“Beautiful property with wonderful service and stunning grounds”
Reviewed August 13, 2014

What a great little boutique hotel! I don't remember the name of our room but it was large and airy, overlooking the pool and with a beautiful outdoor bathroom. The design is very minimal meets sri lankan, lots of wood and slate. The pool is just stunning and the whole Frangipani vibe, laid back cool. There's a tree at the end of the pool where at night literally hundreds of birds come to roost for the night. It's quite spectacular listening and watching them flock to the tree. With the sea just behind them we loved watching this every day!
We didn't eat any meals here apart from breakfast, which was just perfect. When you have kids in tow, uttering the word 'pancakes' is always a benefit to any hotel. Generally we would lounge around for breakfast and then fo to the beach at Wijaya and come back and use the pool in the afternoon. The breakfast included plates of fruit and all the usual cooked stuff likes eggs and bacon. All served on a bit table in the courtyard area.
For anyone scared of creepy crawlies, the bathroom may not be for you. Yes things move. No nothing will attack you apart from the odd mossie. We love outdoor bathrooms so this was a bonus for us and very beautifully designed.
The hotel is perfectly situated for exploring the area if you don't want to stay in Galle itself, its just a short tuk tuk or taxi ride away.
Our room was a great size for a family of 4 and we had the extra beds for the kids next to our bed on the floor. We didn't have any issues with mosquito's but be vigilent just in case.
The grounds are very pretty, but the sea we didn't find very swimmable. There are fisherman just outside of the gate to the left ans that's pretty lovely to watch and photograph.
This area of Sri Lanka is beautiful and if you're looking for a beautifully designed boutique hotel that won't break the bank, Frangipani is perfect. We look forward to returning soon.

Room Tip: We overlooked the pool and it was fine but if we do go back we would opt for a sea view room for the...

And of course fabulous infinity pool. It would be a little churlish to bemoan not being able to swim in the ocean when you have such a great pool but you are always aware of its powerful presence. Lovely couple who manage Frangipani couldn't be more helpful

This was our first hotel (of six) for 2 week visit to Sri Lanka. Lovely atmosphere, we stayed in Hawksbill family suite. Great outdoor bathrooms. Had a little trouble with the aircon which they went out of their way to fix immediately. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Enjoyed our first of many rice and curries, always the best option, breakfast was good too. Beautiful beach but not for swimming, nice pool though.

We hosted a reception dinner at the Frangipani Tree for our friends who had come from more than 20 different countries to celebrate our wedding with us. The event exceeded our expectations in every way. Through the whole planning process we felt well taken care off. We met multiple times with the owner for food tastings and for the selection of the different dinner courses. The managers Justyna and Wojciech as well as the rest of the staff did an amazing job with decorations and last minute preparations and made sure our guests felt at home. The service was great and the food delicious and all our guests had a very good time. A memorable evening for sure.

We rented the whole place for three nights so we could have a few more relaxing days with close friends and family. We loved falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the waves. The Frangipani Tree is an elegant boutique hotel. The look and feel of the whole place is a pleasure. The rooms are very spacious and tastefully designed and furnished with spectacular outdoor bathrooms. You can’t swim in the sea in front of the hotel, but if you are lucky you get to spot turtles playing in the water.

All in all we had an amazing time and I highly recommend this place! Again a big thank you to the Frangipani crew for making our stay such a wonderful experience.

We stayed at the Frangipani Tree for 3 nights at the end of our trip to Sri Lanka. It was a lovely, relaxing way to spend the last couple of nights. It is a stunning, beach front hotel with enormous rooms, a beautiful outlook and friendly staff. The included breakfast was delicious - fresh curd, fruit, eggs, bacon and sausages.

If you are after a hotel in the centre of Unawatuna, this is not the place for you. The beach at the front of the hotel is not suitable for swimming, and it will cost you 400 rupees each way to get to Unawatuna, and 750 to get to Galle. We were more than happy to pay that to avoid the crowds of tourists, and it was a great feeling to come back to our beautiful room with only the sound of the surf to listen to.

We loved every minute, and hope to go back!

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor have excellent views and seem to be a lot larger.

We stayed at the Frangipani Tree for 1 week and we had the most wonderful holiday!
The rooms are beautiful. We stayed in Olive Ridley 3 which was a lovely big room as we have 2 young children. They added in a cot and a small bed both with mosquito nets for the children.
The kids had fun in the pool and build sand castles on the beach.
The food was authentic and very good. We especially loved the lobster and prawn curries and the breakfast was super.
Justyna the manager was very helpful suggesting places for us to visit.
We will hopefully be back very soon!
