Clandestino Beach Resort
Ranked #2 of 4 Hotels in Parrita
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 2, 2012

Hi All, I was at Clandestino last week in December and despite being full it only has 12 rooms. My observations about this resort are as follow:
-The hotel infrastructure is wonderful and in accord with the beach setting with lots of bamboo and natural elements, certainly a prelude for a very relaxing vacation.
-The pool is turtle shaped with a cascade wall on the side, it has a shallow area for kids to play safely and that I liked a lot.
-The way the buildings are set up gives you total privacy and the sidewalks are enclosed by gardens of many local ornamental plants.
-The beach is right there!, just cross the gravel road and a small gazebo shack with hammocks is the perfect place to see the waves. Look at the right and the left as far as your eyes can see...you may see at the most 4 people walking....we're talking miles and miles of peace.
Now...let talk about the service:
I have decided to give a poor rating because a place as beautiful as this should always be hand on hand with outstanding guest services.
-The receptionist walked us to our room and said that something was wrong with the TV and that she didn’t know if it was fixed or not. The resort only had 4 local channels available while the other resorts around the area had satellite. What I didn’t like wasn’t the fact that there were only 4 channels available, it was the fact that she didn’t say anything more regarding the TV or informed us about the signal availability.
The restaurant service was not constant and a high end place requires being consistent with their service and their standards. For example: day one we were served a cup of 4 oz of OJ, the next day 8 oz.; one evening the server said to me that the Clandestino Burger had like 3 types of cheese, I opted for pasta instead but the next day I did asked for the burger and I was completely disappointed, cheese was not the greatest attribute on the burger, in fact…it had 3/4 of a slice, tomato was green, and the lettuce had brown spots…the patty was dry.
The service was slow and not the best. I don’t blame the servers. The receptionist and the owner not once approached us and asked us how was the stay, if we needed anything else, how can we improve….nothing. There were 4 large dogs walking around including in the restaurant, pooping near the hammocks and drinking out of the pool…..that was not appealing to me at all.
Ran out of bottle water in the restaurant so no immediate actions were takes despite having a tiny little grocery shop at 100 yards were they did had water. For foreigners, bottle water is a must.
I just felt that service was completely absent and could’ve marked an enormous difference in our vacation. Thankfully we were able to enjoy it at the most leaving aside the service issue. I give the place no stars in customer service, everything else was wonderful. I will go back for sure, but only with a mindset that customer service will be my last expectation.

Room Tip: All the rooms have independant exists that don't face each other....go naked if you want! Insta...

This was our first stop in Costa Rica and we really should never have left. We had originally booked for two nights but stayed three nights. It's so lovely here. The people are wonderful. We loved the lazy dogs. The pool is fantastic. The rooms are excellent. It was SOOOO relaxing.

We had wanderlust so we left for the Arenal volcano (which we could not see) and the Caribbean side (which is much more humid and jam-packed with mosquitoes).

Definitely take the offered boat ride through the Mangroves. It was a highlight of our trip. So many monkeys and birds and crocodiles.

The only downsides (if you can call them that): The TV never picked up a channel. This was no big deal as you don't want to watch TV whilst there, I promise. And the wifi only worked in the outside restaurant/bar area (which was perfectly fine, as hanging out there is as comfy as hanging in your room, probably more so because of the wonderful company).

The room we stayed in (king-sized bed) had a a refrigerator and was gorgeous. The bed is very comfortable and so are the beddings. There is air conditioning in the room. The bathroom is amazing with the rock walls. This was also the least expensive place we stayed in Costa Rica. Hotels costing twice as much were not as nice.

It's very secluded so you can leisurely walk down the beach (black soft sand) for eons and never run into anyone else. When I think of Costa Rica I will always think of Clandestino.

Room Tip: We had room #12 and it was great because it faced away from the action (the restaurant/bar) but was...

We had only two days here and one rained. The beach is extremely secluded. Amazing that such a long stretch of beach felt undiscovered which of course can't be true. We walked for long stretches by ourselves! Downside is that there is not much around the area except for the resort. The rooms were modern and unique with great swing chairs that we used while it rained. I loved the cool shower. My husband didn't like the colour of the pool but I didn't mind it. Palo Seco was definitely not a touristy place. Very isolated and cool for that reason. Great value for the beautiful room.

My husband, daughter and I were thrilled to spend time at Palo Seco's newest resort ~ Clandestino. The venue is breath taking ~ with its natural design & architecture, proximity to miles of white sand beaches and our favourite: world-class waves in every direction, including right outside our front door. The accommodations are five star and the grounds are reminiscent of what we love about Costa Rica ~ its natural beauty. The service we received was again, five star all the way through, from our booking arrangements, airport pickup, area tours, to the end of our stay as we returned to the airport.

Clandestino's restaurant offers a wonderful menu and a great bar to enjoy new company and the spectacular sights of this wonder, particularly the pool and grounds. We definitely recommend Clandestino to all of our friends and family, and will look forward to returning again over the Christmas holidays.

5 ***** plus!

Thank you to all for an unforgettable experience
