Elephant Rock Cottage is a beautiful place in a secluded location, yet very close to the main road to Unawatuna and Galle. Traffic-wise it is well connected. Jungle Beach is in walking distance. We had the upper floor room and loved it. It has two showers, one semi-outdoors, and a balcony, from where you can watch life in the canopies of the surrounding trees (you can also do that from inside, through the class front). There are no elephants there, but we saw lots of squirrels. The spacious room has an airy feeling. It is nice to lie in bed and look up to the beautiful wooden pyramid roof. Breakfast (charged extra) is served on a separate terrace in front of the kitchen-building, which also contains a washing machine. Sumi, the very charming, knowledgeable and capable host, his parents, his wife and their sweet daughter live on the adjacent property. It is a joy to be in their company. All in all very relaxing, highly recommended and at present rates still reasonably priced.

Toby and I had the best experience at Elephant Rock Cottage. We could not recommend staying here highly enough. We stayed in the ground floor villa for 5 nights, and had the most relaxing and enjoyable time. The location is perfect to catch a bus or tuk tuk into galle, and the many surrounding beaches.. you can can also walk to unawatuna and jungle beach. The villa is extremely clean and well maintained, and is beautifully designed. We loved waking up each morning to the view of the jungle. Sumi and his family are so lovely, Sumi is so helpful and accommodating, he helped us organise day trips, drivers, etc!
We would definitely LOVE to return to elephant cottage next time we are in Sri Lanka! Thank-you Sumi and family for our wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: we had the bottom apartment which we really loved!

January 2013 we stayed in the wonderful downstairs apartment for 10 days and enjoyed it! The apartment is well equipped, tastefully decorated with a superb jungle view through the panorama windows. We even saw black monkeys jumping around the trees!.The apartment is situated in a very quit environment and the hosting family has been very helpful, friendly and kind. The morning terrace was a lovely shady place to have our breakfast.
It is very easy to get to the beach and the restaurants by Tuk Tuk for a small amount of money. When we needed a tuk tuk we just asked the family and they would call for it.The hosting family speak very well English (the grandfather is a former English teacher) and Sumi their son, works in the tourist office and has been of great help planning small trips. We had a great time and recommend this place to others that would like to stay in quite and beautiful surroundings. Pauline and Lars, Denmark.
