“lovely place, thoroughly recommend”
Reviewed April 30, 2013 via mobile

lovely pool, nice setting, great breakfast. We had a family cabana which had two lovely big beds with mosquito nets, air con, fridge, tv and fans. Huge bathroom and nice hot shower. Yes, as others have mentioned the spa bath would have taken a million years to fill, so if that is a priority you might reconsider, but we didn't care, we got the deluxe room only to fit four of us in and to have air con. Pool was a godsend for hot kids. Wifi works near the pool. It's about 5-10 slow nice stroll to beach proper, which given the touristy, busy, feel of the beach front was probably the best if you wanted a quiet location. Driveway really narrow which gave our driver palpitations but was fine. Yes, there are a couple of german shepherds wandering about but they look placid and were absolutely no problem. Thoroughly recommend.

Great garden setting, lovely swimming pool, nice and clean bungalows/rooms, pretty veranda and restaurant area. Everything is good here, altough some of the staff members sometimes didn't really seem very, well, clever? We told one the toilet in the restaurant was stuck, and well, 'stuff' didn't flush away. He understood our remark, but didn't realy do anything about it, nor did he warn a collague. Afraid on other guests finding out the same problem later, we had to tell another guy the same problem for them to do something about it. Also, we had a leek in our AC, which dropped water all night. The respons to that also was quite, well, slow. But hey, maybe they had a bad day and we just happened to ask the wrong guys. Still a lovely place, altough be warned: lots of families and young kids playing around the pool. If you're in for an undisturbed read, think twice.

The owner Sassi still cooks in the kitchen which says a lot about how he runs Tge Flower Garden. He really cares about everything that goes on. My husband had a free cooking lesson. The kitchen is spotless, the food is the best in the area for dinner. The pool is exceptionally well looked after. Rooms are very clean and air conditioned. It's a shirt walk to the beach but you get to walk past all the little shops. The flower Garden is also really well situated for Tuk Tuk trips to Galle and Surrounding beaches. We had a lovely stay here. Very sad to leave. Thank you Sassi! Nikki

Lovely hotel catering to tourists. I had thought we would be closer to the beach but in saying that, it was only a 5 minute walk.
Our cabana was well equipped but the shower was a bit lacking. Pressure lousy and water cold. We did report the cold water and someone did come to look at it. This was in the middle of the day so of course the water felt warm. Next morning....cold.
Lovely pool area even though it is very public. Right near reception and restaurant.
Staff are excellent and very hardworking. The whole place is kept meticulously clean.
Breakfast is standard for Sri Lanka. We dined in the restaurant 1 night and it was very good.
Wifi only near reception but this does include the pool area.
Good place to stay if you don't mind being right on the beach.

We have just returned from a 7 night stay and would highly recommend the hotel. It is located down a quiet lane yet only a 5 minute walk from the fabulous beach. We booked a cabana, which was clean, spacious and well equipped. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is either an excellent choice of fruit followed by toast and eggs any style. Or if feeling adventurous you can have a Sri Lankan breakfast (must be ordered a day in advance). We had 3 good evening meals in the restaurant, which has something for everyone. The pool area is well shaded so if you are seeking the sun, the beach is the place for you. However when we were there it was close to 40c so shade was welcome. Look out the wildlife around the hotel with a troop of monkeys that visit from time to time. Unawatuna is the perfect resort to rest after an island tour, a good choice of shops, bars and places to eat. There are no ATM's, however any visit must include a trip to Galle a 300 rupee tuk tuk or 20 rupee bus ride (the bus stop is just 150metres away on the main road). As a cautionary note, don't use the laundry basket in your room unless you want a bill. Overall a great hotel in the best beach resort in South Sri Lanka.

The Hotel Flower Garden looks great, but it looks better than it really is. The pool is nice the staff is great and the food is good, but the details, especially in the new wing need some work. There are beautiful new tubs, but the water fills it too slowly. The spouts on the sink are so low you can't wash your hands easily. Overall though the place is a good value for a nice place to stay.
