco beach because this is a unique and secluted beach, perfect for couples, group of friends and families wanting to get away and enjoy good food, nature and good company.
It is always important to mention that the Pacific ocean is not for swimming, but you can enjoy it anyway, with the possibility of swimming in a 30meters beachfront pool (turtle shaped). It is our responsability to tell our guests about the risks, always thinking about the safety of our clients.
We also want to remind you that Clandestino Beach Resort has a project with the local fishermen, we appreciate how costaricians work, that is why 95% of our employees are from Costa Rica. We like Costa Rica, we like local people and this is why we moved from Europe to this unique and amazing place with amazing people and we are very happy about it.
Pura vida!

How to get there:
As of the time of this review, this resort was not on NavSat maps (Costa Rica's GPS map supplier.) If you have a GPS, the exact coordinates are N 9.48247, W 84.28223, but the roads leading to the property were nowhere to be found on our GPS. If you're coming from Jaco there's a sign on the right side of road 34 just after Parrita with hotel name. You will then have to travel about 10 KM or so on unpaved roads to get to the property.
The hotel is located across the Palo Seco beach road, just 20 meters from the beach (unlike other countries, hotels in CR can’t be built directly on the beach) The hotel is built with bamboo and wonderfully decorated, the rooms are spacious, clean, chic and offer quality bath items that you would expect in a 4 start establishment. Each room has a hammock and a swinging chair with good privacy. The Palo Seco beach is unspoiled, lined with coconut palm trees and is breathtaking to say the least. If you seek solitude, you can walk for hours in either direction and not encounter a soul.
We never dined at the hotel, so I can't rate the food. Manuel Antonio is a 25-30 minutes drive and offer fantastic restaurants with amazing views so that's what we did every night. The breakfast at the hotel was modest, not a buffet and you only get to choose between American (2 eggs, bacon) Tico (2 eggs, rice, beans and cheese) or continental (a plate of fruits and a toast)
We initially booked one night on Expedia, but when we got there the place was so lovely that we decided to stay two more nights. Cecilia and Diana (the owner) were so sweet and Diana told us they have a room available at the same rate but we have to change rooms, when we asked Cecilia why, we were told "that's how the system works". It was OK, we didn't mind.
At checkout time, to our surprise, the two extra nights were charged at a higher rate (extra $33 per night) and we were also charged for breakfast although breakfast was included in my initial booking. After a short discussion with Cecilia, she stated that only continental breakfast is included in the room rate and the American/Tico breakfast is extra. When I explained that no one told us this simple fact when we ordered breakfast, she insisted that my booking through Expedia should have mentioned a continental breakfast and "I don't want to be rude, but you should know what a continental breakfast is"!!
Despite the attitude and that my booking on Expedia clearly indicated a "Breakfast plan", I offered to show my Expedia booking to no avail. When I explained that Diana mentioned the extra two nights would be charged at the same rate as the initial night, and she (Cecilia) never mentioned any changes in the room rate, we got a lot of explanations about why Expedia rate is cheaper. When I told her that I regretfully have to mention what happened in my review, she offered to drop the breakfast charge but "The room rate is already charged to your credit card and I can’t refund you the difference." Some more talk and she apologised for the "misunderstanding, but this is already done". When I explained that apology doesn't really fix anything, she just left us standing there!!
Needless to say this spoiled what would otherwise have been a perfect stay. I can't agree more with other reviewers on here regarding management/customer service at this facility. They seem to think they’re doing a great job and don’t want to listen to what customers are saying; qualities that don’t really make for a great resort. On the other hand if you don’t encounter any issues with management, I’m sure you’ll have a great time.

