“The highlight stay of my Sri Lanka trip”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

This was by far the highlight and best stay of our trip to Sri Lanka in early August.

The suites are very tastefully furnished and all of them have a view of the beach, the sea and in the distance Galle Fort. All of them also have a jacuzzi that looks out at the scenic view. The resort is located on a semi-private beach and the sunrise + sunsets are definitely something to look out for.

Reny (GM), Bishan (F&B Manager) and their teams offer one of the best examples of Sri Lankan hospitality I have experienced, after touring the central and western parts of the country. From the greeting by name when you arrive, to their sincerity in making sure you are enjoying your holiday ("Just tell us what you need, and we will settle it for you"), to the effort that the staff take to remember your breakfast order preferences, and even the proactive and friendly (but non-intrusive) questions when you return to the resort or tanning on the beach, this is a team that's clearly taken their training on hospitality to heart.

Try their BBQ menu if you have the chance to OR make sure your stay includes a Saturday, where that's the dinner menu on offer. The half-board option provides breakfast and a 4 course dinner that in my opinion, is more than worth the price. They also provide pretty good wines at decent prices.

This is definitely a place I would come back to again, just to unwind, chill and perhaps celebrate a birthday or anniversary.

CoCo Bay is also a pretty good location to use as a base if you are planning to visit Galle Fort, Sea Turtle Hatchery, Unawatuna Beach, Whale + Dolphin watching at Mirissa and if you aren't against a 3 hour drive one way, you can even leave in the morning for Yala National Park.

Galle Fort is a short 10 minute Tuk-tuk ride away; the front desk will call one for you. Prices range between 400 - 500rs one way. Negotiate with the driver to pick you up at the same location and you can be assured that the driver will remember the way back.

Room Tip: All the rooms have seaviews, splurge on the Aqua Romance Suites to get a private pool.

2 Adults, 1 child aged 12 (Toby), 1 child aged 6 (Nancy), 1 child aged 3 (Rex). Arrived August 9th, 2013 and departed August 22nd, 2013.

A fabulous hotel comprising of 12 rooms. 3 rooms have private plunge pools, 2 suites, 2 adjoining rooms and 5 standard rooms. We took the 2 rooms which were adjoined via a door on the balcony. We stayed Half Board.

Every room has a sea view and the [semi] private beach is less than 20 yards from each balcony. The evening sunsets are amazing!!

The staff and management were very helpful, polite and extremely friendly (nothing was too much trouble). At every meal time the chef would ask how the meals were and if the children wanted any variations to the already substantial menu options.

The hotel grounds are very clean, safe and well maintained.

Within a 10 minute Tuk Tuk ride the Unawatuna beach offers a great beach and beach bars and makes a great day out. There is also Jungle Beach within a 5 minute Tuk Tuk ride or a 20 minute walk from the hotel. Again an excellent beach with golden sand, a beach bar and lots of great snorkeling.

Trips arranged by the Hotel were reasonably priced and well worth taking the time to do. We visited Yala National Park, Turtle Farms, Snake Farms, Blow Holes, Temples, Tea Plantations, River Safari and the historic surroundings of Galle and the Fort.

Airport transfers can be arranged by the Hotel, again reasonably priced and take about 2 hours from the International airport at Colombo.

I recommend this hotel very highly either as a family holiday or if travelling as a couple......It is well worth a trip.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent, all have a seaview.

The host had organised a beachside BBQ by the side of the table .

The table of 6 were celebrating a birthday , the appetiser was fresh and outstanding a mixture of salad and pasta , the selection of jumbo prawns, pork, fish, chicken and fillet steak was superbly cooked and served

The end of the table was the beach the backdrop was a grand looking boutique hotel , after numerous hotels of wine we finished with a round of champagne and an exquisite birthday cake

The ambience and service was outstanding

We are a family of 4 and Coco Bay was our first stop on our tour of Sri Lanka. We stayed two nights and wished we had stayed longer. From the moment we arrived we felt relaxed and treated as special guests by all the staff. The hotel is beautifully designed and extremely comfortable with lots of extras like fruit basket, choice of soaps and pillows. We had a very memorable meal with the best lobster we have ever had. The hotel has it's own beach and Unawatuna and Jungle Beaches a short tuk tuk journey away.
In addition a special thank you to Reny De Silva the manager who very kindly posted on a swimming costume, that I left on the balcony, to the next hotel.
This is a very special hotel. Thank you to all the staff who made this such a memorable visit

This place has really nice interior and spacious clean rooms close to Galle Fort yet on a private beach. It has a nice restaurant, cute bar and main pool. The food is good and decently priced, great tea in-room selection and the hand cut soap was a nice touch.

It would have been great save for a few minor details that seemed overlooked ... We stayed at one of the aqua romance room which had it's own dipping pool, this was great except the grill in the pool separating one big pool between the rooms was badly rusted which was quite off putting. We should have just got a regular room instead. The room floor was sticky even though I'm sure it was clean and the housekeeping cart was permanently parked outside our room. These little things made our experience just so-so when it could have in fact been fabulous. Shame.

This little gem of a hotel was an unexpected surprise, located through the internet. Less than a year old , it is charmingly located on a virtually private little beach looking over the bay towards Galle Fort. Everything, rooms, open-plan dining room, and of course deck chairs are virtually on the sea front, you have a sea view even from your bathroom! With very few rooms, you feel this is really your own place. The rooms are beautifully appointed with modern, luxurious fittings, comfortable beds and linen, and lovely touches like cookies and butter cake left on your coffee table in the room every afternoon. The food was of an excellent quality, and the staff from the manager to the roomboys were very attentive and offered a personal service. The hotel is small , and does not have a large area, so feels a little confined. Also the sea, being part of the main Galle bay is less inviting to swim in than some beaches. However the busy beach of Unawatuna, is five minutes away by tuk tuk, as is the Galle Fort in the other direction. One other issue some of my companions had was their jacuzzi, one in each large bathroom, leaked when filled, something I am sure they will fix. A really pleasant boutique hotel.

Room Tip: Most rooms face the sea, but they have a couple of " economy" rooms with no view, used mai...

We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for your constructive comments which are receiving our attention and will help us with our ongoing commitment towards service excellence. Please note the economy room is normally used only for the convenience of guests for early check in and late check out when the resort is full. This provides them the comfort of a small room without hanging around waiting for the booked normal room.

We had been due to stay at another hotel but its ongoing restorations (we had been told they would be finished) promoted a complaint and relocation to CoCo Bay. What a result that turned out to be!

Open only 7 months, CoCo Bay has already established itself as a favourite on Trip Advisor, and it is easy to see why. The room we were given is absolutely stunning, worthy of any hotel that advertises itself as 5 star. This is not that sort of place though - it is far more private, attentive and special, a real boutique experience.

The food is also first class. The range is varied enough to cover for most tastes and it is always well cooked and presented. My only slight gripe is the lack of kid-focused cuisine. I recommend splitting adult meals between them (our lads are 11 and 9) not because of cost but simply to reduce waste- portions are generous!

All elements of service are first class. The staff seem united in a common purpose: to offer the very best experience that they can. To a man, they are welcoming and friendly.

Highly recommended!
