“A true Sri Lankan experience”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

The food is amazing, best curry in Sri Lanka.. Great staff, Asanka, the owner, is friendly, helpful and welcoming. When you go to Eco Cafe, you become part of the family.

Must try: rice and curry (especially pumpkin curry), fruit salad, mixed salad. Daily specials never disappoint!

Had no problem finding gluten free, dairy free and vegan options!!

“Burned Rotty are the "real ones", no choice and no refund”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

We slept too late for hoppers, and settled on sitting outside at the nice-looking Eco Café at the edge of the village for breakfast. It had a breakfast menu on a chalkboard, but we were told that there were only fruit rotty available (not on menu). We were quickly shown one made for another customer. Being hungry, we ordered 4 of them (one each). They came out 45 min later, black with charcoal on the bottom (obviously burned) and could not be eaten. When we complained, the staff insisted they were as they should be. We explained that we had had good (not black) rotty down the street the day before, to which he told that those other (not-burned ones) were not the "real ones"! He was willing to forego payment for one, while asking us for 400 LKR EACH for the remaining 3!
Meanwhile, a woman who came after us ordered scrambled eggs and toast, and got them (before we got our rotty).
I would recommend that you starve until dinner rather than eat breakfast at the Eco Café.