Dear guest, thank you very much for appreciating our decoration, rooms and Palo Seco beach area, it was nice having you as our guest in the hotel. We also appreciate the coordinates that you gave on your review, we are not in the Navsat GPS system because we were waiting for ICT (Instituto Costarricence de Turismo) to have our first official visit (since we are a new hotel) and they are going to give us the exact coordenates, on this same week we are going to be on the system.
It is important to clarify that Expedia always sends a confirmation email with all the specifications, type of breakfast, what is included, what is not included, the rates, etc. We changed our rates a couple weeks ago, and that is why we had this confusion. The hotel was full while you were here, we were expecting other guests for next day in that room (who booked in advanced) and that is why you were able to stay on that room just 1 night, I mentioned the room changed when you ask me for 2 extra nights.
Thank you very much for your review, it was a pleasure having you here and we hope that you remember more the positive things than the negatives.
Pura vida!

The Clandestino Beach resort is a diamond in the rough. Having traveled several times to Costa Rica, we were very pleased when we arrived at the resort. Cecilia, the manager was very sweet when we arrived late due to traffic issues. The resort is immaculate and the interior of the rooms well designed with comfortable beds and great privacy.
The resort is only a few months old and it does not seem as though they have a good grasp on the hotel business.
First, we LOVE dogs and truly love being around them. The owner of the resort has numerous sweet dogs for "protection", but unfortunately they do not control the barking at night. When we mentioned not sleeping because of the dogs, they said that they needed them for protection. If that is the case; is it a safe place to stay? I had not had that happen before.
Also, there was a local power outage for about 24 hours; it happens...we understand. We were not offered bottled water or asked if we were OK. We did get a great rate on the hotel, so I really can't complain (other than this was the second wedding anniversary in the last five years tha we have not had water in Costa Rica). They did not offer water for our toilet tanks until about 18 hours after the power outage after we made the suggestion.
The last night drinks were ordered at the pool and it took over an hour for them to arrive (there are only 12 units or so?). The drink came to our room and melted, but we were still billed.
It will be interesting to see how this place makes it. It is either going to be a 4 store resort or bankrupt within a couple of years. Cecilia seems to know what is going on, but the owner seems to be a little clueless when it comes to customer service. Would we go back? No...not a risk we are willing to take. But, it may be the best experience that you ever have.

Dear Guest, sorry you had to spend a moment of discomfort when we had the problem of electricity. The problem with electricity was in the entire area of Parrita, it was a very serious injury that took a long time to solve, we explained you that ironically 2 days after we installed the light generator (we are a new hotel and day by day we are buying and installing things to give a more complete hotel to our guests), we are very sorry if we didnt give you the best service on this situation, we will consider your comments. It is very sad for us to read your prediction about our hotel, so we invite you to visit us in 2 or 3 years and we are more than sure that we will be here working hard as always and trying to give the best we can.

My husband and I have residency in Costa Rica just outside of Parrita and last year we watched this hotel being built not knowing what it was going to become. A few weeks ago we had seen the new billboard for Clandestino Hotel so we drove down to Palo Seco to have grab some lunch on the beach. It is 5 miles off the main road in Parrita and it seems endless if you have never been there before. But you will be pleasantly surprised!Always a scenic adventure in and of itself passing the small friendly village and the river and the shrimp farm and the estuary and then driving down the long beach road and WOW, what a gorgeous place that construction site has become. The owner, Diana, has done a wonderful job building a beautiful and peaceful and remote get away hotel. We had an amazing lunch with the friendly waiter and toured the hotel and spoke to the owner. We were shocked at how low the room prices are for such a wonderful place. The food was excellent and priced similar to the nicer beachfront hotels in our area. The guests seemed to really be enjoying themselves and we would recommend it highly.

Room Tip: I would ask for a pool side room as the others are in the back of the property and probably have more bugs and less breeze.

We arrived at through online recommendations and we were disappointed. Ssiliih's reception was excellent. Good hotel convenient and luxurious. 15 meters from the ocean + pool. Net. Huge rooms. Good food. It's hard to get and therefore the city ask the way or you pass the bridge and immediately turn right four miles to the ocean and turn left four miles to the hotel.
No need to sleep close to park expensive prices. We sent all our hotel site and we published all the spade
