Hi All, I was at Clandestino last week in December and despite being full it only has 12 rooms. My observations about this resort are as follow:
-The hotel infrastructure is wonderful and in accord with the beach setting with lots of bamboo and natural elements, certainly a prelude for a very relaxing vacation.
-The pool is turtle shaped with a cascade wall on the side, it has a shallow area for kids to play safely and that I liked a lot.
-The way the buildings are set up gives you total privacy and the sidewalks are enclosed by gardens of many local ornamental plants.
-The beach is right there!, just cross the gravel road and a small gazebo shack with hammocks is the perfect place to see the waves. Look at the right and the left as far as your eyes can see...you may see at the most 4 people walking....we're talking miles and miles of peace.
Now...let talk about the service:
I have decided to give a poor rating because a place as beautiful as this should always be hand on hand with outstanding guest services.
-The receptionist walked us to our room and said that something was wrong with the TV and that she didn’t know if it was fixed or not. The resort only had 4 local channels available while the other resorts around the area had satellite. What I didn’t like wasn’t the fact that there were only 4 channels available, it was the fact that she didn’t say anything more regarding the TV or informed us about the signal availability.
The restaurant service was not constant and a high end place requires being consistent with their service and their standards. For example: day one we were served a cup of 4 oz of OJ, the next day 8 oz.; one evening the server said to me that the Clandestino Burger had like 3 types of cheese, I opted for pasta instead but the next day I did asked for the burger and I was completely disappointed, cheese was not the greatest attribute on the burger, in fact…it had 3/4 of a slice, tomato was green, and the lettuce had brown spots…the patty was dry.
The service was slow and not the best. I don’t blame the servers. The receptionist and the owner not once approached us and asked us how was the stay, if we needed anything else, how can we improve….nothing. There were 4 large dogs walking around including in the restaurant, pooping near the hammocks and drinking out of the pool…..that was not appealing to me at all.
Ran out of bottle water in the restaurant so no immediate actions were takes despite having a tiny little grocery shop at 100 yards were they did had water. For foreigners, bottle water is a must.
I just felt that service was completely absent and could’ve marked an enormous difference in our vacation. Thankfully we were able to enjoy it at the most leaving aside the service issue. I give the place no stars in customer service, everything else was wonderful. I will go back for sure, but only with a mindset that customer service will be my last expectation.
