“Great lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2013

We had lunch here and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Our attendant was lovely. My husband had the tuna and loved it and I asked for spicey chicken and rice. This was not on the menu but my order was taken with no fuss. I thought the lunch prices were very good and the beer was lovely and cold. The restaurant is looking out over the beach and was clean and comfortable. We probably would have eaten here often during our four day stay but the owner introduced himself after we had eaten and was overly friendly. He talked a lot about himself kind of gave us the creeps.

“Fresh fish”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013

They expose their fresh fish so you can pick out your own. It is nice but quit expensive, but not more then any other place around.

It tasted good, but not amazing. The staff is friendly and some can speak English very well. The staff enjoys to turn the tv on when cricket is on. So if you are a cricket fan go en join the staff!

#great location, have to admit that the food was ok, but certainly had much better in other places. Great beer and good service.

“Great food, not family friendly...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

The food was great; as the norm for Unawatuna, you eat with tables on the sand in front of the surf, which is great; the surf itself is among the best we saw in the area. But I do have a couple of things against it...

-Beach hawkers regularly came up, luring unknowing tourists who were eating into buying massively overpriced goods that you can get even down the road for cheaper (i.e. Thambili/"King Coconut" for 300 rupees, when it cost me 30 in the shop down the street), while the restaurant staff just watch.

-The music was among the filthiest I've heard, and they kept it on and loud even with young kids present. I'm a DJ, so I know music, and this was just massively explicitive-laden, much more so than necessary, especially if there are kids around.

So if you're child-free, check it out (they had a great seafood selection, though there were only subtle differences between my eel and my son's Tuna steak). If you have kids, check out one of the many other places nearby!
